Yes, but you aren't on here so you don't count!

I thought it would stop me competing and pushing myself.....

    You silly, silly man!

  • Just two more commutes and then the year is done for me. Just going to scrape 11k, got to get a 12k year in at some point.

  • How on earth do you get to above 10k? Great work. I'm happy with just getting over the 2500 mark after being under the knife twice in Q1. I'm hoping that Topaxci hasn't sandbagged a few recent miles and dump them in moving me to 50th place but I am prepared for another potential 100 or so if needs be ahead of the 1st Jan. Next year with all guns blazing, no more babies and no more surgery I'd hope to clear 6k on the commute mainly and if I decide to get on the audax wagon maybe quite a few more. Lets see.

I did some maths earlier in the thread that explains. It relates hours in saddle and average speed to annual mileage and probability of divorce.

I'm 35ish miles from my 7000 mile target so the maths has worked out pretty nicely as I only have three more commute days before the end of the year meaning I could do the bare minimum and still hit my arbitrary target.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Breached the 5600 mile mark by 0.27 miles tonight, the aim is for another 200 miles on the 9 more working days of this year I have left.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    I live 22 miles from where I work and don't own a car :D

I worked out the cost of a second car for me to drive to work at about £3k per year, the extra I spend on cycling over what I would if I only cycled at weekends is about £400 which means we can have an extra £216 per month larger mortgage. The bigger house won....

If I did have a car, I would have to leave for work just after the kids get up, so I wouldn't be to much use in the morning and the wife/kids and I all arrive home at about the same time in the evening (if I had a car I'd have half an hour to myself each night) - so I'm not really losing much family time either. My cycling to work for the past 5 years has really made quite a big difference to our finances - we wouldn't have been able to buy the house we have now if I drove to work.

Love cycling as well which helps.

35 - 50 miles a day, weekend rides + skyride leader rides and usually a week or two of touring

Stupidity (ignore all the waffle from the above posters. The answer is stupidity).

  • Finally breached 4K for the year. I know that's not really a lot, indeed it's 40% or so down on the past three years. However, a pesky broken elbow in April, followed by an operation to fix it and another operation a couple of weeks ago to remove the metalwork mean that I'm pretty pleased to manage what I have.

Hopefully, next year will have me back to my best.

Last commute of the year for me today. it's been a big and stupid year. Still, plenty more riding to do before the 31st though 8)
  • Well disappointed never got anywhere near my 10k mark this year I was hoping for only just got over 7k, think lack of motivation and the bad winter we had stopped me, so I will have to MTFU for next year and see if I can crack it
Sorry its not me it's the bike ;o)

Knocked off another 100 miles today on top of the 175 I've already done since Monday. 475 more and I make 12,000 miles. I'm absolutely knackered! My stats for the month will be bonkers!

    You nutter!

No no - it all makes sense. You see, I was chasing Charlie Potatoes for third spot in the 100km challenge - and because of all the 62 mile rides I was doing (because he pretended he wasn't going to do much in December but he's already got four in this month the scoundrel), I got past my target of 11,000 miles too early. And that put me in theoretical reach of 12,000 miles. And once I'd realised that, obviously I had to go for it....... See; completely sane!

would have hit 14k tonight but a visit from she who must not be named put paid to that, now do I repair it in the morning or take the BSO......decisions, decisions

should have taken the BSO, it has wider winter tyres and I might have stayed on after hitting a patch of black ice at 20; cuts bruises and my shoulder blade's now starting to hurt, not how I wanted to end the year

Well, I finally clocked over 3,500 km and 15,600m of climbing for the year. I can't see it being added to before the first weekend of the new year but I can but hope! I am pleased with that as an effort for my first year (well since Feb) back on the bike!
    RIP commute...

Bad luck - I had a slip at about 5mph today.

On the plus side - if I do 200miles every day until the end of the year, I could get into the top ten

    5500 miles for the year

Bad luck - hope no long term damage done. Like you say not the best way to end a good year.

Is the bike\kit alight? Usually end up with a broken piece of plastic and some extra holes in jackets\leg warmers.

9 days to go. 430 miles done in the last week, 320 to reach 12,000. I think I can do it! :D

thanks, appears nothing more serious than first noted; mudguards took a bit of a hit and need to be repaired and the new pedals also look very shiny where they scraped the road but Wiggle have taken them back and replaced them, as the bearings in one were shot after only a few weeks use.

Friday night saw the 14k tick over by 3 and I'm now sitting in our house in the South of Turkey (wondering where I can get a semi decent bike without paying over the odds.

Glad you and bike OK gbs but why do you keep telling us about your 14k still? You aren't in SCS this year. Are you trying to keep reminding us that Willyb isn't really first, I'm not really second and Carlos isn't really third because you have done 14k? I mean, you opted out so why not actually opt out and be a good boy and shutup til next year ;)

And you can shut up about being in Turkey too! All it does is blow and rain here

In the meantime, I'm glad to be in Sussex and having what I assumed would be some relatively flat, easy riding. Yet our Sunday club ride in W Yorkshire (which, to be fair, was a bit soft) covered 62 miles and 3513ft and the ride I just did in Sussex was 65 miles and 3360 feet. Not exactly a vast difference! In Yorkshire, it either goes up for a long time or down for a long time or is vaguely flat for a long time. In Sussex it is all up down all the time!

It's not that warm here, especially as the house has no real heating and it's 6C outside.

Sussex, flat.... I grew up there so know what you mean, they dont call it the rolling downs for nothing.

Merry Christmas to all on the stat board (official or not) and to all on BR

Only need to do 110 miles before the 1st Jan now...

Didn't want to make it easy, nearly froze to death during a puncture stop doing London to Brighton. Average temp -3 then smashed 30 seconds from my Ditchling pb that nearly broke me, a fitting way to bring in 10,000 miles perhaps?

What's that? Was that a northerner conceding that the south isn't actually as soft as all that? ;)
