    Well done Cadel.... Plenty of people will be eating humble pie. :D

    Ha Ha Ha,
    It's true. Ever since I trod on his dog he's stopped returning my calls.....

    Mind you, my full quote was, "I'm not a fan of Evans but you have to admire that ride."

    What I meant was....(Insert lengthy explaination here)

    I just didn't realise you Aussies were so touchy... :lol:

    No worries mate, just taking the piss. Agree with all you've said. :wink:

    I would suggest the only dull worlds we've had in the last few seasons was 2002 at Zolder, everybody knew what was going to happen. But then we got to see Cipo in the Rainbow Jersey.
    It's one thing knowing what is going to happen, quite another to execute it to perfection as Cipollini did. Not the most exciting race ever, but a commanding performance by the Italian team that day.

    + Several sir, plus several.

    Best race since Roubaix for me...

    Indeed, Roubaix, Milan San Remo and this have all floated my boat this season...

    Too right - each of those one dayers have had a tremendous final 30 mins or so.

    I also really enjoyed the last hour of the Worlds TT - awesome Cancellara action and some edge of the seat drama with Wiggins closing in on Tony Martin before the mechanical fairy stepped in.

    Indeed. Watching the teamwork is impressive and the Cipollini leads from the front. See for yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk5Rtb1FvJw

    So we can all sing along, here's the first verse:

    Australians all let us rejoice,
    For we are young and free;
    We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
    Our home is girt by sea;
    Our land abounds in Nature's gifts
    Of beauty rich and rare;
    In history's page, let every stage
    Advance Australia fair!
    In joyful strains then let us sing,
    "Advance Australia fair!"

    "Girt" isn't a word you see much these days....

    They did show the podium ceremony. I watched Pat McQuaid present the medals on 410 on Sky so I don't know what you are all on about.

    "girt. A ship is girt when it is moored with two anchors out with both cables hauled in so taut that they prevent the ship swinging to wind or tide. The cables as they grow out tautly to the anchors catch the ship's forefoot as it attempts to swing and prevent any such movement. It is a situation easily corrected by veering one of the cables slightly."

    I don't know what you guys get up to in Bristol...... :D

    Alternative lyrics:

    Congratulations to Cadel
    At last he won a race;
    The stress, relief and all the rest
    Were etched upon his face;
    Acceleration was the key
    As fast as he could get;
    A well-deserved and valiant ride
    Just don't stand on his pet.....

    Must say that the racing on Sunday was great and really enjoyed it.
    I was glad to not see the end ceremony as Cadel under emotional pressure seems to go a bit Lady Ga Ga so was a relief to go to Ladies Hand Ball/ Netball, LeCross or whatever that sport was (It must be big event for the advertisers cos we went straight there with no hesitation).
    A mate of mine seems to think that some Quacks reckon that Cadel maybe a bit Autistic??
    Hence his emotional problems. I know Cadel is Cadel but it explains a few things.

    Another wierd thing is how close is Verona to Varese to Mendrisio. Lucky swines! I went to the last Verona Worlds and it was a stag dooo! Fantastic weekend. Loved it, all except for the Ryan Air Pilot who announced that coming in to land (not that far off the Mountain Peaks of the Alps) that they couldn't find the runway and then at about 300ft banked around to head us back into the direction of the Alps :shock: .
    He did bank round again thankfully missing the biggest lumps. Oh, I love the Irish!! (including Mr Kelly). It's the humour!! :wink:

    Watching it again via the BBC iplayer, it's interesting to see Rodriguez jump and use the central reservation to get away, and then Evans and Kolobnev go with him. But they are caught by others, only for the same three to keep going. In other words, it was a quite a stroke of luck to get away. See for yourself at 37mins on the BBC site.

    Should be required viewing for the GB team before next year's Worlds!

    Is this meant to be an examaple of a good lead out train?! It is ok but not exactly special by any means. Two guys pulling for him and not even stringing out the bunch. Cav's team are far more impressive and so were Fassa. Also, more than half the field are taken out from the race.

    Bunch sprint in the Worlds.

    I watched it, earlier.
    Also interesting to see Matti Breschel working for Cancellara on the last lap, but, to no avail.
    First he does all the work, on the final climb, to try and bring back the leading 3, then he sits on Cunego's wheel, after Canc and Samu have flown the coop.

    Leadout trains at the worlds? Don't care how flat Oz is. Yesterday showed Team GB won't be much in evidence, come the final lap. They aren't Italy.

    Just how flat is the Melbourne course? It appears to have only 1 climb instead of 2, but the blurb on the official website says:

    "After Barwon Blvd becomes Challambra Crescent it begins to approach its steepest point, averaging out at around 8% gradient, peaking at 13%. The sprinters and non-climbers should not have too much difficulty passing over this climb for the early laps but as the race gets older, expect this climb to split the field considerably."

    We could see another situation like yesterday where a number of strong Italians and Spaniards try to go from 6 or 7 laps out. That'll put the Brits under pressure for a long time, weakening any chance of keeping it together for Cav.

    Hopefully the Brits will have had a chance to parctise riding as a lead out train by being part of the Sky team with EBH. Say what you like about the proposed team but Brailsford is good at working on the details. We could be in a position where the bulk of the GB team are riding for one pro tour squad - although the main man will be in another which could be awkward! :?
  • I think Cavendish win without a clean leadout train.

  • i think cav is capable of winning without a lead out as he has proved before, but i can't see the likes of spain italy and cancellara willing to let it end up a bunch that contains cav and i am not sure the gb team will have as many pure power house riders to drag cav back up if he gets gropped like colombia have

    Couldn't be more happier than to see Evans get the jersey. He thoroughly deserves it! Just hope the curse doesn;t take hold.

    Wiggins, Millar, Hammond, Thomas? I'm sure that those four would be able to do something on a flattish course, assuming Wiggins and/or Millar aren't exhausted from the TT.
