Alright, so my boss will be fettling this afternoon on my behalf because I just can't get the hang of it. I'm his PA and he's my gear sorter-outerer. Good eh? :D

So he'll turn the barrel adjuster half a turn and look like a hero....

Mate, it's worth me making him a cup of coffee-that-looks-like-gravy every half an hour just for knowing what a barrel adjuster actually is.

    Biscuits also work well.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I know, but it's Lent, and I'm catholic, so anything resembling biscuits, chocolate, sweets or cake is verboten until Easter Sunday. And I know that theoretically I could get them and give them to him, but practically.... I'd just crack, start crying through sheer deprivation, and eat them. My weekend treat is..... a Powerbar :(

Lets be honest just looking a bit helpless and fluttering eyelashes works every time. Assuming it is a person of the female persuasion doing the eyelash fluttering, a bloke doing it just looks pathetic.

You'll soon be British Cycling team mechanic, in the meantime have a fettle with one of the track bikes to understand gear indexing

Fitted a new chain, I even took some links out all by myself :)
Debating whether to get a new cassette as well, and some 105 callipers, and a shorter stem...........does it ever end ???

    no it never does end.

replaced my Tiagra rear derailleur with a new Ultegra.

new wheels, new cassette, new tyres, new chain, new bar tape, new rear derailleur.
Front chain ring, shifters are still original Tiagra. Everything else is Ultegra.

  • Just re cabled my CAAD10. I must be out of practice it took me two hours. Those 6700 STIs are tricky. I also fitted new bars and stem 3T Ergonova. Racing season is almost here.

Aye that new routing on the Shimano STI is bizarre, I had to actually read the manual which is one step away from asking for directions ....*shudder*

Sybil is out with friends today so I packed the kids off and washed 3 bikes- hardtail MTB, commuter and Sunday bike. Fitted new bottom bracket to commuter bike and replaced bar tape on the Sunday bike and indexed the gears on the MTB. Now settling down to the Villa/Chelsea match with pork pies and Duvel

Replaced the wheels on the EPO's station hack, new tyres as well. It rides quite well now, not bad for a bike that's more than 10 years older than I am.
Then tried the mech alignment tool on the Kinesis. Found it was slightly twisted. Shifting seems improved but I ran out of time so didn't get time for a test ride.

Took the Scott off the turbo and removed one of the spacers from below the stem.

Tomorrow looks nice so I think I'll be taking him to Richmond Park tomorrow morning.

Swapped my FSA SL-K BB30 for an Ultegra crank (with some pointers from K_B - thx)

Arrow & LH on my FSA crank was confusing - suggesting it was LH thread which it wasn't. But, apart from that, it was very straightforward.

Also fitted a 12-30 cassette to the rear on 10-sp Ultegra Di2 which seems to be fine.

Got to look at my creaking 00 this morning. Pedals ok, cranks tight enough so went on to remove cranks and look at bb. First thing fixing bolt is sheared in half and a part is now stuck in the crank. Got the crank out and took out the bb. It's filthy. And the plastic sleeve is now stuck in the bike as well as it didn't come out with the cups. Bugger.

So have ordered a new bb and bolt. I am learning rather quickly!

Hope all that went okay, and you got the old brackets out without too much swearing.

Actually it was very easy once I'd undone the crank, thanks. The bearings just tapped out and then the circlips were easy to pop out.

  • So this is registered somewhere on t'internet

2009ish GT Aggressor XC2 frame take replaceable gear hanger GT MHGT62, the bolt that holds it in is a CHAINRING BOLT.

Said bolt is not supplied mailorder with the hanger from Evans (like in the picture), neither can they identify this when said hanger is presented to them with the question of 'what bolt do I need?'
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.
  • After first race on updated Allez, I am happy with bars/stem dropped to just a 10mm spacer. Time to cut down the steerer. The stack above the stem must be 60mm plus!

Replaced my front Campag calliper with a Shimano Sora one, using a Campag shifter.

Washed four inner tubes in the bath...after repairing them. Wanted to make sure I'd repaired them properly.

All sorted, easier than anticipated. Hardest part was probably getting the new star nut in straight and level.

Contemplated removing the steerer below the top of the stem but bottled it a little at the last minute.

    PerformingMonkey,

What make of stem is that, it looks like a -17 and I need one at a reasonable price?

It's the unbranded original alloy one that came with the bike (http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bikes/ ... pact#specs). Sorry I can't be more help.

Think I may have saved my dead Garmin. The computer wouldn't see it at all, did a full reset and it would see it but couldn't read it. Formatted the thing last night and reloaded it and it seems to work, just uploaded the ride in to Strava.

New chainset, after the FSA mega exp BB exploded on thursday.

I hate FSA BB, they are made of cream cheese.

I took the opportunity to put a new chain and cassette on as well, so much better. I also removed the guards and gave the bike a good clean.

I also have my summer lightweight rucksack.
    Expect the rains to come.
