Saddle was bottoming onto the old Campagnolo seatpost bolts... so I drilled a hole in the plastic-composite base of the saddle... job done

Dismantled the coaster-brake hub on my daughter's bike, with a plan to remove the reaction arm and make it into a freewheel. Failed, googled it and abandoned ship.
Has anyone done this successfully and have it working so you can back-pedal? Lots of youtube of people doing it to BMX hubs by taking out the pads, but it's not clear if they can rotate the pedals backwards while stopped.

Built my first wheels (novatec hubs, ACI DB spokes, Pacenti CL25 rims) and finally got round to testing them this morning. No unusual noises and they haven't killed me yet, so I'm calling that a success. This was supposed to be a winter project, but never mind.

New rims are a bit trickier to mount tyres on, now mulling over tubeless possibilities.

Tested my Rapha Prestige Limburg set-up and the only thing I need to do differently is ensure I tighten the bars properly (hit a pothole on Tour of Cambs and the bars rotated a few degrees - teach me to cut corners when reassembling the bike after flight). Gonna need the short gearing: route has been released and Strava reckons 3500m of climbing in 190k. After the tragic accident of last week, our team will only be 3 riders (one rider has understandably dropped out) so I'm going to need all the help I can get. This ride will be like Rapha HotN on steroids.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh damn you bloody rattling cassette

Eventually swap my sram for a smaller 11-23 ultegra on the Scott and had to adjust and reindex two bikes in the swap over.

Also had to bodge the commuter for tomorrow so now rocking a token bottom bracket with gxp adapter, feels rough as a bag of screws but should see me until I get a replacement

Seriously someone needs to do an article on what spacers with which hubs, its driving me mad.

I've ended up running mavic wheels with sram cassette 1.75+1 mm spacers

Ultegra wheels and cassette with a 0.5 mm spacer but now I'm thinking I should have used a 1 mm as per the tech docs

    Grrrr

Fitted the Octalink Ultegra crankset I got off Coriororiordan on to the boys road bike. No more creaking, finally. Might ride it to work tomorrow.

Removed the thick layer of dust and pumped the tyres on Cervelo then rode it 1 mile

Also weighed it again, 14.5 lbs with two bottle cages and barfly mount

Ticking was back all the way to the station this morning and then mostly silent on the way home

regardless i just stripped cleaned and refitted the headset and seatpost, i also cleaned then greased the pedals and chain. All of the well know click sources, what i found was the start of rough wheel bearings.

    What a total PITA

    bah!

tightened stem clamp as it was creaking when riding (haven't been to test yet), cleaned full gears n everything and need to take to evans to see if they will "fix" my bent hanger... Replaced rear tyre that was flat and wearing through. Lubed.
    Took mudguards off too :D

Bought some SwissSide Hadron 625s and fitted them a couple of days ago. My first ever purchases set of aero wheels - only ever ridden borrowed ones before - loving the difference they make above 35km/h. Feels almost like cheating, they hold speed so well

Took me a while to figure out valve extenders - have a feeling I'm going to vet very pi55ed off, very quickly when i go looking for the little tool to pull the valve core out...

The sound they make when ramping up is almost erection-inducing...

    !!!SUCCESS!!!

in fact double success no play no grinding and no rattles, a quick hilly 12 mile shake down ride and aside from the howling wind not a peep from the Scott.

Tomorrow will tell if the Trek remains silent

once again RTFM or be prepared for noisy rides and premature component wear

First time out on the 'crosser for a while yesterday (due to getting some nice carbon wheels for my CR1 SL which seem to to draw me to that bike more than ever). Rear shifting was cack, but managed to track it down to just a loose cable. Closer inspection revealed no damage or unravelling, so cinched back up and set about re-indexing. Once complete, decided to deep clean the chain, got rid of all the crud, then the degreaser and liberally applied Squirt chain wax and left overnight. Rode into Avebury this morning across disused railway line and bits of the Ridgeway as on a day off - the Rival transmission was flawless and silent into the bargain. Also decided to run the tubeless tyres at 35psi - what a difference that makes! Love that Squirt stuff...

Plus the MTB needs a good run in

You don't need a MTB. In fact I ended up selling my Stumpjumper after the Pro6 came along 8) Was gorgeous up there today (Windmill Hill, after a pint at the Red Lion in Avebury)

Nice day for it, I did a there and back a few weeks ago on the Trance on the ridgeway, rather overkill for the ridgeway but fun never the less.

In between watching TV tonight I fitted the front PDW guard to my Tricross, needed a longer bracket to drop the guard down closer to the tyre given the CX clearances on my bike but the front is fitted with no rubbing and cleared the disc calliper with a spacer.

Replaced the chain and cassette on a friends bike, then told him to order some chainrings. Replaced the chain on mine at 0.75 so didn't replace the cassette I'd ordered just in case. Cleaned the bike whilst I was at it and swapped the tyres front to back to even up the wear. Given the number of tyres I seem to have accumulated maybe I should have just replaced them. Fitted new wheels and tyres on the boys bike as well. Quite a productive weekend really. Unfortunately the chain slipped once when I was pulling away from a set of lights this morning and my back brake didn't want to play.

I thought that was generally considered not a good idea, having less grip on the front could go very bad quickly or is that just another old wives tail?

Possibly, but I have done so before the tyre is knackered so there is still some tread on both, just a bit less on the front for now. It would only be an issue on wet grass, tarmac should be fine as they are37mm tyres so plenty of surface area.
Or so you mean cleaning a bike is not a good idea? I'd agree with that.
