Shame but better for me that you dont get one as 'I'm the only P7 on the Forum'

I've just returned the hire agreement to Cyclescheme to get me one - sorry mate!

Now I'm doing the toss-up in my head as to whether to go for the S or the Pro - head says S, heart says Pro - and then I try and justify with pounds and pence - if you take into account the cyclescheme savings, paying the extra to get the Pro out of my own pocket, makes it only £100 more than the rrp on the S...

And then the head starts to follow the heart...

I won't ask any of you for advice, as I know exactly what you're going to say...! :D

You must be a mind reader

Just go with what you can confortably afford & enjoy :D

He was never the 'only P7 on the Forum' anyway!

Da Mighty Chicken - if you ever finish the bike, let me know how you get on with that Hope BB. My BB is wobbling a bit so I suppose it needs replacing and the Hope would be my choice (what was wrong with the ceramic bearing version?) assuming they can be had in non-bling black; I'm not compromising the stealth functionality of my bike for anyone

I meant that I'd be the only 2010 P7 on the forum along with a bit of tongue in cheek!

Rolf F, Certainly will report back when the build is finished, and yes Hope do make a black BB :D

I know you did! Now stay calm and start screwing things together

As for the 2010 bit, maybe I should glue a bit of rubber tube to my non drive side chainstay so it looks like I have the 2010 stay brace

As for the bottom bracket, thanks for the confirmation - I assumed they might do black even though it probably hurts them to do anything that isn't anodised a funny colour!

Did you see this: http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12635886 ?

If you are the right height, it isn't a bad deal (can maybe hack more off....) - that way, Da Mighty keeps his 2010 exclusivity!

Thanks Rolf - but it's a bit big for me - I test rode a 17" and it was spot on...

Plus - I pushed really hard to get work to get us on Cyclescheme, and since it came too late to get my winter road bike, I've got to get something with it now, haven't I?!

Thanks for the heads-up re. the S Vs. Pro - thing is, that fork needs the Hope hubs, which takes it to +£375 above the voucher, which then doesn't feel that far off the Pro at +£500, with the other goodies to boot...

It's a toughy - and I think it's going to be decided by how wrecked my credit card is when the voucher drops onto my doormat...!

Only needs the Hope hubs if you go for the QR15 - the standard Fox Vanilla R upgrade (£154 bargainilicious) can be had without the Hope hubs.

Depends on what you want - for blinginess the Pro is definitely the best but I doubt that for actually riding you'd know the difference between a Pro and an S with the Fox forks. Otherwise it is XT vs SLX/Deore mix and Hayes over Avid brakes. Not sure those make such a difference.

  • the pro is a lot better, go for it.
  • this is the longest running 'my ride' thread without a bloody bike in it lol

    Whats happening??

DMC - i know you're not keen on CRC but you probably need to get one of these.

I replaced the GXP BB on my 2008 P7 a few months ago, and from what I can see the 2010 models still use the GXP.

Sorry to report that they don't come in red!

Might be that you've already got it, in which case - where's the photo?!

Hmm - the Orange website is telling me different, but I will talk to my new-found friends at Mountain Trax and take their advice!

I'm quite sure I won't be able to tell the difference at all between the two - I'm so new to this dirty MTB malarkey it's unreal...! Your sensible suggestion of taking the S and upgrading to the Fox forks was my initial thought, until the website threw up this hub issue - whilst I know the Hope hubs are a good upgrade, with the 2010 price increase of the S, it just seems to bring the two pretty close together - perhaps I should start a new thread for this though - I've completely gate-crashed!

Ack! You are right! I was looking at last years website (bit odd that way are Orange - end up getting last years website without it being obvious!).

I'd give Orange a ring on this one - it seems a bit sneaky. You can get a Float without the QR axle (and therefore without the Hope hub option) but the standard non QR Vanilla R is no longer listed.

Either Fox have stopped making it or Orange have realised that the standard Vanilla R option gave you most of the Pro experience with much less cost. When I specc'd mine, I did come to the conclusion that if you want more than one option you may as well go Pro.

So, if you can convince Orange to let you have a standard Vanilla R for less than £170 ish or less then I'd go S. If not, I'd go Pro though don't tell them that

    Hi Anono,

Do I need this if I'm using say an XTR chainset/cranks? It says on CRC its only needed if i'm using Truvativ GXP cranks?

I think you are OK on that one - it is only for the GXP cranks which I think you get on any standard P7 build. So you are fine if you are on XTR.

So, good news - you've saved about 8 quid (which I won't save....). What are you going to spend it on :D

  • I've just bought a P7 pro with fox float r's, the performance pack and a custom colour of neon orange. I was only going to get a normal colour but i saw the colour on a five in the shop and had to go for it. I've got to wait four weeks for it but i have test ridden a P7 s in the lakes and i can safely say it's amazing. Definetely a great classic no nonsense mountain bike!
