The line wouldn't hook under the shifters, so something had to stop the bike from sliding off.
Might leave them there for a more aero position :)

First ride on the Conti GP tyres :? not a very smooth experience I have to say, felt like pogo again, so I dropped a few psi which helped but to be honest these tyres are too hard for me and for any serious speed or distance.

Back to handmades I think or at the very least 4000s

This morning I topped the tyres to 95 psi which for me is low, that combined with a heavy bag made for a very smooth and fast trip in. Now even conti recommend 110 so what's going on here?

Without a bag I can't imagine anything over 90 being much fun.

So i went for a ride at Cannock Chase on the hardtail on Saturday morning. When I came home i washed the hardtail and the hybrid. I changed the gear cable inner and outer on the hardtail. Then I removed the cranks and bottom bracket from the hybrid, which has had a hideous creak when you put any force on the pedals. Greased and refitted the BB, popped the cranks back on - no more creaking! result. Quiet commuting here I come!

Fitted an Ass Savers SmartAss to my Dolan Preffisio. That's me sorted for any wet Spring or Summer days. Glad to be rid of the Crud MKIIs; they do a job, but they look shite.

Today I learnt that Shimano shifters are NOT compatible with a SRAM rear mech due to the 'pull ratio'. Well that solves the problem of why I couldn't get sweet shifting on my Boardman CX. Changed the shifters to 105 thinking it would be be compatible with the SRAM rear mech. WRONG. 105 rear mech due for delivery tomorrow...sweet shifting will be resumed soon....

Not that I doubt you but that surprises me, my SRAM dura ace set up works perfectly as does my SRAM campag.

I still think SRAM looks and feel cheap n clunky

Really bad creaking developed last week. Gears checked - not the cause. Must be bottom bracket. Bought new BB, some grease and removal tool this evening. Removed old one. Fitted new one. Well pleased with myself. Quick pedal. Creaking like mad. Hmmm must be pedals need greasing. Remove pedals, grease threads, put back on. Still creaks. Now it creaks when I'm out of the saddle so I decide to go for the most unlikely source. The seatpost. Not that either. I take the back wheel off, take the cassette off and the powertap comes to pieces. Shite. A quick clean, grease and it all goes back together easily. Quick pedal - all seems sorted. Just need to check the powertap is still functioning in the morning.

So my whole evening was spent playing find the creak. That deserved a beer.

New brakes on the Brompton; has to be one of the most unsatisfying fettles ever. The old brakes were so useless that the bike was frankly dangerous to ride in traffic and the new ones are pretty effective, but unlike a drivetrain fettle where you can feel the benefit as you ride, I'm now battling a constant urge to perform emergency stops just because I can...

I picked up the phone and booked a mobile mechanic to come and finish off all the bits and bobs I've been trying to do for the last month, but haven't had the time.

I feel like I've asked someone to come round and service the wife.

Well I hope I'm right. I must admit I thought Shimano / SRAM was compatible everywhere. The pull ratio explanation I found on the web does explain my exact problem; I can shift from the 10 to 9 and 9 to 8 but then it requires 2 clicks of the shifter (sometimes) to get it to 7...and then it get progresively more random as it gets near the top of the block. If I can drop it into the 11 tooth I can't get the top 2 gears, if I set it to get the top 2 I can't get the bottom 2 (sometimes!).

My shifters are brand new, as are the cassette and chainrings (front not an issue). Chain is only 500 miles old. Cables are new (and I've replaced the first new one again during the problem solving). It can only be the rear mech...please.

You can't mix SRAM shifters with a Shimano rear mech (or vice-versa), but a SRAM cassette will work fine with Shimano mech/shifter (or vice-versa) and fit on a Shimano hub (or vice-versa). So everything's compatible, except that the mech/shifter needs to match.

I have used a SRAM front mech with Shimano shifters; it worked, but wasn't brilliant.

Swapped the Dura Ace single sided SPD pedals back to XT SPDs. After 20 years of double sided SPDs I can't get used to single sided clipless pedals. :(
Got to reposition the wall hook for the bike as it isn't very tight on the wall.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

After my slightly embarrassing clipless moment on Sunday which involved unclipping on the left then falling on the right and pushing the front mech arm in, I managed to get the front shifting working sweetly again, including trim in the little ring (fnarr). Never done it before but not as bad as I'd thought it would be. Definitely not worth paying the LBS to do.

Eh? mine are buttery smooth that and the fact its so windy all the time I could be following a full brass band and wouldnt know.

How much does the fecking windy spoil a nice ride and i dont just mean speed, if you cant hear anything other than wind not only is it dangerous (traffic) but its boring and trying.

How have you dealt with the wiring ? Do you have to tape it to the down tube? :?

the wiring is a complete mess at the moment

going to get my mechanic mate to sort it for me at lunch time.

but yes the external cabling runs under the downtube.

the junction box under the bottom bracket is currently attached by half a roll of electrical tape...

i'll tell you what though, it runs like an absolute dream. its so good! SO SO GOOD
