Does that include velodrome miles?
only if you install massive fans to give you head and tailwinds, build some hills on it and insert a few traffic lights, roundabouts and a guy on a moped to cut you up now and again0 -

Will has a point but surely a tailwind would be an advantage so it's absence negates the absence of a headwind"Impressive break"

I move to include TacX iMagic turbo miles then - I mean it adds resistance and is actually hard work especially if you stick on one of the Pyrenees or Alpine DVD's...

Yes, when are entries for this year closing?
It's depressing and demoralising being overtaken by someone who just pops up with 4 figures out of the blue. If we keep the entries open there's nothing to stop someone "winning" by posting all of their yearly mileage on December 31st"Impressive break"

Not quite true.
If you can manage an airspeed of 30-mph (nothing about rolling resistance etc) and you travel 10 miles North in calm air and 10 miles South it would take you 2/3 of an hour. If there was a 29-mph Northerly wind, you would then manage 1-mph Northwards, and take 10 hours for the first part....0 -
Poppycock
That's aircraft navigation not cycling. Besides if you're gonna go down this route then we'd have to discount miles in a group or any form of drafting."Impressive break"

I still reckon that you would use less effort travelling 20 miles in no wind than you would 10 miles with a tailwind and 10 miles with a headwind0 -
Fair enough, thanks for clearing that up CiB.
Not to mention thanks for providing the stats in the first place."Impressive break"

That would easily see me into the top 10!!0 -
My first geared road ride since November 26th 2009... and the first cycle since I cant remember when where I have had to deal with so much wind I completely didnt enjoy it and cut it short0

I brought this up last year... I'd vote for closing it earlier. Part of the fun is battling against someone day by day, month by month. Some chump turns up in November, posts backdated miles and ruins it all
But if everyone else is happy the way it is then fair enough.0 -
I agree. Anyone up for moving the closure for new entrants back by a month or so? I reckon September would do - by the time we get to the end of the summer it should be a race to the finish. Opinions welcome.0
-
I second closing it in September0
-
Or could just have it so that the main page is only those who have posted in each month as it happened - with a second page for everyone. Was a bit like that last year with the second page for those who hadn't posted in the last month.Faster than a tent.......0

I'd go for that.
This year the "posted in the last three weeks" think isn't quite so usefull and as we started in January, could you set some sort of filter for people who've been in it since then?0 -
Jash you're so ghey next you'll be wearing a d-lock holster ;-)
I'm not in favour of locking entries in sept however to keep it fair we could change the rules to say you must submit your miles for each month at the end of the month with no modifications afterwards therefore it would be obv. If some joker rolls up in nov/dec and adds 4000 miles each month.
The we should burn themRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -
ooohhhh it's close at the top, less than 1.5 miles covering the top 3 and about 100 for the top 5. I think it's time to pull out the extended commutepain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................

I'm the least qualified to comment having only joined you guys in the summer of last year but as a matter of principle I wouldn't want to discourage or exclude anyone from posting up their numbers whatever time of year it is.
Whether or not you / we decide if they "count" towards an end of year final "award" is another matter and can be at CiB's discretion (or based on a collective decision).
In order to have this formally ratified though we may need to create a subordinate addendum to paragraph 7 in rule 32 i) subsection 127 in the SCR rules of engagementSpecialized Roubaix Pro SL : Litespeed Titanium Siena : Specialized Allez : Specialized Tri Cross :
