Oh, it's like that. My two are both at school this year. The silence is deafening. Might even get the house clean.

At a loose end yesterday while babysitting the plasterers, and having moved the CR1 out of their way I decided to give it a wash and lube. Curiously satisfying; I should do it more than once a year.

We've been childless for a couple of years now since the little darlings, 25 and 28, moved out. We quite enjoy the peace and quiet. However, the eldest and his girlfriend have conspired to make themselves homeless as they fail to move seamlessly from a rented flat to buying a house. So we'll be lumbered with them, all their furniture and 3 extra bikes for the best part of a month. And that on top of us having all our stuff in the garage / shed / loft to give the plasterers empty rooms to work in.

September is going to seem like a very long month...

Obvioiusly not. They haven't invented self clean bikes yet. Bast4rds. It's a conspiracy I tell you.

In days of old,... we had chrome to polish and wheel rims and exposed aluminium. You could make bikes really shiny and sparkly.
Now, I just chuck it in a cupboard after my ride and hope the elves have a change of heart. Do they like chocolate or cat food...prawns... chips with curry sauce...?

does the CAAD12 fork have an integrated headset because I can't bash the crown race on to it

edit: and the answer would be yes but dont do what i did an whack down the race tool so hard you bend the dropout lugs, which i've just carefully bent out again

now then BB30 installation ... buy the proper tool or use my own homemade press?

    :?

Nah. refer to method 1 which involves 'bash' and add lots super glue in the equation. Then, think of England as you wield the bashing instrument.

No matter what method you use, you'll be back here in no time moaning about your squeaky BB.

You're another one needing a hearing test.

Hearing deficiencies in cyclists are now reaching epidemic levels, it seems.

I looked inside the bb shell and can see daylight where the internal cabling guides come through, so basically water will be filling that space and destroying the bearings, awesome design NOT

Stuff the gaps full of sealant.

Wynn's Gasket maker is good stuff. Water and oil resistant.

After having a squeaky chain on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I finally got round to adding a few drops of chain lube to the chain just in time for three days off work.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    So, people who have fettled...

Has anyone converted a 105 setup to using bar shifters. I've now got a spare group set that would go nicely on my flatbar bike but I don't know what shifters to use (if indeed any are possible what with ratios and such)

Until they invent trigger shifters with the same pull / click ratios as 105 Brifters, I'd say it's do able, but a massive faff, involving some sort of Heath Robinson, home fabricated adaptor, that fits between the cable and the shifter, or possibly a split shifter drum with a grub screw adjustable spring ensemble, which varies the diameter of the shifter drum to achieve the necessary pull / click as required.

I think I might park that idea for a while as mechanical engineering isn't really my thing!

Ummm I had a Sirrus hybrid (I said "had", ok?) which had 105 groupset and MTB-style shifters. I'm not sure the pull ratios are different... Or at least they were the same on a 9 speed, IIRC...
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.

I wasn't aware of that particular set up, it might be worth seeing how they did it, and trying to extrapolate it to a 5700 / 5800 group set.

Like these for 10 speed or these for 11 speed or even these which are Ultegra spec 10 speed.
Yes, it's easily done if you buy flat bar road shifters. No need for any faffing or lashing up.

I seem to recall tiagra 10spd uses a different cable pull somewhere(not sure if its front or rear) to the 105/ultegra 10spd setup so that's something to watch out for but it doesn't invalidate your main point that there are flat bar shifters for road groups. :)
