I'm up for that I think. Soft mud to land in. So long as there aren't any whopping roots sticking out aiming at my chest.

Optional different choice - A trip round Caesars Camp (over Aldershot way) being talked about, maybe today or tomorrow. Maybe get a view of the airshow from there too.

Not sure yet. I'll go with Surrey Hills by default.

Looks like Caesars for us around 10 if it fits in with Sandy Hill. Need to drop thel33ter off so need to finish 1 or earlier.

Anyone riding in the PM tomorrow? Won't be able to get up to surrey hills or wherever until about 12.30 probably. If everyone is doing an AM ride I'll just ride on the roads *gasp* for fitness *horror* near where I live. I haven't been on a trail for a very very long time - not since you last saw me bottle it at the top of every run Cooldad :)

Seems like the better option by all reports of the swamp conditions at Surrey Hills, and Caesars has a lot less traffic to churn it all up.

    Sun is out now too!
  • Hi everyone,

I've just started riding after getting back on a bike for my commute to the station (only 1.5 miles). I've just purchased a Merida Matts Pro-D and taken it for a couple of rides around the local area - Fleet pond and the tracks in the woods near DERA. I've done a couple of routes around there, but it's only about 10 miles unless I start doubling back on myself.

It would be great to get riding with other people, perhaps tackling some trail centres, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and hopefully be able to come and join you sometime in the near future (well, end of august).

Hello Hidden Hippo. I'm sure there'll be some local rides with the thread denizens happening more or less every weekend. The Facebook Group with the same name is handy too.

So - did Surrey Hills on Sunday. 36 hours (ish) of dry weather had dried it out somewhat, but there's still obviously plenty of slop around. The only truly dry trail was Barry Knows Best. I see that's had some more work done on it, the bit along the top which was comparatively gnarly is all smoothed out now. Bloomin' quick but kind of a shame in my opinion. Since there was an ambulance around there too I'm not sure if it's had the desired effect but I assume that was why they've done it. Removes one of the bits I was getting the hang of going fast on where it actually takes a bit of skill to do so. Anyway, fun was had by all.

Not sure if I'll be out tomorrow or Sunday. Most likely Sunday, hoping to fix a wheel tomorrow.
I'll check Facebook and post anything here.

Pretty sure most of the roads around SH are shut for the road race next weekend, so it might be a bit tricky to arrange. I'm probably going to Swinley on the 28th as I'll only have time for a reasonably short jaunt as well as the road closing factor.

So far me, Dan, Adrian - on for most likely SH tomorrow morning.

Next weekend will be a nightmare though probably empty trails if you can get to the hills some other way. Would have to approach from the south I think. Or get the train but they'll be packed (I'm going to Box to watch the race on the 28th and probably have to go via train). Anyway, booked up with things that weekend including the race. Booked up this weekend too.

Could be up for something in the week if weather is holding up, more so evenings if we're finally going to be able to take advantage of the still late light.

By the way, there's some (free?) Olympic festival thing going on at Denbies I think for the road race weekend and seen posts by the local shop dudes that looks like they're putting some stuff on to have some fun. Denbies is Ranmore/Dorking of course so same issue getting there. They do wine though ;)

    Early planning!

Saturday, 10am, Swinley. I have to stop relatively early is the reason for the time (so I can attend my birthday celebrations). SH is mostly shut for the 'lympics is the reason for the location.

Will be my last ride before going to see the Jedi with Dan!

Realistically if I'm saying 10am it's in the full knowledge we'll need 20 minutes to get everyone assembled and ready anyway. Plus can always meet latecomers out there somewhere if the bacon proves too tempting :)

Don't say that or DK will turn up on Sunday.

Can't make it for a ride either day anyway. Well, maybe something mid/late afternoon Sunday but not sure.

Do have to get to Dorking by 8am-ish Saturday though!
