Silly Commuter Stats

Of course, another devious but possibly useful column would be climb divided by mileage. Effectively gives the average gradient (ie a measure of how hard the miles people are riding are). Would be a very small number so might need to be multiplied by an appropriate factor.
e.g
Miles Feet Climb Gradient x100
Salsajake 1674 8838720 114770 0.013 1.30
Rolf F 1372 7244160 61000 0.008 0.84
Jimmypippa 3115 16447200 137060 0.008 0.83
jthef 2193 11579040 36864 0.003 0.32
bigease 3000 15840000 23980 0.002 0.15
So, now we can see that Salsajake is a bit of a climbing hero, Jimmypippa and I are sound runners up and jthef and bigease have a pretty easy life
Edit - what happened to wysiwyg? The table works perfectly well when writing the post but submitted looks rubbish!Faster than a tent.......0 -
That's a good one. Watch this space...
WYSIWYG works when you view your deliberations in the text edit box, but HTML shows multiple spaces as one space so all the formatting disappears.0 -
If I have a go at the height thing but get confused can I delete it? I'm estimating 105450ft so far, based on 1850ft per day it maight be more. If I manage to go out not commuting it's usually a hilly one, just ask whyamihere :?Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

salsajake wrote:jimmypippa wrote:#1 in height gain (and that is a conservative estimate)
looking at your profile, that commute must be about 250m height gain both ways (must be fun on the way home!) I guess your height is coming from non-commuting rides in the peaks too though. Then again, you have been almost twice as far as me this year, so you are probably right about it being conservative.
According to bikehike:Total Ascent: 244 m Total Descent: 96 m Total Ascent: 799 ft Total Descent: 315 ft
so just under 350m/round trip. Just over 1100 ft.
This is my commute home, so it can be a little less fun, especially with a headwind...
The last 50m are a right sod.0 -

Right it's only going to be approximate because I haven't got a garmin (yet) and I've changed y rout a couple of time but my usual route is 1997ft of climbing round trip. I'll work it out in a bit thewife wants a drink
Edit it's only 1886ft, bike hike took a detour in the middle. :roll:Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

What a great idea. It's in - height / miles * 10 to make it a sensible figure. Nice. I like that. Award yourself an extra 200 feet climb Rolf F.0 -

Not yet, but as soon as I can grip the gars I'll be on the bike. Frustratingly the legs are fine, it's just my ability to grip, through the shoulder injury, that's affected. At the current rate of recovery it could be at least two weeks   :twisted:pain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................

I have given up on August. I hate the weather - it's muggy and hot and I've been far too busy at work - what with an external audit, visits to depots and stores, etc.
But come September - I'm gonna go for the thousand miles!! :twisted:0 -

out of interest, what is your daily commute and how often do you do it (assume every day and a long way!) How much non-commute riding do you do, and is that with cycle clubs, racing, sportives etc? Just wondering what it takes to practically live on the bike as you appear to!0 -

45-50 miles a day commuting
no club rides ever just social rides with the SCRers, the odd sportive but not really as many as I should/could
I also ride pretty much every Sat/Sun or whenever we have a family social event, take this weekend i'm riding to the IOW via the New Forest - ace!Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
