    I'm up for that one!

Now the serious question: Hybrid and flat pedals - ok combo or should I get straps or a toecage? Clipless are not an option as not enough time to get used to them (plus money is v tight).

What is advisable to bring with me? I've got a prk with 1 tube. Should I get another one? What about food/drink? As a runner I take water + energy drink and jelly babies/gel stuff for runs over 10 miles - similar for a bike ride?

Sent a prayer to the weather god for a dry, warm day also :)

PS: Can my brother come? He, at least, has a road bike and he can repair any punctures I may get, but don't tell him I said that :D

Yep, thanks to IP and DDD for leading/initiating. And to everyone else for making it a fun day.

It was nice to see everyone stick together. For anyone contemplating the next one (who maybe put off by the rather professional looking bunch in the photo :) ) get yourself along. The emphasis is social with plenty of encouragment to get everyone round.
  • Looks like you all had a great time - hopefully I will be able to make a future ride.

Re Photo: I know this has been mentioned already but seriously, TART ALERT! :D

Ps. Can't talk since even my elbow support matches my kit today.

Oh... I didn't catch quite a few of your names when we met at RP so I was going to ask who the following people were:
    • Liquigas chap (far right in photo below)?
    • Tall guy in Campagnolo jersey with rainbow-type stripe across it (fourth from left)?
    • Guy in black/charcoal/blue jersey with plaid-style pattern across it (behind/between me and Jash)?
    • The chap sixth from the left in the cap (between Biondino and PinkPedal)?
    • The chap second from the right, next to Liquigas?

Had a great time yesterday, a big thanks to everyone that made it.

I'm keen to arrange another ride soonish, perhaps one with a few more hills in as I know a few people are keen to have a crack at boxhill etc. This ride would involve a slightly earlier start, no break for lunch, and should be around 50 miles starting in RP at 9 and finishing in Wimbledon by 12 or so (we'll stop for cake at the top of Box Hill), so less social and a bit more of a workout  :

    Not quite so slowcial

Let me know if you're interested.

That sounds perfect for me. I can make most weekends coming up apart from the bank holiday w/end and the one after.

Must admit, my knowledge of real name = user name is only slightly better than it was before yesterday!

Excellent, thanks, and sorry I didn't get your names/chat properly yesterday.

Kieran - Hagrid is me :) ...The Tricross is obscured by other, non-cyclocross bikes.

Sounds good to me, but I'm pretty tied up until mid September now  If you sort out dates, I'll see if I can slot it in somehow, I'd love to have a go at Boxhill again.

I think it was officially the most Tricrosses gathered in one place outside of bike shops.

    And CX events, of course.
  • I think Lardboy was on a single cross. Is that just a single speed or does it count as CX?
  • Jamey
    Jamey Posts: 2,152
Ooh, forgot about that, yes he was. And it counts. It's a SS version of a CX bike so allowable in the record books I think.

    *Hiya!*

Yeah, the Singlecross is distinctly perverse. It combines the disadvantages of SS riding (high cadences from undergearing, so knackered knees) with none of the traditional weight advantages.

My next bike will be geared, for sure. Then I might be fully perverse by making the SS fixed for the winter.

Yep I'd be up for this. I'm usually around at the weekends and within 10 mins of the park.

Hmm, I might be able to make it along for a ride like that - an early morning - early afternoon could be possible and looking at that route I could peel off around Worcester Park on the return leg to head home!

I'm insanely jealous I couldn't attend now as it looks like it was a cracking day out, the attendance levels are getting to near club levels - maybe it is time we looked into an SCR kit :-)

OK lets firm up some dates.

Paragon ride (more of the same pace/slowcial) we need:
    Details/Time
    Dates
    Ride Leader
Meeting Place - I propose Dulwich Park - across the road from the Picture Gallery, near the Dog Pub/Dulwich Village.

Principe's not so slowcial Surrey ride, includes Box Hill.
    Details?time
    Dates
    Ride Leader
    Meeting Place

(If people wanna keep track of what's been decided and PM me or post it up here I can amend the first post as I may lose track of the discussion from time to time).

I can't remember where, but it was on the outward leg. We all had a bit of sprint, you went past me and I couldn't get anywhere close to you  Mind you by that time I was doing about 140rpm and my legs felt like they were going to fall off

You're a lot fitter than you give yourself credit for. Distance is all in the mind, once you have to confidence you can do the miles it's time to start putting in the times and pushing things a bit. As your confidence grows so will your ability to do even more silly mileages. Then one day you'll look down in the mirror and you'll be ITB, you're already halfway there with two punctures on Sunday

Might it not be better to have a separate thread for to "not so slowcial" rides? I can see a situation where you have people replying with "I'm in" and nobody knowing which one they're referring to.

Speaking of not knowing what I was referring to...

Whoever said at lunch that they had to reboot their Sky+ box loads, get one of these to reboot it in the middle of the night automatically.
