Replaced the mech hanger and pedals on the Endurace. No more clacky chain under force and no more knee pain.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Fixed a flat and regreased the drivetrain on SWMBO's Bike2.
Then took a Dremel mini-grinder to the pedals... after a quick grinding the clips out a bit, cleaning, greasing and oiling she can now unclip easily...Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.0 -
Fitted my bargain 28mm Grand Sport Race pair to the Wazoo 29er wheels, that were ~£23 cheaper than RRP.
But managed to puncture two tubes, costing ~£7 (albeit they can be repaired), while having a nightmare fitting them. Including an emergency swap to my fat rear wheel this morning to get to work.

I swapped saddles on a couple of bikes today, I found a box in the garage with a ( very nice to be fair ) Fizik saddle, and I don't recall from which bike it came originally.0

Replaced left crank on the Carlton. Existing crank was so loose that when I undid the bolt holding it on (which I'd done up to 'tighter than a camel's ars* in a sandstorm' tight), it came off without the need for a crank extractor. No wonder it was making funny creaking sounds. Couldn't find a correct 1978 Campagnolo Gran Sport crank to replace it, but a 1970's SR Silstar crank that I picked up for £1 at the Ripley Cycle Jumble on Saturday is a close enough match for commuting purposes.
Also pumped up tyres on the bike. You know a tyre is a bit low on air when the rim grounds out as you're cornering. 40psi.... oops!1938 Hobbs Tandem

My Pinnacle Arkose had developed creaks, as it tends to do after a few rainy commutes.
A thorough cleaning of the drivetrain was complicated by the great chain wax debacle of 2017, when I last cleaned the bike I looked at a can of spray on motorbike chain wax in the garage, said 'well, this should be fine' and the cassette ended up looking like it'd been snowfoamed.
So a thorough clean later and it's still creaking under load.. saddle / seatpost / pedals are the prime suspects at the minute.0 -
"Fettled" the non-bike stuff that's been in storage in the garage into the charity shops, skip, or back to original owners.
Now I can plan space to actually fettle in the dry that's not a dusty, dirty, piece of concrete floor.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

Re-aligned mech hanger on the Solace with the new Park Tool ordered last week (was slightly out of line since new). Rear mech re-indexed, bit of faffing with inline barrel adjusters (not had them before), but the real fun was setting up the FD. Thank God for Bikeradar and YouTube, don't think I would have got it without help! All seems to be running sweet now.
Hopefully my cold symptoms will have abated sufficiently by tomorrow to get a proper shakedown ride in. Over the last 3 weeks ( since I pulled a spoke through the rim and having to send the wheel off for warranty repair) I've had the roadie in stripdown.
New cassette, new cables, new wheels, new pannier rack, new bar tape.
It's taken an age & way more time than a professional would have done it in, but I've learnt a lot in doing it.Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

Changed disc brake pads both front and back on the Macho Man, did grease the crank to stop a creak and change the pedals too, as I ride mostly with flats on that bike. Next is swapping the chain and cassette, as the old ones are rusty.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

Why don't you just carry a tub of grease with you*?

Having neglected the Flying Scot since last year when I realised the brakes were not doing their job. Eek. Bought new brake and gear cables last month and did the brakes today. Wonderful! Once the gear cables are sorted it will be back on the road as the pub bike. (Need to find a method to loosen and level the saddle which is slightly skewiff). Good weather...fettling...brilliant.0

Did more work on the Macho Man today, replaced all stem bolts, as they were in really bad shape (corrosion) and installed a new bell. Also cleared up the bike shed a bit.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

well i never, just used my derailleur hanger alignment tool on three bikes two of which were way out, what a MASSHOOF difference a straight hanger makes to indexing and shiftingRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

I've just taken the Campag freehub off the Shamals and put it on the new Boras, and put the Shimano freehub that was on the Boras on the Shamals. Then put the Shamals on Mrs 66's bike and consigned the Fulcrum Racing 5s that were on her bike (and now feel like boat anchors!) to the spares pile.
And put a coat of glue on the Boras and the tyres that are going on them.
Tomorrow: swap the brake pads on Bike 3 and mount the tyres.
Only odd thing is that the Shamal freehub was nice and noisy on the Shamals and is close to silent on the Boras. Wondering whether there is something I can do to restore the noisy clacking.0 -

Did you grease splines etc.? Heavy grease can be nice and protective but dulls the noise. Chris King manuals actually explain to get the "angry swarms of hornets" noise use just oil (their own stuff for the job costs about the same as 50 year malt) - to get better lasting protection and dull the noise use grease.0 -

Just took the freehub off each axle and swapped them over. Both were as greasy on the old axle as they are on the new.
There are three pawls at the base of the freehub which engage with teeth on the wheel so that you get forward motion when you pedal. When you freewheel they "flatten" and I think make the click every time they pass over an engagement point. But to make the click they need to be flicking up, courtesy of a spring, which seems to have lost a bit of its pull.
I think. Maybe.0 -

I had forgotten that normal people do not have a compulsion to take apart and grease/oil anything that comes off the bike.0 -
After four drops/crashes finally got round to replacing my rear hanger.
Genuinely feels (and sounds) like a new bike!
£15 and half an hour well spent.
Just need to replace my crankset now so that it changes gear properly at both ends. Hurry up JE James/postman and bring me my Ultegra crank to replace the FSA one that has worn out the chain pin thingies in 2400 miles.0 -
Tidied up in the garage today - a rare day off, but no riding due to a) bad back b) remnants of summer "man flu" and c) waiting in for plumbers and electricians after a massive leak from the hot water cylinder yesterday - still not arrived btw
Anyway, drilled for new hooks and hung up the recently purchased (and used) hanger alignment tool and carbon bladed hacksaw, alongside other assorted bike tools.
