You haven't got one already? Tut tut! Think of all the oily bike bits, old cds, glasses and general small things you need to clean. Please note, ultrasonic cleaners don't work for cleaning under your fingernails. I tried!

I'm seriously considering building this now....

If / when I get one I'll just spend my time cleaning everything I have lying about. Can you get one big enough to fit a baby in?

Having read a blog with tips on better climbing, I found my cleated shoes in the back of the cupboard and put them on for the first time in two years for a longish ride (35 miles). After 3 miles my right knee was hurting (not in a good way) and I realised my saddle was two low (I replaced it last year). So saddle adjusted twice during the ride,I thinks its an inch higher now. As for the cleats, I think they need loosening as I can't unclip particularly easily, so I was not confident enough to stay clipped-in in town with lots of stop-start. I need to find the instructions to work out how to adjust them properly. I had one hairy moment descending a hill round a bend and met a car in the middle of the road, but managed to miraculously keep balance when the bike protested at the sudden braking.

so after the 90min debacle the other evening i ordered a new chain, the correct size this time and the KMC quick link remover pliers.

    so easy.

Played chase the mystery click with the MTB yesterday. Only happened when seated, but felt like it came from the pedals, cranks, BB area. Swapped pedal as one had a tiny bit of play, no better. Removed, cleaned and refitted saddle then seat post, nothing. Took cranks off to clean, grease and refit and discovered the drive side BB cup was a fraction loose. That cured it. A bit odd as I couldn't feel any play at all in the BB.
    Glad it's done though.
Cleaned the boys Frankenbike as it had been hanging by the front wheel and one fork leg had leaked all down the rest of the bike. Must fix that.

I recharged the USB lights and repositioned the bike comp slightly. Does that count?

Will check tyres and reinflate later. The bike could do with a clean but the weather gods have decreed rain for the morrow, so I won't increase my water bill just yet :)

Finally got around to sorting the horrendous creak you get from the gear cable outers rubbing as they "enter" the down tube. It took precisely three drops of lube and it's been bothering me for weeks.

Bottom bracket is clicking and grinding away, that's the next annoying noise on the hit list! Isn't it odd how as soon as you get rid of one annoying noise, another different one pops up to replace it?

Fitted a 1991 Campag Chorus double crank set to the Pug with a 111mm Token ISO Campag fit BB as specified by Velobase.

Unfortunately, I've since discovered that the Campag fit description doesn't apply to all Campag cranksets and so I've now got a 102mm bb on the way.

    Fun.

Finally got round to fitting a 3mm cleat shim to my CX shoes. If the weather keeps going like this they are going to be the only shoes I uses this year so I may was well get them fitting right.

Changed bike two times this morning, di2 noisy shifting on the first and dry BB on the 2nd, slipping seatpost I guess is a minor issue.

new chain, new fixed sprocket, new brake pads - am thinking that there isn't a great deal of performance gain from standard 105 pads to the swisstop greens that are now on there but I'll wait for bedding in and a rainy day before making a call

I bent a chain whip (icetools) trying to get the old sprocket off - do I need to spend silly cash on a park tools one??? please tell me there is a better option

Put some new handlebar tape on and only have one minor unsightly crease (hidden from view luckily). Relatively pleased with my first attempt.

I'm trying to fit a KMC 11 speed link onto a Campag chain, but I can't get it to close fully. Am I going to have to buy the special pliers, or does anyone have any good tips?

I've never had a problem with the 10 speed links, but I notice the 11 speed links are marked as single use rather than re-useable. Why are they different for 11 speed?? :?

re swisstop pads, make sure you clean the rims too to avoid picking up the old crud. Then try them.

Chain whip? My icetools one has been fine - but I put the force through the cassette locking tool rather than the whip.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

Rotate the cranks until the quick link is on the top stretch of chain, apply the brakes and stand on the pedals.

I had a note about them being directional as well, not sure how true that is, but you may want to check (oh and the above works for SRAM Powerlocks)

Pliers to get them open again (easily), not to close them.

Single use = more sales (tm).

New compact chain rings, chain (wow a powerlink - never used one of those before), cassette (30-11) and rear derailleur.

Getting old chain rings off was a b*tch .. tried loads of things, even heat, ended up drilling out the last bolt. Hands pretty trashed by the end of it all.

All those warnings about being careful? There for a reason  Cuts healing up well.

Still a little concerned about whether the 30 tooth sprocket on the cassette is going to cause issues but the documentation says the derailleur can handle it + 20 miles commute in this morning and all seems fine. So appears to be OK. Tonight's climbing will be a better test.

Converted a drop bar road bike to flat bar. It was too big for me in the drop bar setup, but it's a comfy mid-eighties raleigh frame so will make a good commuter for when I want a change from the fixed gear.

Had everything apart from the shifters/brakes so ordered a set of Shimano ST-R221 for £27, but should hopefully recoup some of that that when I sell the original Sora shifters.

All in all a fairly painless conversion - will test it out on the commute tomorrow.

Not bike related but equally as important. Chopped a half empty Pringles tube down so I could get to the crisps without struggling. Should I be worried that the BBE date was 01/12  They were sealed till Monday when I opened them.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Bike cleaned and brakes adjusted. The discs on my scourer are awful and this is their last chance- if they are out of whack again after this I am going to bite the bullet and get bb7s.
