All set. Just need to find out what arigold is up to.

Had a quick SH spin this afternoon. Drying out nicely, many dusty trails, fantastic weather! Bumped into a fair number of the usual crowd. Various groups out at different times, and all finished up in the car park at the same time.

Yeah no problem, if you can find the place feel free.
  • Anyone planning any trips over the long weekend? I know a couple of people who'd be game if you are!

Great ride Sunday by the way, good to see old and new faces. Fantastic weather, a mini epic loop round Leith, Holmbury / Peaslake and back.

Missed xmas pudding in the end, a bit too much for the day, but can show people that another day. Do a Winterfold/Pitch loop which takes it in. That's become one of my regular rides now.
  • I know it's early in the week but there looks like a Surrey Hills ride happening on Sat starting at Peaslake (see London Calling Facebook). Just thought I'd post here in case anyone isn't in the Facebook group.

Somewhat far ahead planning, but would anyone fancy a weekend trip somewhere the weekend of the 19th/20th May? Just been handed a free pass for the weekend, and they are so rare these days I want to make t he most of it! Thinking of Welsh Wales, north or south. Not fussed.

    Hi there!

My name is Daniel and I'm a spanish guy that arrived to London last month.

My skills on the bike are enduro/freeride/downhill and I'm just looking for any places here that I can practice that kind of rides... It could be perfect if I can join with someone here to start my rides in this country.

    Cheers!

Hi Daniel, welcome. Keep an eye on here, normally something arranged most weekends and sometimes during the week. How are you fixed for transport - best riding is the Surrey Hills or Swinley Forest.

Thanks for your so fast reply, at these moments I have to arrange using the train because I haven't here any other kind of transport.

I'm looking at the website tfl.gov.uk and at those two zones that you mention, are near those rail station.

Do you think that it's a good idea use the train to go there?

    Daniel, for trains from London:

Aston Hill - Marylebone (London) to Wendover. 3 mile ride to hills.

Surrey Hills - Either Waterloo or Victoria to Dorking, and a bit of a ride (a few miles) or London Bridge or victoria to Redhill, and change onto the Reading line, get off at gomshall for peaslake... or Waterloo to Guildford, change onto redhill line, again getting off at gomshall for peaslake.

Swinley - Waterloo to Martins Heron. Its about 2 miles to the lookout at Swinley.

And yes, trains are fine. Loads of people do it. Dont bother trying to book though. Its generally hopeless on these suburban lines. Just turn up and you should be fine.

Just for information, be warned about Sundays on the trains in the UK !

In this country a lot of maintenance happens on Sundays and trains are frequently cancelled or replaced by buses.

Should still be able to get where you want but just have to check and may have to wait longer for a train. A bus replacement is more of a problem as I guess you can't take a bike on them, not sure.

Could work well for me - don't really mind where. Or when, come to think of it, except I have no lights so daylight hours only.

    Frith Hill? (Tunnel Hill way)

Another option round there of course, though apparently the MOD are kicking up a fuss now about people riding there (even though they said it's okay as long as you don't get in the way).

Anyway, Swinley is fine. It owes me a chunk of my skin from the other day.
