Complete ground up build of the pink fixie and a full strip and rebuild on the road bike, cutting down the steerers on both; new cables for the roadie and actually managed to tune the gears. GCN have some handy videos up.

Just need Ugo to build two front wheels and both will be perfect.

New chain, new cassette, new cables, new bottom bracket, new rear derailleur pulley wheels and finally a change of outer chainring and the R3 is finally shifting properly without rattling. Lovely quiet ride in to work this morning.

Equillibrium cleaned and new bb installed ready for selling. Veloce groupset (excluding brakes) cleaned, ready for selling. Miche/archetype wheels cleaned and ready to be put back into commuting duty. Wife's Brompton cleaned and greased. No idea how she gets it so mucky and mechanically knackered. Now at least it's clean and working.
    RIP commute...

I changed the air filter on my car last night. It runs slightly better now:

After another puncture on the inside of the tube, ie next to the rim. I had a look at the rim tape in the area of tonights PF visit and couldn't see anything likely to cause a deflation so removed the rim tape and put an old rim tape that hasn't caused me any punctures and also fitted a new Conti GP 4Seasons, after 6000+ miles and over a year it was wearing a little thin in places but not the cause of any punctures.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

tonight i'm all about saving posts

1st question, anyone remember the name of the company that repairs campag shifters?
2nd question, i have two pairs of 4000s with dozens of 1-5 mm slits most of which i've repaired, bin or just use?
3rd question, I run a 3T alu seatpost on my Scott, its flipping MASSHOOF would you cut it just before leaving on a cycling holiday?

    Use them.

I'd leave it. Even trimming 100mm off you're only saving 13 grammes or so. For some reason I can't link to this URL:
    https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=%28%28%28pi+*+%2831.8mm%2F2%29+^2%29+-+%28pi+*+%2830.8mm%2F2%29^2%29%29+*+100mm+%29+*+density+aluminium

(can someone check the maths on that?)
Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes it’s your fault.

    1. http://www.campagservice.co.uk/ergo.htm
    2. Bin them if you're getting lots of punctures, the last pair I had perished after 18months and were paper thin at the end
    3. Leave it, you'll make a mess of the machined end and weight saving is minimal

Was suffering with a noisy drivetrain. Turns out I just needed to clean and relube my chain. I must've been a bit stingy with the oil the last time, which admittedly was a while ago.

two sets of tyres packed and one spare new tyre just in case, couldnt be arsed with the seatpost so that's staying long for now.

I did find a new in the box 12-27 cassette which i've just swapped out with my 11-25, however this new cassette is 105 rather than the SRAM it replaced and even with the right torque and spacer there's a tiny wobble, i do not like wobbles

Still driving so I thought I'd take the Mini. Stopped to put petrol in, fuel cap had seized solid. Drove to work and levered it off with a f@cking big screwdriver, thankfully we have nearly 600 fuel caps in stock. The good news is I now know the gauge is under reading and I have nearly 1/4 of a tank left.

Fixed a puncture waiting for me in the garage this morning, sorted the front brakes while I was at it. Promptly almost pitched myself over the handlebars when first applying them.

Been having a problem recently where chain drops off the big ring randomly onto the small ring, even under load, very annoying. Got a few days off work so had a good look yesterday. There's a massive kink in the ring where 3-4 teeth are displaced perhaps 3-4mm sideways. I can remember the chain-suck incident and subsequent soul-wrenching leg-kick unjam which probably bent it there in the first place. Application of a pair of pliers to straighten it out, next ride on Tuesday once back in UK so will see if it's sorted.

    Fettling of a kind:

Extra testicle examined by doctor last Weds, prescribed antibiotics and referred for precautionary ultrasound scan. Swelling immediately started to reduce, painkillers no longer required, and by the time of the scan on Tues afternoon the lump was so small I had to point it out to the ultrasonographer. She reckons it's likely a harmless cyst.

So I got home early, and went out on the summer bike for a quick 25 miles without any discomfort.

    Result!
  • Good news, glad you're fettled and running correctly.

Upgraded the CR1 to Campagnolo and 11 speed. Life is good.

Top tip if you change your cassette before a big ride after you've ridden a shaken down recheck the torque, noisy shifting due to a bit of play is really annoying after 11 hours

Changed out the 115mm stem that was on the mtb when I bought it for a 90mm. Had a ride today and the handling is a lot livelier. Very enjoyable ride!

Cut 1cm off the Dolan's steerer. Dare I go lower, i.e., do I really need a spacer above an integrated headset?

As i've not been into the office for a week i thought i'd check over the ha! summer commuter

front & rear brake pads getting very thin and both of the planet x ultralight calipers need attention, the front had unscrewed due to somehow stripping the bolt thread, the rear was seized, removed it and took the whole thing apart, clean oiled and some of the rusty spring de-rusted.

    single pivot brakes - meh!

About to change bars and tape on the good bike. Just out of curiosity, had anyone previously fitted Lizard Skins two-colour tape? Just wondering how much of a faff it'll be to get the transition in colour under the hood cover.

Finally finished putting together my over-axle bearing press. Now a job that used to take 15 mins, faffing around with QR skewers, old bearings and a socket set, takes less than 1 minute, and it probably does a better job too :-)
