  • I think Northern Ireland must be on the brink of disappearing under water any day now.
Torrential rain last night going home and again this morning coming in and its still coming down.

Still, its only water and I am getting the miles in

That's my inexorable rise up the table halted for another week then; a late change of plan requires me to work at home today; two laptops + some documentation to take in tomorrow and then I'm busy the rest of the week in a way that precludes getting many miles in. The feeble attempt to stay inside the Top 50 is floundering, and it's only March. :(

Let's hope that there are a sight more lightweights than meets the eye, and that they drop out leaving the path clear.

I am continually impressed by the "1000 miler club" people who are still going strong, I think I would have stopped at 1001 and then cried for a few days :D

On another note everyone seems to have done loads more miles in March than Feb, that's brilliant must be like 20% more month on month ...surely this cannot be sustained

Somewhat annoyingly, it looks as if I'm going to end up on 970-ish. Bumcakes.

That's in the realm of too much to make up in the time left, but small enough to be annoying, doh :x ...ah well maybe April huh

For me this is the first year of properly counting my miles, I'm amazed at how it mounts up.

about 4 years ago I distinctly remember celebrating having racked up 1000 miles on one of my bikes, at least that's what the computer said, that happened in September of that year!

Spot on. The only way is to covince the good lady that I can go out on a long ride tomorrow night because I'll not be riding over Easter.
...ah well maybe April huh

No chance. Between work and time off, I already know that that's not going to happen next month.

Can't you pack an extra 15 in today and tomorrow?

I intend to get at least one 1000 in but not sure when. It'll be 3 weeks commute and one week of other stuff. Up the commute (on not terrible days) to 30 miles so if I can do a reasonable number of those I should be in with a chance......

It's possible. I've just realised the club training night is tomorrow night. I may say I'm going to do that loop. I may eek out an extra lap tonight and possibly tomorrow morning to reduce tomorrow's burden.

5am? Er, are you mad? That's still yesterday. Also, too risky that the kids wil be woken by me leaving or before my return. That will leave me firmly in The Doghouse :) .

Anyhoo, back to that Addicted to Cycling thread...

It's difficult leaving the house earlier - have to make breakfast for the kids, get them ready for school etc.

The odds presently favour a longer ride tomorrow night, possibly with the Club, which would probably be better for sportive training, I suppose. Either way, there's only going to be a matter of miles in it.

Same here. Looking at my summary stats (not from SC Stats) from when I started saving them properly, it's been quite a journey. And to think I used to think of myself as a serious cyclist 5 years ago when I was biking 6 miles a day to work sometimes. :)

2007 was when the commute leapt from 6 to 21 miles...
    2005 - 38 trips, 303.73 mls
    2006 - 69 trips, 449.93
    2007 - 57 trips, 720.43
    2008 - 79 trips, 1717.81
    2009 - 197 trips, 4438.24
    2010 - 41 trips, 962.69

Well we are all rooting for you... you can't let us down this so close to the 1000 MTD!

In order to get my 800 MTD, I'm going to take the short commute home today and tomorrow and then jump straight on the race bike and TT out the remaining miles, as it's more time efficient.

CJCP, what you need to do is call in sick and then use the time to get the miles in.

I've given up on looking at absolute position; you just can't control how many people can join the list ahead of you (well actually, you can  ).

Keeping my eye on the 400 a month league instead: better to compete with people with roughly the same ambition.

That's a bu66er, blew it in January but reckon I should do 400 or so for the rest of the year.

What is this 400 a month league? I've just checked it and don't understand, no-one on there hit 400 for Jan or Feb. Can anyone advise?

It is miles, not metres is it?

:D Miles it is. Just a number to target. If your aiming higher then you could set up a new x per month league to get like- minded folk to compete against.

Just had a look at 2009's figures and there was only one recording of over 1,000 miles in a month (assuming Gazzaputt's two inputs were just accumulated miles to date)...Will3 with 1013 in November.

Thank you sir, I have to do it now though. Two kids, one wage and a crippling mortgage have given me an advantage. I'm brownosing for a promotion tho at the moment that would come with a company car, that would spoil my plans for next year.

I'm in the same boat really but I often get the chance to drive to things for work, and claim the mileage back, so that puts paid to certain days, other days I need to take files back with me etc and if they are too big or heavy for my pannier, then its train time (and I hate it)! That said, I couldn't do 5 days a week every week, it is 40 tough miles with a lot of height gain and I definitely need some recovery breaks.
