Put the bike rack thingy up.

Now I can fit three bikes in the downstairs toilet.

That's got to mean I have space to buy another new bike...

I'm not sure I should ask but how big is your downstairs toilet?

I think three is about the limit, two on the rack and one on the ground.
You could *possibly* just about use the toilet in there as well, but you'd have to be fairly desperate :)

Put Deda Newton handle bars on the Kharma wraped in white Lizard Skin bar tape.

Bought Deda 100 stem in both 110mm and 120mm. Prefer the 120mm but keeping the 110mm just in case.

Lunchtime maintenance: fit new rear wheel, adjusted rear derrailleur based on instructions downloaded from the internet. I now have a bike I can commute on for the first time in a couple of weeks!
FIngers crossed I did it all right, couldn't find the "B-tension screw" but it should be OK. Think I'll probably do a few laps of the wharf to test everything before I head to Waterloo.
FCN 6 in the week on the shiny new single speed.

FCN 3 at the weekend - struggling to do it justice!
  • Took my faulty RH Ultegra STi to pieces, repaired the damaged tooth of the indexing and put it all back together again. Worked beautufully - better than when it was new.

    Then I woke up....

Fixed up the old commuter (Revolution Courier) which had sat in the shed unused for 2 months, so the missus could use it.

Cables were a bit rusty and sticky so pulled them through a bit, cleaned and greased them, also fitted new brake pads as the old ones were down to the metal and marking the rims.

Took the dérailleur off, dumped it in degreaser, rinsed and oiled.

Replaced the chain and cassette which had started to skip, and were so gunked up after winter commuting that they were almost uncleanable. Found some used but much newer ones on ebay for a tenner posted, which have worked out fine.

Adjusted everything and it seems to work OK (I'm quite new to this so it was a little unexpected 8)

Only 2 scars - one knuckle and one on my head from when the lockring finally let go and I banged it on the table.

Aww that so cute. It even has a little water bottle :D
  • Finally got round to replacing the standard toe clips on the Tricross with the other pair of Wellgo B-54s I bought before Xmas. Having fitted a pair to the Pylon8 in the last week, been very impressed with the very wide platform foot support and the level of grip from the replaceable studs.

Definitely £20 a pair well spent!:)

Just to add, when I was bulding up the above bike, I greased or thread-locked everything and generally did it all like I was assembling a much more expensive bike. Actually, the more I read that, the more I think "It's my sons bike, why shouldn't?"

Back from the garage to tell you how impressed I am with the new campag 10 speed shifters with cables, get this the four supplied cables and outers are all pre cut to just the right length

all outers have campagnolo written on them in silver, this is an important tart feature, as well as coming with metal ferules.

I feel tingling all over, if anyone wants me i'll be in the garage*

Replaced the 16t freewheel on my bike and made the MKS chaintugs fit the dropouts of my Tricross, got to do the non-driveside later.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Today I took each bike out for a lap of the village, returning to fix any issues then out again to double check, what a great way to spend an afternoon.

    How was the test-ride?
The above is a post in a forum on the Intertubes, and should be taken with the appropriate amount of seriousness.

New chain and jockey wheels. Now on my third chain in a bit short of 2500 miles. Mind, the bike has been properly off road and in continuous use through the winter so maybe OK.

The jockey wheels probably should have gone a while ago

Stuck new tubes in bike I'd sold to a mate last year. He didn't know how...
Gotta sort his rusted chain out next day or so.

Put new tape onto road bike, as old stuff rotted in damp basement. Ballsed up 1st attempt.
Took pedals off turbo bike, put onto the road bike.
Pumped road bike up to 110psi...with a pump you perverts...

Nah, I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago and they were actually worn to just points on the sticky up bits.

Just replaced front tyre as thought after 3000 miles on standard bontrager ones needed changing, especially after inner tube popped through the side wall of the tyre the other day which wasn't nice to see

Gave bike good clean and re lubed chain and even cleaned bar tape a bit (note to self, never have white bar tape)

You mean I cracked too early?! Dammit!!

The new ones seem a bit better than the Shimano originals - BBB with proper bearings so they won't all sieze up and spin on the wrong surface like the originals. Pretty cheap too.

In the meantime, I checked the tyres (Schwalbe City Jet) and dug some stuff out of them - examples of a few below! Some of them were that deep into the tyre it was like diamond mining to get them out....... Says a lot for the puncture resistance of the tyres.

I hate to tempt fate but I think I may have sorted my road cleat position, hopefully knee pain will be gone or at least less.

Fitted shorter stem to the on-one MTB handling is vastly improved, I think an even shorter stem will further improve handling, also attached the bike trailer for the little one, why I didn't buy a hardtail MTB years ago I have no idea, it was effortless 8)

Oh noggin the nog. Went out to check all the fettling was well fettled and the chain is skipping. Obviously didn't rotate quite enough so a new cassette is needed and one of the old chains goes back on.

spoke replaced on rear wheel of the current commuter (fingers crossed my new frame arrives this week - even if it means one day less commuting as it is being delivered to work)
