If you keep at it with your "training" sessions, you'll soon be there, don't worry!
I'm not worried, tbh I love a bit of competition and winding people up.

I'm not in favour of locking entries in sept however to keep it fair we could change the rules to say you must submit your miles for each month at the end of the month with no modifications afterwards therefore it would be obv. If some joker rolls up in nov/dec and adds 4000 miles each month.
The we should burn them
As someone who eyed the stats enviously throughout the latter half of last year I like the idea of a sort of monthly sub-category so that people who haven't got a log of all of their miles for the year can join in yet be excluded from the year long "Statwar".
Also if we do stop anyone adding to the month then surely there should be a grace period until say the 5th of the following month."Impressive break"

Or you could max the amount of miles backposted per month to that month's average?FCN 4(?) (Commuter - Genesis Croix de Fer)

That's an interesting concept : as there is an equal view that the greater distance of potential commute could be a major demotivating factor to commute at all.
Or perhaps we could all move house to be within an exactly equidistant point from all our respective places of work irrespective of cost or family implications in order not to disturb the Stats force
or more to the point Rich's likelihood of winning ......Specialized Roubaix Pro SL : Litespeed Titanium Siena : Specialized Allez : Specialized Tri Cross :

As someone at the ass end of the table I just find it annoying that I keep dropping down places because of people jumping in ahead.
I dropped two places overnight but there isn't anyone with a previous position higher than where I was. I assume this is is because new people that have bumped me or am I reading it wrong.0 -

I like this idea, but conscious of the fact that we're only paying CiB minimum wage here. Don't want him to get above his station and start thinking he's indispensable
Therefore I'd vote for just cutting it off in September. Like CP said anyone after that can wait till next year. Would call for a poll but it's ITB's thread so it might be rigged0 -

Then it wouldn't really be SCommutingS. A way to deal with that is standardise the 'commute' classification. Then, Chris could set a filter that excludes the commuting bit so you can see how much non commuting people do. But that would fail to give due credit to people extending their commutes.Faster than a tent.......0 -
I'm sort of following this but having a busy day so can't contribute too much, but...
Excluding new joiners in March etc is not a good plan. Stats is clearly encouraging more people to do more miles, and if we lock it down to a clique of only those who are already in, it stagnates. The more the merrier I say. If someone joining knocks someone else down a few places that's a slice of bad luck really, but all it means is that our newbie has ridden more miles than he or she has. That's what Stats is about.
Despite that, locking out new joiners from October onwards suits as by that time of year it's settling down to a good fight and anyone chancing upon it by then can reasonably be expected to wait till the new year before joining in.
I like the monthly totals idea; that sounds good. Also quite fancy the locking out of prev month's miles beyond the first few days on the current month, with perhaps some exhortation that stats should be entered as soon as possible.

Whether or not you / we decide if they "count" towards an end of year final "award" is another matter and can be at CiB's discretion (or based on a collective decision).
In order to have this formally ratified though we may need to create a subordinate addendum to paragraph 7 in rule 32 i) subsection 127 in the SCR rules of engagement

Hell no to standardised commutes, it's the only chance I get to ride. Perhaps there should be a mini-league for men so whipped they have to take the shortest route home every night to help look after the kids?

Too right, that's me too, though its only 1.2 miles less than the other way, but crucially avoids the "Pass" and saves about 6-10 mins I think.0 -

Anyway; having missed out on commuting all last week today was the new dawn. The lights are back in the garage; overshoes, gloves, leggings & yellow coat are back in the wardrobe and today was the first shorts & mitts commute on the new bike - read 6 months old now - without all the additional gear. Lo, it was good. Very good.
It'll be a bit borderline getting home before dusk but there's a tailwind and the bike is flying. What can possibly go wrong...?0 -

Yup. Keep it simple, I say. It's a bit galling when newbies show up, but C'est la vie... if they've done the miles they've done the miles.
I like the ride classifications- what might be fun would be to look at the stats at the end of the year and see who's done the most "X" miles- commuting, weekend, fixed, winter etc. or who's ridden the most days, missed the fewest days, highest daily average... that sort of thing.
Mind you- it'd probably be the same people who appear in each category!!
Cheers,
