I just can't be bothered tonight, this morning commute was so shite I'm half tempted to just head for the nearest country pub, although the "locals" are not acustom to men in tights and little caps.

strangly in my four years out here in Windshire I haven't really bonded with the natives.

Surely the ability to walk into an unfamiliar pub in full lycra is the mark of a true cyclist?
Have to say I'm seriously impressed with that ice build up. I think I'd think twice about walking if it was that bad. The weather really is playing silly buggers at the moment. I had my S/S jersey on this evening and had to pull the armwarmers down half way home to cool down.

Are you completely out of your skull? :o It's freezing outside. My tights aren't coming off until March at the very earliest. April for the arms. And even then I'll have spare clothing in my bag just in case the weather turns.

What's your mileage like compared to this time last year?

500+ for Jan is some going.

Pretty much zero last year, I think I managed 25 miles or so off road, we had plenty of snow in Jan and early Feb. that's when I started recording my training diary.

    Feb 2009 stats
    Mth Miles 487.35
    Time 31:45:00
    Avg Speed 15.62

I'm hoping to crack 600 miles YTD this weekend ie Sat. then spend Sunday drooling and rocking backwards and forwards in the dark

I did have my Merstons on - they are so warm that its only in weather like this that I can wear them without suffering heat exhaustion.

Good point. I know I'm about 130 miles up on January 2009's total with a week or so to go. Anyone else got comparisons with this time last year?

200 miles in the whole of last January, and 186 miles so far this January (and thats with only one weekend ride, which wasn't a long one).

I also only managed 536 miles by the end of March 2009 (thanks to breaking my rib and being off the bike for a month), so, barring accidents, I should be at least 350 miles ahead by then (though 3 weeks in Australia immediately afterwards won't help much, unless I can get hold of a bike over there).
  • When I registered i added my commute miles for the first few weeks together and added them in as my starting miles.
Is there anyway to delete this as I would like to put the actual journies in seperatly now so I can track my monthly mileage properly over the year, otherwise my January count is going to be artificially low

I know it doesnt make much difference in the grand scheme of things, but still

You can delete each of your recorded trips separately, but you can't delete the final record leaving you with none in the db. Total mileage is incremented / decremented as miles are added & deleted, but you can reset miles manually with the Update Total function to the right of the Add Miles.

If you want to be removed completely so that you can start again from scratch say so on here or via a PM and I'll do it tonight.

So if I reset miles manually to ZERO it will reset the starting mileage I entered?
I have journeys added on since.
    I'm just being pedantic.

You can easily do it yourself.

Add a zero miles journey, then delete all your other rides. Set your total miles to zero then start adding all rides since Jan 1st. Finally delete the zero miles record. That should get you to where you want to be.

    Jan 08 - 70 miles by now
    Jan 09 - 30 miles by now
Jan 10 - 86.5, despite all the ice and a snowboard hol

    Still rubbish though!
  • much higher this year as I've changed jobs, (for the better) and while the commute is very short, it's very nice and tranquil. I don't have to change, and the bike is secure if not dry.

I'm fairly sure I didn't get to ride the bike last jan, done 100 plus commute/town stuff on big green and a number of muddy MTB rides, plus one very icy road ride.

so yes a lot more this year. though I only count big greens milage as i'm lazy and like just reading off the computer.

    Hi,
Any chance of getting a median mileage per user as well as (or instead of) the average (which I assume is an arithmetic mean).
The high average is getting me down, and I'd like to think that a smallish number of high-milers are pulling it up. If there were more low-mile commuters on the table then the mean would be representative but at the moment the "average" rider is 38th out of 90.

Not whining, just interested... don't waste a lot of time on it :-)

    Cheers,
    W.

it'll work itself out as more stretch gets built into the gaps, and those people who logged on with 0 miles stay on 0 miles, and people stop bothering posting etc etc

Compared with 45th of 90? There's only 15 miles between them...

This time last year I'd achieved nothing - don't think I got back on the bike after xmas until end of January...and even then it wouldn't have been more than 60 or 90 for the whole month.

Did just shy of 25 miles today, almost all of it in heavy rain, just to keep the SC stats mileage ticking over. Have now reached the dizzy heights of 63rd.

Broke into 3 figures today, 1.42 ytd for me now  Found a nice 6 mile ride into work and 4 mile ride home.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
