Oh come on - it's like Trisha or something in here sometimes.

Lighten up - I'm short and balding - at least you can do something about being overweight

  • ok so some of you guys like your chocolate.... what about a substitute?

I've just bought a new protein powder after hearing about their taste.
I mixed it with water to make a shake and WOW... the taste was a hell of a surprise.
I got a strawberry creme one and it was gorgeous!
They do chocolate flavours and apparently for chocoholics they are meant to be much better.

The major bonus is that as well as satisfying your cravings they are giving you per shake 20g of protein and only 100cal, making it much better for you than an actual bar of chocolate.

So I mean sure ... accountability is the best and making sure you keep within your daily cals but if your addiction is so strong that you've got to have a chocolate taste hit then a susbtitute like this may help...

Anyway I bought - "PhD Nutrition Pharma Whey" Strawberry Creme flavour.
I'd bought the reflex strawberry flavour last time but it wasnt as good.
The only problem with it is that it takes a fair bit of stirring and shaking to mix this one. Still an extra 5 calories burned is always a good thing! ;)

Theyve got choc mint, choc cookie, vanilla and banana as well
    and I get mine here
    http://monstersupplements.com/store/p/782/1/PhD-Nutrition-Pharma-Whey---5lb-/-2.27kg-+-FREE-Monster-Shaker.html

By the way - they do a price match there so if you google anything cheaper they'll match it and still give you the free shaker! ;)

Something to think about anyway... and if you're not getting enough protein in your diet then you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone with this. ;)

Whats the best was to measure bodyfat?..is there some tool you can buy?

We just had a chat about this in the bmi thread.
basic height/weight/age calculators online are way off (pun intended)
Tanita bodyfat % scales are better but still come with a +/- 10% margin
Better still is the tape measure and callipers.

Read the warnings on the tanita and dont use them if you have a pacemaker fitted. A friends mother had to keep going to hospital for years because her pacemaker kept going off and didnt know why until I asked them what scales she used!!! ;)

instead of coming strate home and onto the lappy like i do most nights i thought i better take a leaf out of some of your books. so grabbed my suusser and went to the chippy lmfao no i went into the new forest and banged in some miles. So today i have done about 10 mile from work and about 15 mile to and round the new forest. so about 25 mile in total. And i feel great. Cheers for the insperation guys.

@bramstoker - Well donton losing that much mate. i realy need to start looking at my diet now coz i feel that is what is lettingme down. i have lost 3 stone in 9 month could of lost more but the food i eat is crap at times. if i get board or a little depressed i just hit the chocolate machine at work. 2 or 3 bars later and i fel even worse. I know what ya saying about loving riding, mate i wouldnt do anything else now i love xc it such a buzz when ya flying thro the trees and it only you and the next obstical. Would be interesting to chat at some point mate to see wha sort of food your eating and how you monitor it. for my own use

Well XxxBFGxxX i swear by weightwatchers, dont bother with the meetings crap, always struck me as overpriced and patronising. Get on ebay and buy the books, but make sure you get the points calculater or point finder.
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Weight-Watchers-S ... 5|294%3A50

I found you can eat anything and its less anal than calorie counting, i dont get to bored with having the same foods most days so i found filling and tasty stuff and stuck mostly to that.

    Brekkie 2 bits wholemeal toast
Lunch 3 pita breads tomatoes cucumber (various fillings)
Tea salmon fillet prawns and egg noodles
    Snacks Bananas and pears

You learn whats filling yet low points, and you can have some things free from points, so
i make losts of zero point soups (carrot and corriander or cabage, swede and parsnip) they really clear the tubes out :D
A feather is kinky, a whole chicken is just perverse.

I'm on weightwatchers too, today I've had one massive bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes and milk, two big wholemeal sandwiches with mayo and lots of wafer thin ham, a bag of crisps, 4 apples, a cereal bar. And am just about to sit down to a nice fish pie with a load of veg. Later on I'll have a yoghurt and a bar of chocolate and still have 5 points left over so could have a couple of beers if I wanted.

o no i think this could be a shock to my sysrtem lol. next pay day when i go shopping i think i am gonna try somit new namly this weight wathcers one.
  • I really dont understand what the deal is with these weight watchers points.
I mean all its really doing is swapping big numbers (called calories) for smaller numbers (called points)
And in the process making lots of money for their 'revolutionary' system by selling books etc, etc.

It just seems like a total con to me.

spose i shall jump in also :)

My name is gary.... and im overweight,,,,,,, last time i looked i was 5ft 8 1/2` (that half counts! ) and creeping pretty close to 15 stone...

treated myself to a new Cube ltd team with the idea that if i spent that much on a bike it would be a bloody good incentive not to let it waste away in the garage,, lol .. and to a point its working :)

Unfortunaly due to long work hours , and a young 1 year old baby and another on the way.. time is very limited for riding... and i struggle to get out monday - friday ;0( so i try to get a couple or 10-15 mile runs in over the weekend.... not to keen on rain though... lol

also due to having hardly any time in the evenings its hard finding time to even prepare a decent dinner most nights what with getting baby sorted and off to bed (wife works evenings so im on baby duty) i was wondering if its possible to get them milk shake things as a replacement to food... as ive heard a couple people mention liquid diets in the past...
God how much easier my life would be if i didnt have to find tiime to cook... just mix a milkshake each night!! i might even get time to sit and relax for 10 mins if i could do that... lol

well... keep at it everyone :) hope this Saturday to do the 20 mile+ run round Rutland water if the weather holds off :)

Can I lose 1lb by tomorrow to make it a full stone!? ;)

So this cycling thing really does work....
  • Went to the gym last night and had a decentenough workout. There was a message left for me to say I had completed my current programme and would I arrange a review/upgrade. Then I went on the scales.......ooer -no weight lost (well, maybe a smigeon) Verdict? Must do better.
It's nice to see so many joining the FC too.

Didn't do mouch yesterday but potter, forercast was awful and I kept waiting for the heavy rain to turn up........ which it never did. :?
Still a rest day every so often aint gonna hurt, so went out today in some unusual conditions- big white ball in the sky supplying heat? WTF? 8)
So 30 miles again on my singlespeed and very nice it was to, felt quicker than previous times, but I really need to put a bike comp on this one- but I kinda like not having one, no gears and no watch- quite liberating! :)
    Weighed in after the ride to see, 17st 12! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Not going to be official till Monday, and I have a ride at Penmachno this Saturday, so should lose a wee bit more before Monday. :D

edit: been doing some weights at home ass well, only got a single bar weighs just over 50lb, bench press and curls, just trying to build up a bit on the top half, as my legs aint too bad but my arms I feel are a bit skinny...

Don't forget inch loss, sometimes you can lose nothing but areas of your body will lose size, inch and weight loss rarely happen together, try some smaller clothes on and see

  • Yay...Fat Club goes Sticky!.......

Rob Mafia - I see where you're coming from. I have taken a couple of notches of my belt and feel much, much better in myself even if the scales are telling me something slightly different so something's happening. I'm not at all disheartened largely because I haven't set myself too strict a target. This is a great thread with loads of useful stuff and encouragement. Thanks all.

  • RHS - hello again fellow Sussexer!

Weight v measurements is always an interesting issue.

It's been 9 months since I started 'gyming it' seriously - proper programme, trainer etc etc. I don't weigh a great deal different but I *look* different. I look slimmer, I am down 2 dress sizes, I have nicely defined muscles in my arms (I do like admiring the definition in my biceps every now and again, I will admit :D ) and I feel great.

Even better is that I am loving every minute of the gym and the biking even more.

Might see you out there one day
