Well,
Indulge me for a moment as I celebrate the embarrassingly modest achievements of reaching not only 45th on the table but edging into the top 10 WTD and clocking "above average" miles...
This will not last- I'm on holiday next week and anticipate a precipitous slide down the table, to be followed by a continuing rapid descent as those with more time and energy start weekend rides and extended commutes with improving weather/daylight etc.
This is as good as it's going to get for me, so I say chapeau to all those who take part and farewell to the top 50, who I won't see again until, perhaps, January next year!
I'm humbled by how hard it's been to cling on to the top-50 and even stay above "average" thus far- I thought I was pretty hardcore, I don't have a long commute but I do it every day, whatever the weather... it would appear I am a mere lightweight... indeed, perhaps even a wuss...
Cheers,

I find doing the miles really easy, but getting on the bike every single day is not easy.
I had to force myself to do it on wednesday morning, the other 3 were fine, but i was wrecked today so didnt even consider it after i stood out of bed and felt my legs.
Give yourself a pat on the back for complete consistency!0 -
Clocked up 50 for the week and still have the weekend to play with But shopping is calling on sunday this week and bike fettling for a friend calls on saturday followed by a curry.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

got london to brighton to do tommorrow so another 55 miles to add
I love the fact I only work 3 days a week and can have lots of leisure rides as and when they suit me
Plus mornings getting lighter so can increase my commute even more, god this is very addictive i just keep looking how many miles i need to do to gain a place. plus raising money for chairty by doing 6000 miles in 10 months0 -
London to Dunstable this afternoon. Rather hilly (esp Elstree and St Albans). Rather knackered now. Might try to find a longer but less hilly return route.0

Too many hills this morning - my poor legs felt it! Still, 1000 miles beckons tomorrow morning...Still breathing.....0

I've just had to correct my entries for the last couple of days, dunno what I did wrong but a couple of entries didn't register.
This is my sixth day on the bike this week, when looking at others my mileage is nothing to shout about, although my legs are screaming.
I'd like to say a big thank you to CiB for thinking this up. It's definitely spurred me on, is getting me close to 13 stone and I feel generally more energetic (leg ache excepted).
Must MTFU and get at least 2 hours in tomorrow.
IMPORTANT REMINDER - For those of us with better halfs, it's Valentines Day tomorrow so we have certain things to do to maintain harmony within the household...so it's gonna be an early bike ride for me_________________________________________________

remeber you're comparing yourself to a hardcore group of mile crazy cyclists not the general public.. you still are pretty hardcore in the grand scheme of things
I'm flogging myself to stay in the top 10, I'm sure there will be a point where I just dont care anymore, but I have set myself a target of 7000 miles for the year so at least I'm doing to for a reason rather than beating(well not but you know) some people on the internetPurveyor of sonic doom

plus everyone seems to have gone bonkers this year, I wanted to hang around the top 10 area like I did last year but struggling to stay top 20.
Mr Boffin is still ahead of me and he's been on holiday for a week!!!!FCN 8 mainly

+1.
I was absolutely goosed this morning. Always the way on a Saturday, so that'll be my rest day (or maybe a turbo session day). I'll just have to ramp up the mileage during the week from here on in, with longer rides on Sundays.FCN 2-4.

The 1.8 miles was actually ridden on the Trikidoo because I took the kids to the flower shop. Was going to head back out to the LBS for another 1.6-ish for some inner tubes, but got stuck watching the rugby. No doubt I shall rue that lost 1.6 miles come 31st DecFCN 2-4.

Back from a week off work, & therefore off the bike. I promised myself I wouldn't look at the Stats all week, and I haven't.
I am feeling relaxed & repaired but 9 days of good food & great alcohol has ruined me, I am going to be dying on my saddle come Monday - can't wait!0 -
JonGinge wrote:The difference for me this year is that I'm doing the Marmotte in July. I need some good base mileage or it's going to be a world of pain. Actually, it will be anyway but you know... I expect my monthly mileage will tail off significantly after that.
The difference for me this year is that I'm fit. It took me the whole of last year to get there though.
Did 48.48 miles today and with no Valentines commitments tomorrow will see if I can do a bit more in the morning.0 -
Cycling cancelled today
I have had an adverse reaction to Pinot Noir and Guiness.
I may not make it.

london to brighton yesterday added a lovely 63 miles to my total and pushed me into the top 40
Hopefully good week with some decent miles in can push me up further, aiming for another 150 next week, should be doable i think0 -
Struggling here down in 38th place. It's wet today and there are other plans anyway, and we're away for most of the week so my only direction is down for now. Top 20ish for most of last year is a distant memory.Benno68 wrote:I'd like to say a big thank you to CiB for thinking this up. Thnaks, but redirect it (well most of it then) to ITB. His was the original concept. If you go back to Page 1 of this lot, there are requests for csv lines, people doing tricks with awk & grep, then a Google spreadsheet that sort of did the job for the handful that were on it. The web page came about when boy elder here had the decency to go down with apendicitis leaving me stuck at home on my own looking after boy jr for a few evenings.
It is a spur tho, if a bit too much of one sometimes. From time to time it'd be nice to drive to work with a clear conscience, instead of having to worry about the effect of not cycling on your stats position.0 -
I'm very late to this thread, only looking in for the first time around Christmas just gone. It has certainly been a great inspiration. I never logged rides before so I have amazed myself with the mileage I am clocking up. Not having the option to drive to work anymore has certainly been a big factor - no excuses but to ride, whatever the weather.
That said, there were a couple of moments on this morning's ride when I turned to my riding partner and said 'What the hell am I doing this for?'. Needless to say the conditions weren't the best, but at least it is light just gone 7 so only 45 minutes of lights required!Still breathing.....0 -

I know he's on the other side of the world and all, but sod it I shall take pride in the fact i'm ahead of him until he's back.........right now to try and get ahead of JonGinge who always seems to be just ahead of me!!!!

I'll thank the both of you then, ITB for the idea and you for getting it up an running.
No miles for me so far today, it's looking unlikely I'll do any unless I can sneak an hour later on.
I must, must catch Scrum V later on as I was in work yesterday and missed THE MATCH. I caught the last 5 minutes which nearly killed me!_________________________________________________

+1. Must set Sky+, too. Ker-rist, I was all over the show. You know the poster shot of "Platoon", with William Defoe on his knees, arms in the air (admittedly, after being shot), that was me on the lounge floor after King Shane of Williams scored under the posts.
