If you think that's a bad idea you should try it with Kojaks!

Back on topic, replaced my shimano cables with Jagwire, much smoother. (improvement nothing to do with cutting the outers nicely with a Dremel obvs).

Heh and for me the underside of my unclipping pedal is already scuffed silver - after less than a week.

After putting 400 miles into the wheels on the Kaffenback I noticed a few loose spokes on the rear so dropped it into the LBS for them to tension the wheel. Got the wheel back today and put the disc and cassette back on (twice)

retired the near 20yr old original chain on the retro road bike shiney new kmc in place, no more squeaky squeaky chain on club rides :D sorted the brake cabling and finally taped the bars up!

new generous 350mm scott seatpost and giving this selle itallia saddle another go, i do declare that my club/winter road bike is complete as i'm probably going to buy n+1 before attempting to upgrade the current 7xshimano downtube shifters and chain/wheelset..

What pedals did you go for. I'm also thinking of switching and was just going to go for the R540s but have read they keep turning so they are the wrong way around.

    On a Brompton?

I've got them on the station hack as a 700c but these are a different kettle of fish. Still, as usual, my secret tyre lever did the job easily; handle of a silver spoon from the dining room sideboard. Comes out in emergencies when the Mrs isn't about and mounts difficult tyres in seconds.

Keep having to tighten headset every ride - chaps on here with carbon forks have thoughts?

I will be taking it into evans to be sure but given I picked it up on tuesday I'd hope that wasn't the case, its more the stem is not grasping the carbon steerer well enough.

This is on the new bike I believe. Now confirmed.
What sort of head set does it have? My Kinesis has a strange headset with taper roller bearings and I had to readjust mine a few times after initial fitting. I also fitted taper rollers on a motorbike a few years back and they seemed to settle in a bit then needed readjusting. Could be that, once they have settled they should be fine.
Or it could be something completely different. Pop back to the shop and find a grease monkey that knows what they are doing.
Edited as you have posted since.
You should be able to clamp onto a carbon steerer tight enough without any issues. I think as they are a new range they should be very interested in any feedback and problems and sort it properly for you.

Don't take it back to Evans. It'll be loose because they are USELESS and didn't install it properly the first time. Go to a proper a LBS and have it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing!

yep on a Brommie - it did hurt, actually to be fair it was Scw marathon - the non-plus variety. talc powder then the old squeeze the tube into the rim trick and then grit my teeth, ignore the pain, and shove it over with the thumbs.

Swapped my original Bontrager 23c tyres for GP4000s (which are noticeably lighter) on the Madone, sorted out the cable guide on the same (the front derailleir cable was not seated properly) and gave the bike a damn good clean in prep for a >80 mile ride tomorrow. Not sure where I'm going to go, but Ashbourne may be the far point out.

Doesn't make up for the weight disadvantage of having a triple!

Given that you mentioned somewhere else that it's a carbon steerer, I would do the following:
    1. Remove stem top cap
    2. Remove self expanding bung inside the steerer (ie the thing that does the same job as a star-fangled nut)
    3. Clean bung and inside of steerer
    4. Add assembly paste, replace bung and tighten
    5. Remove stem and clean inside of stem and outside of steerer
    6. Reassemble with assembly paste
    7. Tighten everything up in the normal order

For this to happen, both the bung and stem must be slipping, so make sure you put the bung back in at a sensible depth; it may be right at the top of the steerer by now, and you really want it a bit further down.

If that doesn't work (and it should) I would take it back and complain.
    Pannier, 120rpm.
  • Hub service on the winter rear wheel, it was in a terrible state. Free hub barely moved and the bearings were rusted to chuff. Managed to get it mostly OK, the races are pretty bad, though. Need to use it until the driver who rear-ended me pays to replace my beautiful, but rather broken summer wheel.

I'm not happy having to use that one in the summer.

Fitted my new SPD SL pedals to the bike today. Embarrassingly I always thought they went the opposite way round to the way they do  (yes I am sure I've fitted them correctly).

In the grand scheme of my fatbastardness it doesn't really count for much  (besides which the Dura ace triple weighs next to nothing!)

straightened the bars on my TT bike last night after my crash on it last week (blacked out at hillingdon went off the track and into the bushes).

Removed the 808s from their workstand (my Look), and took the cassette off. Ready to be sold on thursday and to be replaced with some lightweight clinchers (Mavic R-Sys Slrs).

Just need to regrease the bearings on my pedals on the commuter now and drop the stem on my Look if i can work out how

Chain snapped climbing this barsteward on the (long) way home: http://veloviewer.com/Segment/2479469

It had been jumpy for a couple of days, probably should have swapped it out by now, I recon it's done 1500 miles or so.

Somehow it managed to pull the front mech down, so there I am, dripping with sweat half way up fixing the burger in 30C heat. Then some guy out running comes up to where I am, runs back down and repeats, the whole time I'm fixing the damn thing. Ended up doing it wrong and rubbing in too much so sorted it once I got back home after far fewer miles than I'd planned.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
  • A fine piece of Dad-gineering today. The bit of plastic that connected the rope of the kids' swing to the frame broke. After a bit of thought, I decided that plastic bushings were a bit low-grade...

At that point, I noticed, sitting on the windowsill of the garage, the Token bottom bracket cups that I removed from the Equilibrium a few months back. A quick check, and yes they were big enough for the rope and the hanger bolt. A few seconds with an angle-grinder later and the swing is now "pro-grade", and the kids have been warned that if they swing too fast, they may arrive in September having missed the summer holidays.
