Yes always up for meeting new people. As long as the pace isn't too fast.
I recently got a Cateye milo thing, for the first 200 miles or so it told me my average speed was 12mph - but now it just displays 'E' (exhausted?)

Will anyone be cycling over (slowlyish) from SE London? I have no head for directions so need to trail someone, please...

Sorry is this has already been covered, but was far too lazy to trawl through a whole, errrr, 7 pages.

    Thanks

The drinks are on the 18th of July, meeting midday at the coffee shop in Richmond Park, a few laps then on to the Roebuck. I reckon 1300 at the Roebuck will be about right, and I'll definitely be there by then, so look for a girl in lycra with very long hair if you haven't been to one of these before.

The Coffee Shop is in the north-eastern corner of Richmond Park, adjacent to Roehampton Gate car-park.

So you're intending to get there for midday, wait half an hour for stragglers, get multiple laps done and still be at the pub for 1? Chapeau :)

    12midday?

Please accept my apologies. I have to drive to Southend to listen to Skin-Dread (rock metal/guitar hero type band) for my friends stag-do.

I may and I mean may be doing laps at 9am/10am and leaving around 11/12pm but don't hold me to it.

I've organised a few meet-ups of this kind myself - may I make a tweak?

You give a firm time for the group laps of the park - midday is good, anyone arriving more than 10 mins late can lap on their own, or wait and join lap 2.

The pub part - I find it's easier to give a rough ETA for the park-lapping gang, so stragglers or non-riders can turn up to the pub knowing they're not going to be waiting alone for hours - in this case, say, 2pm.

But the firm time for the laps is key because inevitably people will be late and they need to know that the others can't wait round forever.

(of course we have the advantage that the pub is just next to the park so any individuals or groups who came late, or just fancy lapping during the afternoon can just pop off for one. Everyone's a winner!)

    Tweak away, m'dear.

I figured an hour and a bit would be more than long enough for laps, so then anyone wanting to do more could continue the self-flagellation while the saner souls among us head off for beerz.

But yes, although I reckon I'll be at the pub at 1330, 1400 may be a better idea for non-lappers...

    I will re-edit.

I'd just suggest making it more informal. Show up around 12, wait half hour-ish for enough people to show up and then do some laps. The pub isn't going anywhere so it doesn't matter what time people get there.

Are you allowed to take drinks over the road from the pub? Prefer to not need a lock on the day, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of outdoor drinking directly outside.

Sounds good Lit/BD - As I'll be a late arriver I imagine I'll have to either wait or start riding clockwise until I find the group, pull a massive u-turn and catch yall up :-D Failing that if it looks like I'm arriving closer to 13:00 I'll go straight for the pub......

I've seen loads of people drinking over the road.

The logic's fine, but people don't work like that! Also, who wants to wait around longer than necessary? It's sad but true that groups need to be told what to do if you're going to have any kind of organisation.

The pub, of course it's fine, but the people just going there will want to know they won't be sitting on their own indefinitely, that's all.

Yep, it's fine. I'd still probably bring (or share) a lock, but then I'm paranoid.

    Clarified the outdoor drinking/lock issue...

I think setting times is a good plan, otherwise we'll be hanging around all afternoon. However, they are not set in stone, if it's only me at 1215 I'll probably wait a bit longer!

I'm up for a couple of laps, never been to Richmond Park before.

Anyone still want some company from N London? I suggest we meet somewhere around Regents park. Depending on expected size and speed of the group we'll sort out the exact details closer to the time.

99% sure I will be heading up for this. It's going to be easier for me to leave the train at Clapham Junction, and from there, it looks like a better bet to ride over to RP (train from CJ to Richmond takes max 15 minutes, but station's on the other side of the park, plus waiting on the platform). TfL journey planner reckons 31 minutes to the coffee shop, but I do have a tendency to, er, 'creatively follow' the routes it gives me (apart from the obvious point that those routes aren't always the best way to go!) Anyone fancy meeting up at/in vicinity of CJ and riding in?

StuAff, I'll be coming from Balham, so I could divert slightly and meet you at CJ if you like?

Just to warn you, I'm not a speed merchant and if your route includes East/West Hills, I'll need an oxygen tank as well as my inhaler   :D

Hmmm....I'm not really a speed merchant either, but it's not without trying (typical speed 15-16 mph), and I seem to be genetically indisposed towards pootling. I'm probably not a good travelling companion for you, I'm afraid! Passed through the 'gateway to the south' on Friday night/Saturday morning, on the way to Brighton.

No idea about hills en route: the TfL journey planner has suggested a route that runs Falcon Road (start), cuts through to York Road, Smugglers Way, a bit of Putney Bridge Road, Fawe Park Road, onto Disraeli Road and then Upper Richmond Road. Sound OK?

Sorry to ask a daft question, but would it be best to turn up on our commuter bikes so we have a chance of recognising someone, or the weekend bikes ? cause we is goin out.

    What about name tags

    Home-made name tags of course!

Or someone could be designated Mum and have a thick felt tip and a roll of those big white stickers so wee can make our own name badges. Haven't you ever been to a training day?

I'll be easy to recognise: black Dahon (they're both black), probably the Jetstream (ickle 20" wheels), and for further ease of identification, I'll probably wear one of my Metallica jerseys (out of competition, they were too expensive), in the unlikely event anyone else on a similar bike turns up.
