Silly Commuter Stats

I don't think that's particularly exceptional in the company that will be chasing the top spot, unless he does it day in, day out. I do just under 40 miles 3-4 times a week, weather and work commitments permitting, but I doubt I'll be in the top 30 even if we don't have any more new entrants. Also, the guys chasing top spot do good miles in the week but then go on to do big sportives and the like at weekends, there is simply no catching them!
There's only one certainty, I won't be close.
What I'm worried about is the people who are just biding their time and waiting for longer daylight hours and better weather to crank up the miles. Can't see me in the top 30 either, I'll be pleased with 5000 for the year which would be a big improvement on 2009.
@ITB - please go out on your bike, do a quick 8 miler and put me out of my misery, it's only 1/2 an hour of your time!_________________________________________________

Rich158 and Will3 are very similar distances...
I find doing 30 miles a day knackering getting out at the weekend is hard enough without jelly legs. Saying that, winter miles etc
My target is 7000 miles for the year I'd like that to keep me in the top ten...we'll see
my immediate concern is the 19 miles home - 23 mph headwind gusting to 35! Its going to take about 2 hours and be truly awful. I can almost hear the collective sympathy.0 -

hopefully I'll make up the shortfall over the weekend.0 -
Well job change, same job (well title) but a whole extra 4 miles per day with, the odd longer trip.
I can hear you all quaking in your boots.......0 -
Alright. Just joined the SC league.
10 miles each way to work, did it once last week, twice this week.
3 times next? If the old legs allow, of course!FCN 4(?) (Commuter - Genesis Croix de Fer)

I'm certainly having to work hard to stay near the top as my commute is pretty short compared to some!!! Hopefully as the weather improves I can start adding a few each way but for now I'm just taking the shortest route possible!!Still breathing.....0

I brought in my extended commute at the start of the week and immediately withdrew it again - it's no fun cycling an extra 5 or 6 miles if it's entirely in heavy rain.
Looking forward to March though. It's bound to be sunny one of these days.0 -

I think i'm doing pretty well considering my commute is only 3 miles0 -
The wind was horrible tonight. Wouldn't have minded so much but I absolutely had to be home by 16:00. Didn't quite make it.0

Anyone else care to log their rain stats, (I just wanted to see how "realistic" the TFL website claim of 8-wet rides a year would be for me in the Peak District)...

I've already had more than 8 wet rides this year. So so much for that claim.
In fact I've had mroe than 8 wet rides in the last week!!0 -
very happy this week, got 114 miles in this week and got a ride to work tomo. gf staying at friends so ill be up extra early to get some extra miles in
Considering I done 80ish miles the whole of december, january, and februray last year im over the moon with just short of 700 in jan and feb this year. Finally got the right pain killers to control my condition so I can ride again
So glad i cycled today, had to be at the jobs fair and look smart, tempted with train but ended up cycling which im so glad i did now0 -

Rain stopped play, no mud guards on the road bike just yet, wicked tailwind but I feel a bit like a cheat nipping out at my leisure in totally unsuitable clothing choosing how far and when to turn back.

Yey a break in the rain, i'm outta here, 20th place WILL be mine
Edit: it all started off so well then the rain came, then my old friend came a knocking not a problem I have all the tools to do a roadside repair..... FAIL! no spare tube or patches thankfully I was only 8 miles from home, well within the coverage range of the "support vehicle".
Perhaps this wasn't the right tool for the job today, do you like the mud guard?
the lanes are pretty rough, billions of tiny sharp stones and twigs
Should have taken this, perhaps now I should use my time to finish it.
Nope the rains stopped and it's clearing up, i'm off out againRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

I had a lovely ride today down to Wells and around the place, even saw the big yellow bright hot thing in the sky momentarily...... and then the heavens opened and I had a nice hour in torrential rain, no coat, very soggy. Rain stopped about 30 seconds after I entered the house, how does it do that!!!! anyhow a nice 65 miles in the bag, and the rain saved me from cleaning all the cow sh*t off the bike!FCN 8 mainly

Had a nice little pootle down to Dartford Heath today. Have to complete 34 miles tomorrow - and as I'm leading the Bexley cyclists monthly ride out into Kent tomorrow - that should be no problem at all.0

Missed my target (201.3), though the very thought of posting that phrase on this thread was enough to get me out for 36.5 miles today to get over the 200 mile mark for Feb and show a healthy increase on January (125miles)
I'm going to continue trying to build up the mileage week by week as I think its working

Bit of a fiddle about to the leaderboard.
It now shows your position in the leaderboard prior to your last update. As it's not the football league where matches finish at 10 to 5 and we can have a shiny new table, I've tweaked it to show where you were before your last miles. Usually you'll rise a place or two (so green flag) then like me steadily sink back down. Red indicates you're lower than you were, green = higher.
I've also added cumulative miles to show har far you need to climb above all of the riders above you. Go the add page so it knows who you are, then via the home page lin to let it fill in your cumulative miles gap.
More later.0 -
