Almost worth getting at that price to simply build it up enough to permanently fit on a direct drive turbo.
It was £90 a while ago lol
Funnily enough, I bought one at that price; it's permanently attached to my direct drive turbo in the loft :-)

There is a fire sale going on over at Chain Reaction for Shimano Hydraulic Road Brakes

    105 tier RS505 £99 minus £10 with code CLEAR2018 - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shim ... prod174939

    (Post mount only)

    Old Ultegra tier RS685 £125 minus £10 with CLEAR2018 or -£12.50 with British Cycling 10% code - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shim ... prod174751

Might be some flat mount stock, mostly post mount.

Just ordered myself a set of RS685s for a Hoy Alto Irpavi frame I bought with my Tesco Evans vouchers. New winter bike project coming along nicely :-)

I had convinced myself to wait for the new 105 R7020 brifters but that pricing is too good to miss.

Just beware that they appear to be set up Euro-style (right hand rear brake) so you'll need to swap cables and re-bleed if you want them the other way round (assuming front and rear calipers are interchangeable)

My frame has internal routing so I suspect swapping the cables/shifters round is the least of my problems....

I have a bleed kit and a little experience so hopefully all should go well.

Edit just to add - Post Mount the front and rear calipers are identical so it makes no difference.

I'm using flat mount for the first time with this build so I might have more fun there anyway!

With a tape measure/bit of string.

It's the length of the hose, hydraulic brakes are usually supplied pre-assembled - you could temporarily remove your brake cable if you are currently on cable disc brakes, that would be the best way.

Cheers for this ... I guess it is not case of buying the longest and trimming it down .. Will have to measure when I get home

One of my bikes (albeit calipers) has a european braking setup, i bought it second hand and didn't change it.

Tbh, I've never had a problem switching between bikes, I guess i just instinctively knew which brake was which.

Why don't you try the euro route, what could go wrong?

I did have a bike setup Euro for a good long while, it was never much of a problem, but I can tell you, it felt nice when I finally replaced the cables and swapped it to UK.

Blackstar, you certainly can buy the longest and trim down but you might also need to buy a new barb and olive to do it, and a bleed kit to clear any air bubbles from the system.

It's not the easiest job the first time you do it but if you do your own spannering you'll have to do it sooner or later...
  • Latest build is euro style. Rented a canyon in Mallorca, quickly got used to it and can boast of 'how my front brake is now correctly routed'.

I've been euro since my CR1 build, and yes the cables do bend in a happier manner :-)

i've never seen an issue with the left or right setup, you try a bike out before you set off if the brakes are the other way around you adjust same as you would when you hire a car abroad and have to shift with a different hand.

In theory, if you're careful you don't even need to bleed it if you are just shortening the hose...

Don't Shimano brakes come with that easy joint thing on the hoses, so in theory you can just unplug and swap them over? (Mine may have them, but I've never had to use them)

There is a fair bit of dotout kit with decent reductions on wiggle/crc.

Never heard of them before, but some interesting designs. Anyone have any feedback on them?

If you're going to do this, start by pumping the brake levers a few times to squeeze the pads together, before you detach the hose. When you've finished, force the pads apart, and hopefully any bubbles you did introduce will be pushed up into the reservoir.

  • Now forgive me if this has already been suggested, I've had and still have a bit of a head cold...

Want/need a pair of nice winter tyres like Conti 4 Seasons? Chuck a pair in basket at CRC or Wiggle, create a new account using a new e-mail address, use the £10 off a £50 basket code for "new customers" at respective site.

Means that for people without reward discounts at Wiggle, they could get a 700x28 pair of 4 Seasons for £57.10 and free delivery.

If you do the above having visited the store via Topcashback or Quidco, you might get lucky and get ~3% cashback (~£2) too... Potentially ~£55 for a pair instead of ~£67.

£31.49 before 10% BC discount seems pretty decent, especially for the 28mm version...

But is this the old model? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/cont ... -prod18794 for example, has a slightly different model name and is £35.27

Do 4 Season inflate wider than their spec size on modern wider rims, so ~31mm for 700x28s, just like GP4000S IIs?
