Bath and story time has finished and its still light outside. That must mean IT'S FETTLING TIME!

You work on your bike after you've been read a bedtime story?

Actually, yes. Apparently I don't read 'Snail and the Whale' right so TMP read it to me.
:D Nice. Hope Mum and Disco Chicken are well.
I didn't manage any fettling yesterday as I spent all day decorating and was totally bolloxed. I'm not used to manual labour and after 3 days of it I'm a broken man. Hope to get some fettling time today. Itching to get it finished.

White bar tape is a pain in the winter. Still, couldn't make that old thing look much tattier.

Broke a spoke at the weekend while at home home. Back in London and managed to salvage one of our 'sacrificial' wheel which was damaged in a crash.
Fit like a dream - bit narrower and black, but does the job until I can get a like for like replacement.
Took off the 12-27 (for Bristol Audax, sadly unused) and matching chain, swapped back to the 12-25 for London/Surrey riding. Wonder if I can do the 1.2K strava challenge.
Also slammed the stem, a movement of about 2mm. Wonder what difference it will make?

Tyre back on repaired wheel. New cassette and chain on the commuter, indexed it and new rear pads too. Was surprised the fronts didn't go first.

Had an annoying rattle coming from somewhere - thought it was some loose tools in the saddle bag, so off that came and went in the rucksack, still rattling!

Get off the bike on Horse-guards and give the rear end a thorough going over, It appears that the rear disc lock nut (center-lock, like a cassette lock-nut) had come completely free!!!

    Yikes!

All fettled now and I adjusted the brakes and cleaned and lubed the chain for good measure.

Finished the Kinesis, I think. I was wrapping bar tape when I got the call to kiss my daughter goodnight, so I haven't checked everything.
So I could ride the MTB to work or ride the green beastie. Got to be green, I'll just take it easy until I'm sure nothing is about to fall off.
Pictures tomorrow I hope. Best if Rubertoe tries not to look.

Sorry, it was lovely. Needed a couple of minor adjustments, but nothing fell off. Needed to bed the brakes in a bit more. I must have looked a bit strange riding through Bushy Park slowing down almost to a standstill, then riding off again.
One of the criteria for my new bike was the ability to take a rack and guards. Seems criminal to put such things on it now.

Once it gets a bit mucky, i'm sure it will be fine for rack and guards...

Rode the bike home and made a few final adjustments upon my return. Stopped en route and took a quick snap in the park, not a great picture but that's all I've got for now. Rubertoe look away now.

Sort of looks like the bike wants to go East but the saddle wants to go West

Walking through the warehouse this morning I stuck the bike on the pallet scales. I admit they're not the most accurate and they only weigh in half kilo increments. But I was very pleased with it showing up at 9.5kg. That's not being particularly weight weenieish about things. The Kona weighed 14kg, although that was with a rack and guards.

Transplanted guards, wheels, and XTR V Brakes and a few other bits onto my son's mtb so I've got something g to ride next week while I wait for the new thing to get made.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Gave a couple of BSOs a quick fettle for a neighbour. She had been drving me to work whilst I was incapacitated so I'd agreed to service their bikes. Hers wasn't too bad, his was dreadful. The bottom bracket was utterly fubar and was completely seized in the frame, so I greased it and adjusted it as best I could. One pedal had no bearings left in it as far as I could tell. I got the gears working and the brakes to slow the bike down and returned it telling them it was beyond saving and the cost of parts to repair it was rather higher than the value of the bike.
I just got a text from him saying how the bike is now a joy to ride.

Re-taped the bars on the SS, the FWE cork tape was cheap and only lasted about a year, hopefully the Deda cork tape should last longer.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Mudguards and Marathon+s removed. Refitted Duranos, regreased, cleaned and tightened everything in sight. Also replaced front brake pads again. Are Formula Oros notably hard on pads, because I'm going through the damned things like hobnobs?

I'd rush out and buy wellies and a mac were I you.

re-fitted the mudguards (raceblades) to the focus, in time for todays rain. Stoped 500m into my commute to re adjust said raceblades
