Morning chaps (and chapesses) : Mr Garmin agrees with the cycle computer 100% so Mr Bikely is absolutely useless :)

    You're safe for a bit Will ... :):):)

I've found before that online mapping can be sketchy. For example,.when it tells you that your 1st day camping touring is going to be 85 miles and it turns out to be 101

And my day just keeps getting better.

My Editor on our Italian magazine has just asked me if I'd consider going over to Italy for 3 or 4 days to "road test" a cycling holiday company and write it up when I get back.

Is she insane : it's taken me all of a nano second to say yes :D:D

As myself and Attica discovered most online mapping sites tend to play down the smaller but none the less significant hills, what should have been a reasonably rolling Bristol to Salisbury had a few more sharp ups than expected :?

Nope - but I've just pinched the place back from you :D

You'll have my head pretty soon and I won't be able to keep up. Not doing the miles that I would like to. I'd like to get in 200 a week but will be lucky to get 150.

What's that "Cervelo Ride" in your stats?

I'm not so sure I will be able to get rid of you so soon... a spoke went this morning, and I'm still waiting for my new surly frame... it looks like I need to patch up the old commuter to keep me going a while longer. I hope the wonky rear wheel will get me home with breaking further.

I also have to drive on Friday and I've got a week away coming up before the end of the month.

'Cervelo ride' is just the category name I use for general riding on my Cervelo - usually out training or on a club run etc. Last Sunday's ride was an extended club run.

This is a common affliction within the Cervelo (pronounced Sir-Vaylo) Owners' Club. One does not simply ride a bike; they ride their Cervelo*.

Nic_77 - It makes me feel so much better that you own a Cervelo and you ride in a club - you should be miles ahead of me :D:D:D

Hey CJ - I'd be happy with a Ribble, don't mind which :lol::lol:

Having said that, on Sunday having taken off my saddle bag off, my bike felt quiet nippy.

The elite racer dude at my work said to me yesterday that his Ribble winter frame is far more comfortable than his BMC

Might have something to do with the rest of the bikes spec. his winter bike is spotlessly clean and a higher spec. than my best bike

Each to their own. I ride a BMC (Racemaster) to work & back and for all the niggly probs that it's had - mainly dealer-induced - it's supremely comfortable. I did chuck the OEM saddle away and replaced it with my support of choice. That helps.

ITB - been looking at the Ribble Sportive Racing or the Grand Fondo, when I finally get the "go ahead" from the boss I'll be asking for more advice from you guys, still like the CR1 though but that's around the £1800 mark with 105 as opposed to the Ribble's with Ultegra being £1300 or so.

Me too...given the rate people are going at the moment it'll be amusing seeing the amount of people that battle the elements to clock 2,000 mile Decembers to cling onto their places :)

  • Cracking shorter ride home last night : I thought I'd do a "fatigued" hill session so went up the hill over Kingsdown which is a long drag with 2 short but tough sections, then back down the hill at 5 Ways lights to go back up Box Hill and into Corsham and then climbed up Bowden Hill to home.

BUT back on a longer home run tonight so expect to see the numbers look a little healthier by the morning

Once a petrolhead, always a petrolhead. Bikes are a close second. Best bike would be - but isn't - this:

    fordRS1800.jpg
Or a Lotus Cortina, or a Sunbeam Lotus in black. Drool.

I discovered yesterday that BMC stands for Bicycle Manufacturing Company. That's neat that - does what it says on the crossbar.

No commuting this week due to many factors, so a steady drop down the table is the inevitable outcome. Should have the BMC back tonight tho so a possible climb of 1 place is on the cards tomorrow.

realisable dreams hopefully those, Looking at what sort of things you like how about upping the Ante to a Fulvia HF, Alfa GTA, Delta Integrale or Sport Quattro? OK, so a huge range in price there and almost all of them unaffordable for a decent one! Then again Mk1 Escorts are bringing silly money at the moment, when I was growing up they were the equivalent of souped up corsas, but I can see the attraction now to be fair. Especially with a BDA engine dropped in...

Not really up on cars, but I remember the Escort Mexico looked very smart when I was a nipper (not sure what it was like on performance) and the good old Audi Quattro, when I passed my test the Sierra Cosworth was the business! Never driven any of them

It's the call of a mis-spent youth isn't it, the bark of a BDA on full chat approaching from somewhere over the hills as you sit at a control, waiting for your minute. Lovely. Not as lovely as being at the helm tho - only ever drove a couple but not at competitive speeds . A bare-shell Escort, billies at each corner and a BDA to propel it. I'd take a 20 place drop on the Stats table for that. Anyone...??

can't help you on that front, but have just been invited to hoon Jaguars around the test track at Gaydon in a couple of weeks. I understand they encourage you to get an XKR up to about 150mph there. And its on my rest day, so no miles lost!
