  • Decided to redo all the cables on my old Bianchi. Started with the brakes, fed them through the frame, taped up cables with electrical tape , snip to length ready for attaching to calliper. Move on to gears, thread, tape, snip etc. All should be done less bar tape and adjusting derailleurs and brakes. Go to start on rear brake, mmm, this feels a bit loose. Look in lever - missed the entire recess the cable end sits in as I threaded it through the shifter. Cut off tape, pull cable back out through frame. Start again ! FFS.

Very inventive, but mine's got proper clearance for the full Chromoplastics which are fine but for the dissolving rivets. I actually found 2 perfect M4 SS nuts and bolts in a packet in the drawer; they must have come with the mudguards originally to mount the little chainstay bridge clip that I don't use. So all repaired and good to go again. Maybe I'll go back and threadlock them to be sure.

You can get nylock ss bolts and use a split washer for extra peace of mind.

Bike has been sat in the flat for the last three days as I've been on holiday and each time I looked at it something wasn't quite right with it. On closer examination the rear mudguard had snapped and I'd lost the last 4" with the long flap on it which gave the odd shorter look so a new guard was fitted.
Couldn't find an SKS locally in store so bought a cheap pair of FWE guards from Evans from their bargain bucket for £15 without any packaging or fittings but as I only wanted the rear guard this was ideal but the fittings were different to SKS so out with the cordless drill to remove the brackets from SKS and new holes drilled in the FWE guard and secured with black torx bolts and nylock nuts.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Glued the back of the sole of my diadora shoes back on. For the second time.

    Shoe Goo did not work.

General purpose extra strong loctite this time.

Will try superglue if that fails.

Any other suggestions? They're carbon soled.

Oh, I got a new pair of Sidi's last spring. They looked identical to the old one's I had. Identical size. Almost identical ratchet strap... They didn't perform identically and they didn't look identical when I got a pair of scissors to the tongue and 'adjusted' them a little.
    What an anti-climax.
I also got some of those Spesh G+++ insoles for them when I started developing hot spots on the 40+ rides.

I put a new chain on this morning in my PJs because I forgot to do it last night when I had the chance.

Old chain off, measured up, cut to length and fitted in less than 10 minutes, quite pleased with that.

I got a good tip from a friend about hot spots, look at the length of your cleat screws some of those really long keo ones just press a bit too far into the sole which your foot then gently touches against over and over, i used shorter screws (oh ah) problem went away

A ha, yes. I did notice the cleat screws were longer than the one's on the old Sidi's. Your mate might have a point. I'll look into that, cheers. I have a box load of the shorter one's (I kept for no explicable reason).

Fitted new brake hoses to my VW camper, and bled the brakes. Horrible, horrible job, but it now no longer appears to pull left when braking, so it appears to have solved the problem.

All the bits / tools for the Cervelo have arrived so tonight I'll be stripping down the partially built Canyon to take Di2 off it and put 105 back on.

As soon as that's complete I'll be taking my time with the R3: push fit bottom bracket installation and carbon steerer cutting give me the heebie-geebies.

Edit; almost everything is here. The wheels are still in Hong Kong but I can make do with what I've already got.

Oooh, pics please. I had a '74 bay, Devon Conversion. Spent 9 months full time restoring it. Sold it

    Cockpit: £300
    Saddle: £100
    Cranks, rings & bb: £350

It's upgrade only just after R8000 was released so no cranks or brakes. I had the brakes off a previous build.

It's that time, you know - the swapping of summer bike to winter bike. Should have done it a week ago but had to do some fettling to the C40 first.
Both sets of bottle cage mounts had bits of old bottle cage bolts left in. I bought the thing knowingly but cut corners and shortened 4 bolts and got on with it but I finally decided to drill the old bits out and re-tap the M5 holes. All well bar 1 bolt; the aperture mount is swivelling around but I got sufficient locktite in it to stop it moving. Not enough to tap it so used one of the shortened bolts.

Also fitted the 'Fender nuts' (look them up on fleabay, they're quite handy).

So do I put the summer bike away all filthy and in good need of a scrub after the run that should have been on the winter bike with cruds? No. So that's tomorrows fettling booked.

    Filthy.

I had planned to get it resprayed and back to former glory but won't have anything to hang the crud catchers on in the meanwhile and N3+1 would be plain silly and difficult to get by the resident accountant. So it will have to wait until spring.

Finished rebuilding the Endurace this evening. Fizik bar tape is a pig; it has absolutely zero stretch in it.

Anyway, hung it on the wall in the garage and the rear tube explodes, blowing the tyre off the rim sufficiently to take the chain off the chain rings. Jebus, I nearly needed new pants. Ears still ringing.

At importantly, started on the Cervelo. Steerer measured and marked, and I started the BB before realizing I don't have a 48.5mm 16 notch BB tool. One will arrive from Amazon Prime tomorrow.

    LOL

FYI if you need to rewrapped that bar tape in the future it stretches to shite and is a pig to redo, I still like it mind

I like the Cinelli Gel/Cork handlebar tape. Seems to stretch nicely and sometimes survives taking it off for cable fettling.

TBH, after the early years using Binotto and then Cinelli ever since, I have never tried anything else.
