He seems to be double counting miles (or at least his January + February miles are half his total miles.)

Yes but he is enjoying the awe of people logging their miles this morning and thinking "who is this Owenlars god?" before reading this thread and saying "ahhhhh", that said, still pretty good stats!

I think Cib replied... I nearly spat my coffee out when I saw the gap from 2nd to 1st

owenlars update the total using your miles from jan + feb and that should be it. the update total miles is a little clunky (no offence cib) and should be treated with care, it's a total amount

Yeah it is a bit clunky.

The Update Total Miles only exists because when this all started I was getting regular requests to change miles, so I added a bit to allow you to do it yourselves. It probably needs hiving off to somewhere out of the way to discourage its use as a normal way of adding miles. Under normal use, adding or deleting trips adjusts the total anyway. It's intended as a 'sort out unexpected miscounts'.

Anyway. I'm adding myself to the Midlands League. We're a bit borderline here for being Mids / SE but as I originate from the centre of the whole universe as measured by the Romans I reckon that counts. Edit - whoohoo - top of that, for now. I didn't expect that.

Also Celtic is a euphemism for not English

 I'd like to see you explain that to a pubful of pi55ed up Cornishmen - you know they don't think they are english.

anyway - this proves i'm celtic:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Celts_in_Europe.png
a map of celts in Europe

anyway - I'm happy to withdraw if asked...

I changed the map to a link - hope that's ok.

You've got the spirit of a Celt in my opinion, I have no objections to your inclusion.

You know I looked at the map and had a change of heart.

However you seem to have a typo in your post. You did mean 'we' didn't you.

*currently pondering wether the 'no emoticons in 2010' resolution really is such a good idea

I sort of meant they - technically I'm not cornish, just descended from a cornish family who crossed over about 100 years ago - I have the evidence :D and I was born and brought up in the bit of Devon left untouched by the Romans - they only got as far as Exeter don;t you know - anything west of that is Celtic.

As it happens I don;t think I'm English - never have done 8)

And on the subject of SCS - got my bike back from its service this morning. Now that it runs properly and smoothly - and I've got use of all my gears now - I can't wait for the weekend to give it a proper run. I reckon I've got to put in a good 100 miles at the weekend.

From one of the villages to the west of Milton Keynes to the edge of Bicester, plus infrequent but regular trips up to the Hinckley area. You can't get more Midlands than Hinckley, unless you pause just up the road at High Cross; the Fosse Way / Watling Street junction.

presume you don't cycle from milton keynes to kinckley though?!

Sometimes; not for work but for social visits. 48 miles - a nice run.
  • Added myself to the Midlands league. Going in at number one was a bit unexpected! I'm sure it won't last though...

This one may not be popular,

I had to drive in today.................ohhh the stats, think of the stats!!!

Sat at a traffic light waiting to turn left towards Greenwich Park, I notice a cyclist filtering up the left. Now bearing in mind I had been sat at the lights for a while, indicating left - as i was when I approached the lights, he can't have been oblivious to my intentions. Now this is quite a tight left turn which requires me to move slightly to the right to avoid the pavement, and as the lights go green the numpty next to me decides there's a space I'll start to move into that, despite me still indicating left and starting to turn left. He was extremely lucky I am a fellow cyclist, who gave him a bit more room, was aware of him, and tried my best to avoid him as he slowly inched forward whilst I was turning left.

FFS he could see what I was going to do, why he didn't just sit behind me, let me turn left and then carry on is beyond me.
pain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................

    Right

I'll try and fix this double counting. If I suddenly zoom to top of the list again you will know I've screwed up. (At least I'm being honest)

generally further north and west than you in the environs of the capital of the Midlands, and out towards Shropshire. I'm just limbering up so far as I shake a cold and avoid ice, should be around 140 miles a week once properly up to speed, question then is if I can close the gaps that are already opening up! I was nowhere near you last year of course, though oddly I finished about the same as SBezza, who seems to be on an absolute mission this year!

All I can think about now is how good my bike felt to ride in today (I'd forgotten what a well maintained bike felt like) and how I can't wait to get back on it to go home.

Might do my super duper extra long ride tonight taking in Hackney, Silvertown, Thamesmead and Erith, maybe even all the way to Dartford. 8)

Good man. Ignore the Update Miles box. It's only there for when something has gone wrong.

    Week to Date

the gap is the distance between you and your next target (the person above)

Week to date, Gap to the rider immediately above you, YTD = year to date.

YTD & WTD are cumulative totals. Gap is for encouragement.
  • owenlars wrote:

week to date = miles posted this current week
gap = distance you need to close on and pass the person ahead of you

    both automatic updates

Gap is what you check just before leaving, to see what you'll gain by going some ridiculous route home just to add 4 more miles on. Quite effective it is too. :)

Week to Date and the mileage gap between you and the person above, in my case the gap is a biggy

Well as he did come up with this idea in the first place I'd be inclined to look favourably upon pedalo miles, if only to see him on the news halfway across the Tasmanian Sea.
