I think I am going to buy some of that Fizik Dual Tape.

I've got some Red/black stuff on my P-X, and it looks awful but feel really nice. I reckon only grey/black would look any good.

Well I hope you lot are all proud of yourselves!

Because of this thread I've just gone and ordered a stem and handlebar combo, could not resist this offer, especially after seeing the pics above

Oh yeh, ordered one of these as well

    CLPXHSEEBL.jpg

A serious question - do I need any fancy kind of torque wrench so I don't over tighten these puppies?

    Cheers

I've been thinking of getting new bars for a while and have just pulled the trigger on the Zipp bars and stem too - they're nearly all gone now.

Now to order some new bar tape .... and I think it's also time for new cables (my current ones are 5 years old and have done about 5,000km).

Hoping for slight better ride comfort via the Zipp bars on my alloy frame (cheapo alloy bars and stem currently).

  • I finally went out on mine. Think they're great. Wide enough for me and I personally love the drop down to the brakes, gives a comfy riding position. Really impressed, the selle italia saddle I got from Planet X is awsome too. Anyone have any thoughts on the pair of carbon wheels they are selling?

Seems like a good deal and they look sweet.

The more I ride them the more I'm impressed with the bars and stem. Really comfy and I'm getting more used to that drop down to the hoods...

Those wheels are great race wheels for the mahunnie.

I've just bought a 110mm stem, they weren't showing as available when I bought the 120mm last week. I'll just return the 120mm stem and get a refund.
They are lovely bits of kit, can't wait to fit it to my carbon bike.

I usually measure from centre of the steerer clamp (the bolt is the centre) to the centre of the handlebar clamp.
  • Dammit, had to do it at that price. Thought my old bars were 44, but deda 44 are actually 42 c-to-c, same as the zipps! hoorah...more unnecessary spending, but it is xmas...
  • ah sod it. I put the pics on facebook of my bike and she noticed the saddle was white and not black. BUSTED. never mind, after the deposit for the single blokes flat and rent ill have £50 a week left to spend at planet x so long as I dont eat.

I was about to get stem/bar..

Then realised I wasn't a sheep, and that I didn't fancy the outdated 2.6 clamp.

I have a Garmin too, and the taper doesn't massively appeal. Sense prevails, when confornted with compulsion...

I don't think I'd buy bars unless I'd had my hands on them first. Bit like shoes / helmets, you need to try them on! Same as saddles too.

Outdated? try telling that to the World Champion and his (old) team, and the Garmin team as well according to http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/pro-bike-cadel-evans-ridley-helium-17288

"Team bars and stems are provided by Oval Concepts, a company better known for its time trial and triathlon cockpit components and unique Jetstream forks. Evans' bits are slightly unusual in that the handlebar clamp diameter is 26.0mm rather than the oversized 31.8mm that has fast become the norm industry-wide. The larger diameter isn't necessary according to Oval's Morgan Nicol, who insists it came about mostly because other companies had difficulties making a bar that was strong and light enough with the standard size. Regardless, the smaller diameter components are slightly lighter and so the entire Silence-Lotto team (as well as the Slipstream-Chipotle boys) are outfitted as such."
  • Isn't a 26mm clamp going to be lighter? Not that the weight saved would make any difference to me or most other people.

No because the hole is smaller where you put the bars, therefore there is less air.

    Best of luck!

I am going to tell my toher half tonight, but I am stressing that it is an investment and for the future - the future being a full carbon roadbike :D
Oh and also I am wading in with the full RRP, and then what I actually paid.

SS - when did you place your order please?

And did you get a despatch e-mail?

    Cheers

She should understand that tactic as it's what women do when they spend a lot of money on something we would feel is unnecessary.
