I've been after some Zipp bars for a while.

    They are freakin' awesome!

Very impressed with the stem too.

in what way are they 'awesome'...??

Stiffer and more comfortable than what they replaced.

    Good value

    Look good too.
  • Rake, you'll note from my comment - bargain (probably) that I am actually quite aware that 160 grams is relatively insignificant.

However, I'm quite happy with it, so ner ner ner.

I ordered the bars and stem at 20.11 on 11.12.09 (friday) when stock levels indicated that there were "lots" available. I only realised there was a problem from reading this forum, and called PX on Tuesday. They apologised about the "misunderstanding" and said someone would be in touch. So far so nothing, despite an e-mail from me. They appear to blame the stock pickers for choosing who would get what, and I feel that I have paid £100 to be entered into a lottery for these goods and that ain't what I understood as a sale. I'm pained by this, as I've got a pro carbon SL and have bought upgrades through PX with no problem. Just to add insult to injury, the training holiday in Spain next month was booked with...you've guessed, Globespan!

Personally I believe that showing your "stock levels" is pointless unless it's updated everytime a sale is made.

Probikekit in my experience, chance the stock number as soon as a sale is a made. There's always a chance that when they are showing a stock level of "1" you add the item to your basket the same time as somebody else, but that's going to be a rare occurrence.
  • Planet X stock system is supposed to be "real time", but they told me it crashed over the weekend, hence all of these issues. But as it goes, I'm happy with the saddle and brakes, and I'll change my bars and stem in the future...

I'm glad I decided to order mine on Friday morning  Although it was far from a necessary purchase.

  • I work as manager for Kates Skates. The whole stock thing is a pain in the arse. We put generally in stock, not quantities. People ring up to ask if you have something in, but, by the time youve spoke to them someone else may have bought it online and they are then left without. We offer 10% off if thats the case. I think this thread may have caught PX on the hop with the amount of orders they appeared to have for the Zipp stuff.

Just ordered the Ultralight CNC brakeset... They wouldn't do a deal with the Ti Sticks QR's, so I had to buy them, too
    Happy Birthday to me... :D

  • I couldn't help myself. Not of PX though. Ordered a QRing from Pro Bike Kit

    http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=A0757

If you order before Christmas put in the code XMAS to get a 10% discount. I only bought it for bling factor.

You do realise that is a TT chainset?

Obviously it can be used on any bike but that's a monster big ring!
  • Thats the size of the FSA ring thats on my chainset at the moment! Gonna look sweet though.

    What did they replace?

They are definitely not stiff bars, the stem is rather stiff though. You must have had something really flexy before.

I suppose they are quite stiff for lightweight wing sectioned 26mm bars, but they are no where near as stiff as my 31.8mm round section Rotundo Pros.

Those are the rings I just put on my bike. But in 53-39 instead of 54.

Not sure if it's a placebo effect or not, but I really like them. Gives me a much smoother pedal stroke. Oddly enough - it feels more 'circular' now than before. Preliminary testing has shown some increase in power numbers with it also (but only a small increase so far). It's only been a week.

I may try it on a different setting to see if it significantly changes things for me.

    No.

They are rather noticeably lighter in the hand than the Sram Red ones though...
  • Nap D - what's the difference between the CNC and forged Ultralight brakes except for 20g and £50?? :?

You don't get the free skewers with the £50 brakes. :P

Nap D - do those brakes have the little centring allen key screw like Shimano brakes do, to allow easy lateral movement of the pads if using slightly different wheels? Or is that a spanner on the middle nut job?

I'd be surprised if Nap knows what the braking is like yet, I wouldn't be riding in this weather on a blinged up carbon bike
I'm interested to know the answer too though, nice looking kit and good VFM considering the outlay vs weight saving.

    Indeed.

I'm struggling to see how a single pivot caliper can be an 'improvement' over a double - regardless of the weight saving.....
