Got my own skillz/not afraid of bouncing down big hills

As for this weekend, I'm only free on Sunday, got yet more marching at school on Saturday in this 25 degree + heat, wearing a big blue coat thing and tartan trousers

Also planning a few days in Wales sometime during my school holz, camp there for 3-4 days and hit Cwm Cawrm (or whatever) Afan and Coed y Brenin.

Skills day... yeah, depends who with, where and what though really. I'd rather get some useful help about being less of a pussy on jumps, drops and steep roll-ins than anything else as that's probably more limiting to my riding at times :)

Last weekend ended up turning into a bit of a session but no more!! This weekend is for riding and not just any ride, a Saturday and a Sunday ride. I don't know where, I'm not too sure when but what I do know is sweat will be a pouring, wheels will be a turning and the bottom bracket will be a clicking. Who's with me?

We've got an offer of a guide to do Box hill and Ranmore common this weekend. Ranmore is other side of the A25 above the usual Surrey Hill area we've been so far, and Box is north east of Leith. Have been considering checking these out. Don't know these at all.

    Anyone interested?

If you're wanting to learn skills you either need to book a specific course with proper tuition or find somewhere that has a good mix of jumps and drops to just try yourself. That way you can push yourself, start off small and work up bigger. A 4X track would be good to learn jumps as they usually have nice tabletops that are safe to learn on.

I'd be up for Aston hill next weekend probably, just need to check if sat or sun is best for me first though.

What's at these two areas, Box and Ranmore?

Don't know, but this suggests there's singletrack to be found around the area. Coincidentally it's a skills course site too.

    http://www.astoundingadventures.co.uk/c ... etrack.php

From Richard2118 who is offering the guide...

"could show you the stuff i know on boxhill and ranmore, mostly natural, some crap climbs but well worth it plus my favorite area in the whole of the place on ranmore. generally its about a 3-4 hour loop but i can modify to suit."

Met up with him a long while back and he showed me some of the good stuff around Pitch and Winterfold. He's apparently out with Popstar today so will see what he thinks.

Proposal is Sunday for that. I understand that Box gets very busy though at weekends. I know it's a popular tourist spot.

Was going to SH anyway, so this sounds good.

    Can only do Sunday though.

Went today to SH with Plaisir and Richard ... the man knows his onions I have to tell you. After doing some long shifts and sleepless nights Plaisir just wasn't prepared mentally to stuff we were riding, had a couple of unpleasant crashes which just knocked his confidence off. But yeah, Dkenny ... Richard is a top man, the trails we did ride ... I have to say ... even some of them were more challenging -root wise- than trails in SWales, Plaisir did find Downhill easier to ride than some trails we did today.

Think some people may struggle with Richard's riding style, surprisingly the man is not into climbs so those are the only good news. Did ride so many drop offs, even -Deliverance- looked like a baby's milk to me, after stuff we did ride. So be prepared. Tonnes of jumps around. Having said all that, Box hill and Ranmore are the real deal, yeah baby! Bring all your pyjamas just in case, even though all jumps do have chicken runs ... so all riders could ride/roll off some sections whatever the skill.

It may sound a bit selfish from me, but as it has been dry for most of the week, and it will be fine weather this weekend ... there would be armies of riders, so cheekily would suggest to start after lunch. It looks as an early start is the time when you gonna hit majority of traffic on trails lol. Shame I end my shifts at 14.00, so the earliest for me could be 15.30. Anyway ... I am happy to ride in splitted groups of early and late groups if that suits.

    Ta.

I've never seen trails get quieter later in the day. The only time I've seen anywhere around there quiet is early (i.e. 8am start) unless you're there after 5pm or so because after lunch you get all the people out for an afternoon walk.

Anyway, if you guys are off to ride something more tech than usual, I'll probably do my own thing as I'm only just mending and I've got no urge to smash myself up further.

D'oh! England getting through to the next stage means they play Germany on Sunday at 3pm.

Early would be better then, preferably done before 3 :D

Yep, Sunday is a football day! Will have trails all of them to my own. Time to memorise and explore those trails Rich showed me. Hope England beat Fritz.

Ok thought this might help you guys decide if you want to come out this weekend.

I am going out with a copule of mates at about 9am and will be heading up to Boxhill and ranmore.

In terms of the trails on Boxhill this is natural singletrrack with some technical bits but all of this is walkable. I would say all of this is all abilities.
Some shitty climbs but only go at the speed of the group.

Ranmore much more technical, the main area is a trail that goes through an old quarry system with about 6 roll ins and some jumps , all of these are walkable or have chicken runs. the climb up is long but not very steep.

In terms of being busy, I generally never see anyone on these trails as they are very local knowledge.

I will promise that i will give a full guide to what is ahead to ensure there are no accidents, really do not want to sound like a twat but its easy for me when i know the trails so well and really do not want anyone to feel out of their depth or uncomfortable. secondly if you wanna stop shout i bloody hate ups !!!!!!!!!

The plan is to meet in a carpark at a place called parsonage square in Dorking( i can direct if anyone wants ) this is office parking and free.

thats the offer gents if your up for it PM me and we can go from there if not this weekend I am always about and keen to share the trails i know in the area.

Lastly come on England please no penalties...... :D

    England 1-0 Germany!

Not to confuse Sunday early group rides ... hope to get some riders for late lunch afternoon ride on Saturday. Will ride places Richard showed me, so plenty of technical and jumps. Give a shout if you fancy joining me, perhaps at 15.00 or so.

So from there, it'll be a short ride up Station Road -> Ranmore Road, over the railway and along a bit and just pops out into Ranmore Common?

    Looks simple enough.

Could pop into Denbies on the way back for a few bottles of wine :D

Hi Guys, not really posted in here before but was looking for some people to ride the London area at the weekend, so seems i've found the right thread!

I'm not sure which day I'd be riding yet (maybe even both), was planning on swinley but it seems you've got a ride organised for sunday so i may well come along for that, then maybe hit swinley later on to make a good day of it!

Also, anyone here ride epping in the evenings? Would be good to meet for an after work blast if anyone fancies it.

    Cheers,

    Lawrence

Could go that way but thats the easy route.......or the route if you start in dorking and then want to head to peaslake missing out BoxHill and Norbury park( where were going)

Going to go out end of Dorking and hIt boxhill first then come round to Ranmore via denbies ( so you should be able to get your wine about a third of the way round :D although may muck up the riding technique)

How long has everyone got ? the whole loop is about 4 hours but if people in need of less there are 3 chances to head back 1 about an hour in and then a second about 2 and then the last about 3 hours in. Atleast this way everyone can do some of the loop if you need.

Thel33ter you are a -RealMan- ... congratulations on powering into 1st place!

LarJones, for some reason of a magic ... we haven't been able to hit Epping forest. Think Bungalistic lives somewhere nearer that area and he did ride there. Swinley forest is a good place to play or practise on small/shortish trails.

But somehow majority of riders preffer either Surrey Hills or away trips (correct me if I am wrong). Didn't even manage to get a big group to Swinley. But SH in my eyes became good again after Richard showed some tasty stuff.
