  • Sunday at Swinley is good for me. I went there yesterday and found what looked like some newly built DH style trails which I've never seen before:

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater

    Anyone recognise this?is.

:) as previous poster said, the run starts by the reservoir but comes Back on yourself, I.e. the opposite direction to to telegraph mast, clubhouse etc. it's very loose and technical at the top with that small jump at the bottom. I've been riding it since last summer but could have been there a lot longer. Happy to join a ride and show you if you can't remember.

Conditions were near perfect today with only very small patches of standing water/mud remaining. That said, it'll probably p:ss it down in a week or so and the quagmire will return! The warden was on patrol also today, I didn't have my permit on me and he was ok with it. The price is increasing to £25 for 2012 which is still nothing if your riding it regularly.

Thanks Huey. I'm not out this weekend but maybe see you in the future. I liked this run, I found there were a few different choices at the top which you could link up with this bottom section.

Hello, im a starter. Its easy to ride in Dorking (Surrey Hills) ? I can take the bike by train (mounted) to there
    ?

PS: Im intending to buy a MTB tomorrow, so i probably will ride in the next weekend.

Can i go to this place: http://www.gorrick.com/swinley/ by train? If yes, where i get the train in London and where i want to drop?

You can get the train from Waterloo to Martin's Heron (Its on the Waterloo > Reading line), its 1.7miles from the station to the lookout: http://g.co/maps/qnu4g.

Surrey hills is harder terrain, you can ride from Dorking or Gomshall.

2ish will suit me, but what with the pouring rain and prediction its going to get heavier and colder, I am keeping an open mind on whether its such great idea to go out riding today. Depending on how bad it gets I might stay toasty warm indoors instead. Did manage to squeeze an hour in yesterday, which was great as its was really dry. Alas, that was yesterday.

Riding is out for me as well by the looks of it :-(.

Rain, car off the road and a van that's so full ready for tomorrow that I can't get the bike in.......

Another weekend written off. Got friends comming down from Suffolk next weekend as well so that's looking bad too.

If you're meeting at Peaslake get the train to Gomshall, from Dorking it's a nightmare!

The route from London is London Bridge to Redhill, Redhill to Gomshall but check out times as they are pretty infrequent on Sundays.
  • Does anyone want to do a Cwmcarn uplift day anytime soon?

In short, yes, I'm up for Cwmcarn any time from next week.

There's a facebook event for an uplift day on 18th April. You've been invited to it. This date seemed to be best for most people.

If the weather is okay does anyone fancy Aston Hill this Sunday?

I'd go from Victoria rather than London Bridge, or you can go Waterloo-Guildford-Gomshall (or Chilworth if coming from the West). Only a few miles ride from either.

For Aston Hill, get to Marylebone (In london) and pick up a train to Aylesbury. You get off at Wendover, and its a 3 mile ride to aston:

    Ty vm!

The other places (Dorking, Swinley and Surrey) are better or worst than Aston?

    Or they are very diferent?

All are paid, and i can get assistance, like a bike tecnical problem? Or i'll do by my own, and need to know the maps, trails, etc?

Aston is paid and waymarked. Its basically only some DH trails and a car park! Pretty good DH trails mind.
Swinley is XC and unmarked. In theory you pay £2 but people rarely do. There is a bike hire place if you get stuck for mechanical problems, a cafe, toilets etc. Swinley is best ridden the first time with others (like the London Calling Mob).
Surrey Hills (Dorking) is just a big area that is full of trails. Most people start at Peaslake (there is a bike shop there and a cake stop) and go from there. Its spread over quite a wide area, and only 1 trail is marked, so again, best to go with some others who know the area. Its also XC but has alot of great downhills too as the Surrey Hills are hilly.

    Hello,

I'm trying to buy a train ticket at Chiltern Rails, and says i can't book my seat (i'm choosing bike booking to). When they says this, it's really because the cycle transports are full? I mean, i really can't get my bike? Or i can give a shot and go to the station with the bike?

If i can't go to Aston, how can i go to chicksands by train? Ty
  • benpinnick
    benpinnick Posts: 4,148
its because the train companies are incapable of running a proper service, and so you cant book _any_ seat on that train. Id just rock up and see how you go. I am sure you'll be fine.

Thats right. If you're going at the weekend make sure you get off-peak, or maybe even super off-peak tickets. They will be loads cheaper.
