My saddle stem broke last week. The bits that hold the saddle to the stem went today. I ended up parting company with the bike on the A207 and falling flat on my ar.se while my bike kept going straight into a barrier at the side of the road.

    It hurt.

Are you okay? any damage to the bike other than the saddle?

I think I'm OK - the bike seemed OK but I'll give it a proper checkover later....I have a day off today so not riding it today.

not sure whether to be annoyed with WGWarburton (for stopping me getting into the top 50 by 1 sodding mile) or the 3 new people who joined since Tuesday, who may have had the same effect. But I don't know who they are, so my vengeance will be directed at you breadman.

Don't be annoyed, just go and ride round the block at lunchtime.

Take it easy Porgy - sounds like a nasty incident! Definitely worth giving the bike a thorough check up.

Anyone got a bike you can borrow for five minutes? I'm sure they'd understand the explanation

    Hi!

I have this vague notion of setting up a mini-league for those of us who are desperately striving to stay in the top-50!!

I should give you fair warning that I still have to ride home tonight, so if you want hang on to my place you'll need another 14-18 miles (depends on which station I use) on top.
I doubt I'll have a chance to get the bike out over the weekend, though (very rarely do), so if you can rack up a few miles then, you'll be clear ahead...

    Cheers,
    W.

Have you seen my current position, you'd have to take a month off for me to catch you :) My mileage this week has been particularly poor, in work tomorrow and laying some flooring on Sunday

I don't want to be in the staying in top 50 league, I need to be in the "hoping to move through the 40s and into the 30s but by the time I ever get there if I do there will be 200+ users and I'll actually be in the 70s/80s league"

i've been too scared to look at the table as this week has been pretty disastrous for me.

Bike's in the shop right now - my mechanic is trying to sort out a couple of niggling problems i've been having the past week or so. hopefully it'll be in tip top condition tomorrow for run down to whitstable or Margate.

Well, I admire your ambition but I have to say that with 150 miles separating half-a-dozen riders at the bottom of the 40s, I think quibbling about me nicking your spot by 1 mile is a bit petty! :-)

  • Today was my first commute since the 5th Feb, the new work bike arrived yesterday. Over a month without commuting has seen me drop 30 places although even with the commute it looks like I'd have slipped down the ratings a fair few places.
Taking the car to work may be quicker sometimes but seeing other cyclists and the ever tightening sensation of my trousers coupled with the cost of pertoleum fluid, give me cycling any day.
I'm getting positvely excied about the ride home later tonight and the prsopect of reclaiiming some lost ground in the stas front (hopefully)

That would drive me insane. How was the commute home?

I was getting irritable to say the least!. Riding home really helps to throw off any work related stresses and as I'm sat on my backside these days it is a physically invigorating. start & finish to the working day As for last nights ride home.. a few miles of unlit country lanes between towns with only my thoughts for company ...priceless. :D
