Do you reckon the ultra light are any better than the "forged" in performance terms ( bling different issue! ) as I'm really trying to curb my spending and failing really really badly?!

got the bars and stem on ..will post pic as soon as I can get round to it.

Great club in and around the Warrington area.
  • I went for the forged and the saddle to keep it the same price as the bars/stem. Can't imagine a massive difference, but I'll know tomorrow at a guess. I'm reluctant to do any weight saving that costs much more than £1 per gram, so at £50 for an extra 20 grams, it's not happening for me!

Boooo, I just mailed them earlier, and they just called to confirm I have missed out also :(

That would have been my first ever Planet X order.

Oh well, these things happen I guess.

Fairly gutted, as I was looking forward to new shiiny toys, but then I guess I didn't actually 'need' them, and I do actually have a new pair of bars for my current bike I am yet to fit, so I am trying to be a glass half full bloke and think I have saved £100 :?

I've just had an email and a call from Planet-X too - no Zip bars or stem for me. Pretty gutted I must say - it was my first order from them as well so not a great beginning to a customer relationship.

When did you put the order in?

Last Friday evening at half past midnight - it was still showing lots of stock of the stems and about 8 of the bars I think.

I guess you were just unlucky. I ordered my bars on Friday morning and they came on Monday. I guess the stock update is slow, but to take til now to ring you and tell you about their lack of stock is poor - they would have known on monday what their stock levels were.

I've been after some Zipp bars for a while.

    They are freakin' awesome!

Very impressed with the stem too.

I have had two nice apologetic emails and a phone call now - but this was only after I chased them to find out what was going on. I guess the stock must have run out between your order on Friday and mine (logic would suggest).

Well enjoy your bars and I hope I'll manage to get another bargain some other time. I'm now thinking about a Chris King Bottom Bracket for my bike instead .... Thinking that is, haven't decided.

I have a pair of each - they're identical in design, it's just a matter of titanium rather than steel hardware and the forging vs CNCing of the caliper arms. No reason not to think they're identical in performance.
  • The bars and stems were also being sold as part of the weight savers pack so I think people could have bought them as part of the pack without it affecting the automatic stock count?

I like the CNC brakes, but prefer the Ti Stick QR's.
I just mailed them to see if they'll do a deal on those instead....
    I can but ask

Shame the Red CNC are out of stock!

Me too but I rang them. They wouldn't.

They even changed some of the details on the site because I pointed out a discrepancy...

I concur with your feelings Scottie P - I tried to order mine Friday evening, when both were showing 'lots'

I would have thought the error in stock level would have been spotted first thing Monday, and the priority then would have been to contact the people who had missed out to inform them - just needs a quick fairly generic copy and paste e-mail really.
I was trying to be a good customer and not hassle them, so waited until yesterday to mail them, and only then had a phone call telling me that there was no stock.

Not the best start by any stretch of the imagination, and I had been toying with the idea of buying a pair of SL's off them next year for me and my gf.

I have to be honest it has altered my previously flawless image of Planet X, as I know their bikes and customer service invariably get raved about on here, which is rather a shame I feel.

EDIT: Just to add I had an apologetic e-mail waiting for me this morning, so I was incorrect to think that my e-mail prompted the call to me yesterday. The e-mail said they didn't know if I had been lucky or not, but if not I should be getting a call shortly.

I imagine from that I must have been around the cut off point.

Thanks Squillion, a generous offer, and surely someone must take you up on this?!
I imagine you could flog them for some serious cash on ebay, so very decent of you to offer them up to forum members at cost.

Alas I needed 42cm bars, and just a 110mm stem that will only take 26mm bars seems a bit pointless on it's own, although the idea had occurred to me I must say.

EDIT: Have just seen some on ebay, one pair of 44cm bars and 2 stems, a pair will set you back a bargain £175.

    Cheers

  • My brakes and saddle just arrived and have been fitted - saddle is 148 grams, brakes 227grams. Brakes work perfectly with new Ultegra 6700 shifters too, despite shimano guff about cable pull ratios!

So I've saved 160 grams for £100. Bargain (probably!).

You could dump 160 more if you bought this kit too.
