Built another rear wheel and fitted it to the bike simply because I want to test out the neon yellow 32h Halo rims to see whether they're up to the task of carrying my weight + panniers ahead of using said rims on the dream commuter bike I plan to build later this year.

Been using a 40-spoke rear wheel up until yesterday so interested to see how 32 hold up.

Spent a few hours on the bike at the weekend as its got a whole week off from commuting..

With some help from http://bicycletutor.com/ I managed to...

Remove, clean and re-lube my chain &
Remove, clean and re-grease the jockey wheels

    As usual I,
Fitted new pads and adjusted the brakes,
Removed the mud guards! Rain rain stay away! :D

Just stripped the FGSS down to the frame AGAIN! this time it's def for sale see http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12688402

Cleaned, dried & polished the CX it really needed it, the frame and wheels were covered in road kill very smelly :? then I swap the bent 50t front chain ring for the only spare I have a 48t, did the 34t to match - boo! spinning for me for the rest of the month

Oh and I fitted some new dual compound koolstop pads to the CX, they're so quiet, i'd kind gotten used to the worn out ones screaming everytime I applied the rear brake.

Right must go, got to turn the tourer back into a mudguard shod, pannier-ed geared plodder and reroute the gear cabling on the MTB, then I might go for a little power pootle

Weather said "fettle" this morning, got bored and built an idea that had been kicking around in my head:

    4448229770_e99dc80bd4.jpg

It's supposed to be a chain cleaner: put a keyring through each end of the chain, dunk it in the tube, and fill with the bulk-bought degreaser. The tap's for draining off the cleanish degreaser

It kind of works in that I managed to build it, but it didn't get all the muck off as well as a good scrubbing. Oh well, toothbrush it is.
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.

Tourer rebuilt completely every single component, just added a rack on the back and notice that the wheel doesnt appear to be sitting straight even though it is even in the drops mmmm bent frame I think

I know this has been mused on before but just what the hell do baby wipes have on them? is there nothing a baby wipe can't clean?

  • Noticed the left hand bottom bracket screw in thingy was wobbling and when I looked closer it had cracked (why is it made of plastic?). Fortunately had a metal one in the spares box and a good clean and tighten later, job done.
Love it when the bike runs smoothly.

Still yet to wash my hybrid; it's only 13 years old, so I'm a bit scared to, in case it's the the road crud that is holding it together.

Ran the brake pads over a file to get rid of the lumps of alu embedded in them then repaired a pinch puncture from a pothole and pinched the tube when refitting  Repaired it and when inflating it to see if the patch was sealed managed to burst the tube with approx 40psi in it and 4" from my ear :x
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Picked up “rebuilt” wheel from LBS, wasted ages arsing around with tight road tyres, and fitted to bike.
Removed cassette, derailler, front mech, shifters.
Fitted SS conversion with 16T sprocket and STS.
    Cut chain too short.
    Removed 16T sprocket.
Fitted 15T sprocket from old cassette.
Fitted (now correct length  ) chain and tensioned.

    Single speed done.

    Fitted beer to hard-worked body.

Stood back, surveyed what I had done, and proclaimed it was good.

New brake cables / rear pads on the Iron Horse.

New Vittoria Diamante tyres on the Viner, as well as titanium headset bolt, Record chain and (fairly recently) FSA SLK Carbon crankset. A few grammes lost, reckon its down to around 7.3kg now, maybe even less.

If only I could actually get out for a ride - why did I agree to run the marathon? Never again, I can't wait until May when all my free exercise time will be back on the bike and my knees will stop screaming for mercy...

Lubed my chain which is sporting a nice orange jacket thanks to yesterdays double soaking, fitted a carbon seatpost & engine!

Much adjusting of seat angle, set back, etc etc in the vain hope of helping my knees :?

Copper-slip on every nut and bolt must get rid of that damn squeak it's driving me MAD

Increased the tension on my SPD not having repeat of last weeks clipless moment, might be time for a new pair of commuting shoes.

General fettling of the Kinesis last night. Re-tensioned the chain (took hours to get it 'just so'), cleaned and lubed the chain, cleaned the wheels and replaced the brake blocks. I had a pair of Swiss Stop Campag compatible pads and shoes knocking about, but bizarrely they would not fit my Veloce brakes, whereas a set of basic Shimano shoes did.

Typically it's wet today, this always happens when I clean my bike!
