Orange P7 Pro Custom Build -FINISHED (Pics page 30&31)

Hey all,
After lots of thought about what sort of riding I'm likely to be doing, I've decided to get a hardtail and also to build it up rather than buy 'off the peg', so I proudly present you with this custom build thread, which I must say will be a WIP, so I'll buy parts as and when I have the wonga
I have the new 2010 Orange P7 Pro frame on order which will be with me sometime in August, and I have ordered it in a custom 'Cloud White' colour, which is an almost pure white rather than the off pearl white that normally comes with the P7 Pro.
Well, enough chat, heres some pics of my first parts that arrived the other day!
Thats all for now, Brakes & wheels next around the same time as I get the frame in August(ish)

ello mate,
Shifters have a real quality feel about them, love the metal shifter, really crisp shifting as well.
The Thomson seat post is, as far as seat posts go, a 'work of art', I got it from wiggle which was £62.99 but I used a free voucher to get a fiver off, so only £57.99! & free delivery.
Gotta wait til August because thats when Orange are going to release the new 2010 range of the P7Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

I really like 'em, when I test rode an Orange ST4 I noticed how nice they felt and looked, so I got me self some, haven't had any real time with them yet but I think they'll be just fineOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Depends where you buy them but in general they are cheaper than the Peaty's. If the Peaty's had come in black with red end caps then I would have been tempted but grey, nahOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

The Strange grips are shite IMO.
They wear down really really quick, well they do if your on your bike every day. I replaced the ones on my Orange within a few months.
There are much better grips, like the DMR locdd grips, you can get them for around £10 and have much better grip.0 -
Hey Mr Wu,
Thanks for the feedback, though at the moment I'll stick with them as they feel really nice and look the part too, imho.
Plus its one of the cheapest parts to replaceOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Some nice bits and pieces!
I plan to do similar upgrade on a Marin I got of e-bay to get the bike I always promised myself.
So far have got eggbeaters, Monkey-lite EC90 bars and EA90 stem - really happy with them.
Grips were swapped from my old Marin - Lizard Skin Moab - but I like look of Strange to match black theme on bike (Lizard skins have silver rings that went well on my old Palisades).
I had planned on a Masterpiece seat post - why did you decide on Elite?0 -

Sounds like you got a really nice bike brewing there, you gonna get some piccies up for us all to see?
Got the Elite post as all the reviews and peoples comments on it were very postive, I also like the look of it, and I wanted a post that was really strong for me big bones!
Isnt the Masterpiece post more money as well? Merlin have the elite post for £49.99 at the moment, well worth it IMHOOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Those shifters are nice aren't they, I've wanted some for a while now but had only seen pics on the web, until my last visit to my LBS and one of the staff bikes had them on and I instantly fell in love with them.Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Am I right in thinking those XTR shiters don't have a gear indicator? I can't see one...0

Yeah, the XTR shifters have no gear indicators. Never could use them anyway, its a bit like driving a car, after a while you get to know what gear you are in just by the feel & speed you are goingOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Hi Scott,
Some of the bits that I'm about 100% on are
* Hope Tech V2's on there, 183mm Floating Rotors in red front & back with braided hoses
* Hope bottom bracket in red (not sure on stainless steel or ceramic?)
* Mavic XM719s with Hope Pro II hubs in red
* Chris King Sotte Voce headset in red
* Rock Shox Revelation Team Dual Air 150 - White/Red - 20mm Maxle (2010 model) but internally lowered to 140mm
* XTR front & rear mechs
not sure on the chainset yet, thinking of the XTRs or some nice Race Face ones but probably going XTR.
Thats all I got for the moment, watch this space 8)Orange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Lol, let us know how you get on with it.
TBH I've read lots of reviews about Shimano & SRAM chains and both have lovers & haters, and both seem to have the same level of reliability, so just bought the best chain to suit my setupOrange 2010 P7 - Custom Build - My New Bikey Poos

Any P7 is going to end up gorgous.....Didn't you fancy the white Peaty grips though? You could stick them on for the pictures then keep them clean by changing to the Strange black ones for riding0
