Took the plunge and bought them - hey for £100 it is great value (even if its only 26mm clamp!)

About 365g for the whole setup.

That should take around a 150/200g of my current porky alu set up. And it is stiffer, and it does look better (not that it matters :))

My 3T Team stem and Pro Rotundo bars weigh less than that, and only cost £80, and are pretty stiff

Sorry, I meant to say 345g! I had a look at the 3T stem + bars combo a while ago and it came up to 375g for my size. Not bad though for an alu set up :)

Also you only have a 40cm bar haven’t you? :)

Aye, I used to use 44cm bars, because I thought my shoulders were wide though. If they'd had 38 or 40cm bars, I would have gone for the Zipps. Although, to be totally honest, apart from the price, they didn't suit me at all, wrong shape (I like the traditional shape), not OS, portly (but stiff) stem.

I could do with a matching 3T seatpost really, rather than a zipp bar/stem combo

Interesting, I have never properly measured myself until you said that – I am a 43cm from shoulder to shoulder!

I wanted an ergo shape so that’s ok with me. To be honest if I had your set up I wouldn’t have gone for it as it is already quite stiff and it’s not too heavy.

The stem is a bit on the heavy side – heavier that my current one, an Alpha Q Prolite that only weighs around 110g. That will go to my winter/commuter hack along with my current bars (which weigh nearly 360g!)

Well, I just remembered that I wanted a shorter stem for the Litespeed so I thought I'd ring Planet X to see if it was too late to change.

I rang the main number, they answered straight away and the lad on the other end of the line took my details and said that someone would see if they could dig it out and change it before dispatch, he siad someone would contact me later.

About 5 minutes later someone rang me back saying they'd sorted it.

A big NapD Shout Out to Planet X customer service!

  • Should start a customer service thread to praise or name and shame companies. Could be interesting.

  • Ok, so, divorce may be on the cards, but how good is this setup? and will it cope with my now 190lb pushing on it?

Stem and bars are the size I need and its too much of a good deal to miss out on...

Hopefully they will cope with your 190lb or my 200 will definitely struggle!

That is brilliant as the shorter stem is more expensive and you got away with it!

I call them this evening as I had put my addy wrong and the guy I spoke too kept referring to my address as college!!! Hehehhe, even when I told him I worked there!!! hehehe, brilliant, must have thought, bloody foreign students :)

  • So whats the diff between OS ans 26? only ever used OS

    26 is 26mm diameter clamp.

    OS is 31.6mm diameter.

Supposedy OS makes aluminium bars stiffer.
  • The old bars I had were os but they taper down just past the stem either side and were thinner than the 26mm Zipps. OS doesn't always mean the bars are thicker for the length of the entire bars. (I hope that makes sense?)

  • I understood the pysical difference, I was just wanting to know the difference in performance!

Anyone got any pics of these yet?

Before I also splashed the cash on something I don't really, really need but couldn't resist I checked out the Zipp website and they state the measurement as outside :
    Sizes (out-out) 40, 42, 44, 46cm
    http://www.zipp.com/bars/contour-sl-bar#
and having measured my own bars on various bikes I find I am running 42 and 44 c-c.
So, no more than a 44 and I think closer to 43 would be ideal for me - I know the 44cm bars are maybe a touch wide but 42 is verging on narrow for my liking.

    But is that correct ?
Anyone got these bars yet and can verify what the actual measurement is (C-C) ?

I got mine too. Absolutely brilliant quality.

By the way they now have got the 110mm stem and 42cm bars at the same price.

Is there any benefit over the alu stuff? Is it cosmetic?
Guess the weight saved is minimal?

Just wondering whether they are worth anything over the alu double butted bars on my bike, and the Alpha Q alu stem?? Know nowt about this sort of stuff...

The benefits are apparently very marginal, but the visual appearance is way too cool. Furthermore, almost everybody knows that they're expensive (if you pay the MSRP, that is). That's why I ordered the stem & bars.
