Plus I changed from 48x18 to 48x17 and found it quite a bit harder to get going, but perhaps it was a slight headwind and not having my usual rest day last week.:P

Interesting, I'm on 48:18 or 71inches and you've gone to 75. Is the difference between the two that noticeable? At least you be quicker on flat!

I think I must just be tired, I mean, how much harder could a tooth less be to push in reality?
I'll assess its difficulty over the full week before I decide!

The 18t sprocket was failing to engage all the time, and I whacked both knees of the bars a consequence on fridays commute so thought it wise to change it before I got stranded with a scooter bike 15miles from home.

OK, a bit late for the 1000 mile parties (that was sooo last month) but yippee all the same. Must have taken me til some time in June to manage that last year......

Gives me some breathing space anyway leaving the ding dong battle between Jimmypappa and Andy83 at 913 and 913.5 miles a safe (for now) distance behind me! Have lost number 29 to LondonLivvy though that might be partly to do with some new entries straight in at +1000 miles.

Quite a bit, IMHO. Look at it this way, if you're aiming to keep the same cadence you've just increased your "normal" speed by over 5%. I think drag increases with the cube of speed (most of it being wind resistance), so that's a pretty significant change.

    Cheers,
    W.

I was convincing myself it was just in my head so you just ruined it for me and i'll order a new 18t freewheel now off CRC

I think drag (force) increases with the square of speed.
Power is what increates with the cube of speed (power = force x veloclty)

  • Bit of an odd weekend : got into a proper tizz on Sunday morning. Looked out of the window and the sun was shining so I thought shorts and a short sleeved top and promptly got on the Litespeed and tootled off down the road.

Got 100 yards and after retrieving my reproductive organs that had already frozen solid and dropped off I turned, went home and put on longs, a thermal jacket a 2nd pair of inners and a 2nd pair of overshoes. I should be living somewhere much warmer ....

Also ditched the Litespeed which I'd forgotten to put a speedometer on the night before, and switched to the Roubaix.

So I'm now 10 minutes behind the clock to meet up with the club in Chippenham so instead of my leisurely warm up I'm belting flat out over 8 miles to get to the meet in time. Legs and lungs burning I just make it - brilliant - but nobody else is here?? It slowly dawns on me that I've gone to the wrong meeting point.

If it wasn't for the fact that I know I'm a genius I could easily be mistaken for a complete kn*bhead!!

67 miles on Sat and 10 on Sun cut short due to a snapped chain.

Think i might have to get a cheep knock off bike i can leave at work to keep me topped up each day.

If i hit 400 miles for this month i will be a happy bunny

I'd have thought better of you ITB

I reckon a rule should be added that updates should be entered daily/following day at the latest, keeps everyone on their toes.

By the way, do I get bonus miles for 3 x up Leckwith Hill yesterday - that 21 miles ride felt like at least 50!

Oh I will update daily just not this month, I want to sneak up on my unsuspecting victims and remove their SC Stats scalps for my trophy room

Point of order: I've ridden today without the benefit of a trip counter, since the magnet decided to part company with the holder on the spoke. Should I put in the best guess (not all measurable on G maps since some was on off roady bits) or just do the rides again with a trip counter and add them then?

Your bike is broken. I wouldn't ride it. A week should do it.

I'm assuming it's not your normal route. I'd say just stick in your best guess and if you ride again and it's longer, stick in the extra miles.

Just work it out using Bikely or similar. Can do road and off road quite easily using auto follow road function (or not!!)

I might as well wave to you in passing, as I tend to only get commuting time on my bike.

Still I should be in the top ten for commutes over 1000'.
