Chaps (and chapesses) - it was an absolute pleasure, hope the rest of the ride was as good as the bit I was there fore (probably better ;) ).

Will leave a longer message this evening hopefully, as I've got family here just now.

Sorry I had to scoot off, but my right knee was painful every time I straightened my leg, so I thought another 20 miles wouldn't be a good idea. Luckily there was a train to Clapham Junction about 10 minutes after I got to the station, so I was home by 4ish.

Thanks to everyone for a great day out. DDD for suggesting the whole kaboodle, Il Principe for leading (with only a couple of U-turns), and PP for guiding me to Richmond Park. It was lovely to meet everyone and put names, faces and steeds to usernames and avatars!

I'm not going to make the one in a couple of weeks time as I'm doing a bridges ride on Saturday night, so an early start is unlikely. Definitely up for more though!
    Bike/Train commuter: Brompton S2L - "Machete"

Oh God, I'm so sweaty in those pics.

After I left I headed for Epsom station but stuck to A-roads so it was a bit more hilly than would've been ideal but not too bad.

However, while I felt fine on the ride with you guys I started getting pretty knackered riding to Epsom and my back was hurting a fair bit. I think frequent stops are going to be the key to me doing longer rides as that's the only difference I can put my finger on.

Thanks everyone for a FANTASTIC day out on the bike today, it was really great fun. :D:D The pics are looking good.

Special thanks to DDD for organising, IP for route leading and pub selection, and the other Garminers for keeps us all going in the right direction and to Biondino for chaperoning me around the "roundabouts of doom"*.

It was lovely to put faces and real names to online ones.

what was the pace like? if its not killer i might actually consider riding all the way down to you next weekend... as the full loop there including your ride would be around 60miles

Pace is "leave nobody behind". and for you it would be more than 60, it was about 65 for me and i'm in Hampstead.

Fantastic ride, everyone. It wasn't fast for the most part but damn I can tell I've done a proper ride! The Cricketers was brilliant - what a great place for a pub. I almost wish we'd had a football or something.

It was lovely to meet so many new faces - including a couple who decided to introduce themselves on a slowcial ride and then shot off up with front with Jash at every opportunity. You know who you are :)

Congrats to everyone who set new milestones - I think I managed to consume the most beer on a long ride :)

And finally, I am proud to say I still have the pinkest bike in the forum. Nice try PP but until you get the saddle...

I got my second puncture on the way home. This time the front wheel  Couldn't be bothered fixing it plus I had no innertubes and I weren't walking home. So It was go slow down Wimbledon Hill, through the Broadway and homeward bound. Then a car nearly killed me.

    BUT WHAT A GREAT RIDE.

I echo everything everyone else has said!

Am sore after all those sprints to the front group. Gonna hurt in the morning.

Thanks for a fun ride guys, nice to meet people for the first time.

Were you still wearing your innertube sash at the end DDD? Was it punctured?

Innertube sash had a puncture, was gonna fix it when I got home but couldn't be bothered so I threw it in the bin.

Great ride everyone, nice to meet you all.
That's my longest ride ever, don't feel too bad for it, not too sore at all.

Wasn't in too much trouble when I got home :)

Good to hear you all had a decent day. Sorry I didn't make it, had a crap night's sleep and woke up at 8 feeling like the last thing I needed to do was get out of bed. Was all good after sleeping in a while longer, but don't reckon I'd have been on form out there today.

Thanks everyone for a great day - it was my longest ride for well over a year and my final average speed was about 1.5mph faster than ever before on a long ride.

I *was* the slowest up hills (by a long way), but everyone was incredibly patient and waited at the top. A HUGE, HUGE thanks to Oddjob for being the kindest man alive and being my own personal coach and staying with me up the hills (I use hills in its loosest term, the others are probably thinking speed bumps, I'm thinking alpine mountains on at least a couple of occasions), particularly at the end when I was really quite tired.

Everyone was incredibly friendly and it was fab to meet yet others from here. Hope to see you all on another ride (if you can stand the pace! ).

Sounds like great fun, I opted to meet Linsen & Attica for a pub lunch in the New Forest and very nice it was :D

@DDD shame about the PF if it makes you feel any better I had 3 on Sat
Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.
  • That was bloody brilliant guys.

Thanks to DonDaddyD for initiating, to Il Principie for organising the route and it was great to meet you all.

I made it to the jerk cook off in Forest Hill which made a superb ending to a great day. Incidentally, the people I met up with in Forest Hill had a bunch of mates along from London FGSS and they had all been doing something similar, though I think their day out involved a lot more hanging round and looking hip rather than actual bicycle riding. Though it has to be said they too seemed like a perfectly charming group of people.

My crap comp recorded the following info:

    Time: 6 hours 8 mins 12 secs
    Distance: 78.4 miles
    Average: 12.7 miles

That records "ride time" including all stops apart for when the clock stopped at breakfast, lunch and a tea-time bevvie on Wimbledon common. It also includes me getting to and from the start and end points (about 15 to start and 13 from end).

Thanks all for a great day.

Glad to see it was a success.

Coriander your comments made me laugh and I think I'll take your 'title' off you on the next ride, I'm sure.

Shoulder, I also went up to the Horniman after taking a very roundabout route involving West Norwood and Crystal Palace............................ from Balham and don't ask

So when's the next one DDD?

That was a great Sunday's riding, and thanks for not mentioning my comedy clipless moment guys

DDD - just wait till I'm out on the Madone

Great weather, and fantastic to see some new faces as well as the usual suspects. I certainly didn't regret the decision to do it fixed, although the legs are feeling it today.

A huge thanks to IP for leading the ride, even if he did stay well clear of the peloton with his domestiques and the sprint sensation that is DDD :lol::lol:

Unfortunately I can't make the next one or two, I'm off for some silly mileage in pursuit of ITB :lol::lol:
pain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................

I forgot to mention some special thanks:

Principe (again) for fixing my puncture and promoting the virtues of CO2. I'm a convert.

Oddjob for so selflessly holding up the rear making sure no got dropped.

PinkPedal for the draft along THAT hill, THAT FLAT and that route.

    Coriander for sticking with it!

@ITB, I was running Conti Ultra sport - the tyres that came with the bike. I think its time I stop being an skinflint and man-up to some Attack/Force

@Cafewanda, I believe the next ride will be the 'Paragon ride', should be on the front page. Not sure who is leading or where we're meeting (Dulwich I think) and Pink Pedal I think has set the date.
