  • Brilliant CD thanks. This weekend I'm at Forest of Dean (come along, you know you want to...?) But the weekend following I might try and Surrey Hills it up if you guys are too.

Not happening this weekend. Pivot bolt kept coming loose last weekend so seeing as I need to sort it out Saturday I'm taking the whole thing to little bits and giving everything a clean and a once over.

Anyone up for Caesars Camp, Saturday at 6. (pm obviously.) SandyHill has offered a guided tour. Finish before dark.

@BDJ, if I'm around happy to do it, takes a few minutes.

I've just realised that I've managed to pull the cable out of shifter (by the feel of it anyway, not 100% what's happened) so maybe it's better for me to take it to the shop and be done with it. Thanks though.

Ah - I can see it on the map now.

Do I take it that Pip's seat is the park bench I saw at a junction in that area, rather than the name of a track?

Maybemaybe. Planning to ride Sunday-only this weekend really, not sure I'll be able to get out on Saturday. Would definitely be good to get shown around somewhere new to me.

Swinleyish I believe. Probably not up to your new DH riding god style.

Bit more XC-ish, more climbing than Swinley but not savage steep. Some singletrack bits, odd little roll ins, narrow stuff. There are a couple of bits you can do a tiny bit of DH on, not much. Natural steep bits. Nice views.

Depends where you go as can loop out from Caesars, across the canal, over Fleet way round the pond (bit of northshore there!... well wooden footpath). Lots of MOD land stuff to mess about on all over the place really. Think Tunnel Hill but more spread out and bigger hills.

See, we do go into the forest and take photos of each other :D

Look at that *huge* air! ;)

Since then I've crashed twice, last one being big though failure I don't know what. Was just a simple case of diving down the same old trail I've done loads, and hit the rooty start, literally, with my chest. Off camber roots there and always a little tricky but think I went with too much speed, not paying attention and clipped the tree, slipped, OTB, and crash.

Resting up at the moment. Pain is okay if I'm not moving about much, but not sure on riding. It's also set off the damn back. As much pain at times there from when I broke it last year. Arse.

Pity you missed a fun one tonight. Some excellent slimy trails, too slippery for brakes so just roll and slide.
I felt crap when I went out, felt much better by the end, actually laughing at the bottom of some.
Snapped a spoke though, and does anyone sell 257mm black bladed spokes? Like hell they do.

  • I know this is mega early but I was wondering if there are any Surrey Hills plans afoot this weekend and if so which day? I've got to get in early with which day I want off at the weekend you see. Thanks.

I haven't got round to sourcing a flat spoke the right size, but have a few spare wheels, so should be ok for somewhere.

Taking it easy suits me fine, I think my fitness is probably very low right now, I haven't cycled up a hill for months!

As for a day that decision has been made for me now because I'm working Saturday so I'm only free Sunday. Hopefully that suits everyone else?

surrey hills bog index was very high last week, when I was there for the Evans Rideit.

Might be able to join you, but off to peak district for an MTB weekend next week, so may have duties at home...!

Sunday is the day you want. It's the only day where it *might* stop raining.

Yellow Alert from the met office every day through to end of Saturday pretty much all of south England.

So yeah - a little mud.

Discovered that Surrey Hills mud doesnt agree with Kenda Nevegals. Clogged up immediately, didnt really shed the mud, really draggy through the mud and despite that not much grip... They are great for dusty, sandy, gravelly, rooty surfaces - everything except mud it seems.

Now on order are some Geax Datura from on-one and some Mud-X to try.

Bloody hell! Oh well I'm sure we can find some trails not too badly effected by the wetness. Won't do our Strava times any good though...

I blame Strava for my last big crash. Not my inattention and incompetence of course.
  • The forecast has brightened up a lot so hopefully it'll be good for Surrey Hills Sunday. That's what I'm going to plan for. Still up for that DK?
