After a day riding with a chain lubed by rainwater I dribbled some proper lube on it earlier.

What wheels did you get for the Kaffenback in the end?

Swapped back to my cxp22 rimmed wheels as my aksiums front hub is getting notchier and the rims are showing quite a bit of wear, damn winter...

My punishment was -4C with a brutal headwind very tired now. But clean bikes are def faster.

Laced a wheel. Previously I've found it very therapeutic, but that wasn't with 25mm deep rims. The first time you drop a nipple in there you know about it.

Only using Mavic CXP22 but nipple dropping is still a PITA, perhaps I shouldn't have started it after midnight as I'm on the third attempt and only laced up 1/2 the spokes.

On the other bike I had to fit some of the £15, for 8, Swissstops I bagged of Ebay.

Overhauled the Brompton. Replaced front mudguard (broken), chain and sprockets. Changed suspension block to Firm (much better!) and replaced gear cable. Removed standard pedals and fitted SPD's. Well chuffed with it again, good for the london bridge - canary wharf sprint. Am missing the embankment greatly though.

Cabled up the Kaffenback though still have to wait for the wheels to be tensioned by the LBS before I can finish setting the bike up properly which will be Tuesday at the earliest :(

Durano pluses installed, handle bars cut down, brakes adjusted and bike cleaned and lubed. God it was cold outside! Mind you, degreasing the disc brakes now means the bike stops!
    RIP commute...

The white lines on the guards are from the reflective strips. Still have to wrap the bars and sort out the KO'd tube in the front wheel.

@redvee isn't that many spacers dangerous?

    Nice bike though.

Ballcocks. Spacers That's what I should have added to my Wiggle order. Well, it's clearly their fault so I'm blaming them.

I hope not, it only makes the front end the same height as the Singlecross. Once ES goes to another sport in 30 mins or so I'm christening it, all is good apart form the brakes need bedding in and to get some better pictures.

Gave my roadbike a brake service and cleaned the rims after remembering that stopping shouldn't take that long or as much planning. Lets see if I did a good job later.

Whilst waiting for filler to dry I snuck out to my cave and started assembling the Kinesis. Headset is wierd, doesn't need a press. The bearings just drop into the frame, they are on a taper and screwing down on the stem loads them up and eliminates the play. Kind of like the taper roller bearings on a motorbike. Only oroblem is I don't have a suitable drift to knock the lower bearing seat onto the fork. Might have to get the shop to do it.

Good idea, I should have some kicking around as well. I was a bit worried about tapping it onto carbon forks as well. Presumably with the plastic protector thingy in the dropouts and being careful it shouldn't be a problem.

When I was did it the plastic pipe took a wee bit of a beating because it's so (too) soft, so everything else was utterly unscathed. I'd say it'll be fine

Waiting for paint to dry I used the plastic pipe as suggested and fitted the taper to the fork crown. Marked and cut the fork, so that's fitted. Thanks Davis.
I need to fit the front brake, bars, levers and cables. Then check alignment of everything before taping the bars. Should be finished about the same time I finish the decorating.
Can't wait to try it. Strangely whilst chatting to my neighbour he told me he's sold his SWorks Tarmac as he didn't use it enough. So he's having a green Kinesis Pro6 built up. What? I thought it was a rare bike.

Hello Redvee. nice bike, really like it. What gears are you using? Shifters look like Tiagra, can't see the back. some kind of new Alfine set up unknown to man?

Tiagra STIs, Tiagra rear mech and 105 front mech. The Alfine impression comes from the 160mm rotors and BB7s.

    More here.

Somehow managed to snap a QR skewer at the (abrupt) end of this ride: http://app.strava.com/activities/46651484 I think i'd been riding without it for a fair few miles as there was an intermittent click that started getting worse then the rear wheel almost came off and the bolt ended up on the other side of the road and I ground to a stop as the wheel hit the brakes and one of the chain stays (there's a mark from the rubbing but I think it's cosmetic).

Fortunately I had a spare skewer on another wheel and was got a lift home from the guy in the car behind who saw it happen. Turns out he does the kind of work I need doing to the house so what better reward?

It seemed to have tightened to lock ring, binding the hub. Hub seems noisy now I've loosened it up and (I hope) fixed it. Oh well, I've had about 8000 miles from that back wheel, probably time it became the winter spare.

Serves me right for trying to ride this:

    8606564219_b0eca97975_c.jpg

    With completely inappropriate tyres.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

You work on your bike after you've been read a bedtime story?

Actually, yes. Apparently I don't read 'Snail and the Whale' right so TMP read it to me.
