Not up for a 46k burn and I have no stamina anyway, so 9.30 casual ride and bit of a muck around Labyrinth and the like sounds good to me.
  • i come passed/pretty near the airport out there on the m4

ok cool, that would be nice, probaly be PM is better, i can get to uxbridge tube station easy along a 40/m40 . or hatton cross tube station near airport.

otherwise I m in ealing if you go through central london.

or if you think of any where else you cross through

Did Swin'ers very early this morning, actually starting to dry out and the trail fairies have been doing some nice maintenance, very impressed. If it wasnt for going flip-side-up-side-down in labrynth it would of been a perfect ride, fortunately I landed on my head and shoulder in the soft mush to the side... could of been worse, theres a few very pointy branches and solid looking trunks round there.

Have fun for those going Sun mornin, I think I'll be in the running shoes till the shoulder stops screaming at me.

Once upon a time my bike landed on my face in Labirynth. Was a bit scratched and bleeding, I blame icy trails on that day. Still ace riding with berms and tabletops down there.

P.S. There's a Gorrick race in Crowthorne woods tomorrow so could affect areas like Corkscrew.

Oh and post on MTBB forums mentioned there are signs up in Swinley warning of closure on some trails for maintenance, but apparently they're not closed yet.

Just a humble 18k run for us. Though did bump into the hardcore XC guys a few times :D

Good bit of sessioning the g(k)narl. Think I got a wheel or two just about off the ground on occasion.
  • Well that was fun
15 started then there where 13 after a bit of an injury.
After lunch break and about 20Km we were 11. Then 10... etc
After the 25th km, only 3 remain to complete and other 22km just for the fun of it :)

Now I need to go and walk the dog for about 1 hour.
Not sure my legs are ready for it yet. In an other 5 minutes or so... maybe.

Move finished and shoulder feeling a bit better, but still can't lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee. Good thing thel33ter was there to help, he did a real mans share - popstar would have been proud. I did little girl loads.
Have finally bought some bling for my bike, a new set of wheels so roll on next weekend.

I really think Thel33ter deserves trip to Cwmcarn. It would be very wrong not too reward his hard and genuine work. Even then, it's not about how hard, but the effort itself.

We lazy warriors could use uplift on the day while Thel33ter could satisfy his cravings and pedal all the way up. Quality climb. Think actually, I would like to join him. £3.50 will get me awesome succulent BigMac , bin uplift services Popstar says.

  • I think we need to do something special...I believe its just been a year since our first big group ride.

and our incapability to cycle up a hill

Looks like many are tempted by cwmcarn around 20th.

Just for info - was out today and the trails were riding fantastically!! Fast and tacky :D Anyway, back to the point - tank traps and the bit before it (with the bridge, who's name escapes me) are close from Thurs to Sun this week for maintenance...

    Stickler.

Hopefully they are making something to drain the bombholes.

Bombholes? I assume you mean root holes on that trail because otherwise they're teeeeeeny bombs

Meh, same thing. They are bombholes by Swinley's standard.

Those signs were up last Sunday morning and there had already been some obvious maintenance to the 'berms' round stickler but the 'bombholes' were still stagnating ponds.

Can only guess they were out last week and plan to be out Thurs-Sun again this week (and probably next week).

Who does the trail work at Swinley? Is there somewhere we can go for further info, or even offer to help out?

You need to be a member of either Gorrick or Berks On Bikes. If you're a random punter you can't turn up with a shovel and help. I understand that is the rule but I think it's a bit short sighted because I have no urge to join a formal bike club (our loose affiliation is fine) but would be happy to help put something right that I ride.

I believe that's the case. There's also an attitude of you need to join them to be shown the trails, at least going by the arguments on threads about Swinley maps.

Problem I have with formal clubs is they like you to wear their lyrca, they cost money, and they're a bit too serious for me. Think BoB likes to assess your skills before they let you in the club too.

I've ridden with some guys from BoB. Not their super duper racy types though. Overall they are a pretty nice bunch, but actually take it semi-seriously.

    Guys,

Some of the Swinley regulars will be organising a Tunnel Hill pootle - probably on the 20th Feb. I think CD and thel33ter ride there regularly.

Is anyone interested in doing this? I think Tunnel Hill (and Porridge Pot) is a cross between swinley and surrey hills so it will be something a bit different.

Let me know if you fancy it.

    cheers

    Maj
