and then we get another CLOSE overtake

    http://youtu.be/WtQC0M05Cv8?hd=1

complaint sent off to Notts County Council.... scared the hell out of me when it happened...

It's always worse on NSL roads as the traffic is going much faster - we were doing about 22mph at the time.

Had a response back from Notts CC, they've contacted the sub-contractor who have viewed the video and will be interviewing the driver ASAP.

It's odd reading the replies, as it clearly shows that there are issues with this sub-contractor. I'm going to be interested to see how this goes.

Hit by a car - Result

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpXNUFr6 ... r_embedded
I was hit by a car back in February, the driver was in court today, charged with driving without due care and attention.

The driver was found guilty, given 3 penalty points onto his licence, fine and court costs totalling £465.

I was surprised that the driver did not plead guilty originally, considering the video evidence. The defence tried to imply that I had hit out at the car, causing me to fall, and the driver claimed that no contact was made.

I think the defence was trying to imply that I go around looking for trouble since I have a helmet camera, but the magistrates would not allow them to question me about my other videos.

I don't think anything would have happened without the video evidence - I had 2 witness details, but neither attended court, so it was his word against mine. I don't think the driver would have been found guilty without the camera footage.

I have included additional footage after the collision, to prove that I did not chase after the car shouting "c*nt c*nt f*cking c*nt"...

Result, still, I'm confused, why on earth do I never have as many issues as some of these people on similar roads?! He has a very busy youtube account of late!

Anyway, to some of my cam footage, only its not my commute, I can dream..

This video has had a lot of comments, I can't help but laugh every time I see it,
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Am I the only one who has REALLY boring commutes when I'm wearing my helmet cam, and ALWAYS nearly get knocked off when I forget the ruddy thing or it's out of battery!?

I've got some footage kicking around of a scottish bloke yelling at me in traffic somewhere...

Ha, I know what you mean. Thankfully my commutes have been pretty quiet recently, but I did hit a pedestrian a few weekends ago when I just nipped out to the shop without my helmet/cam. Typical

It seems I tempted fate with my prior post!
Rear-ended a motorist who decided to cut me up and apply his brakes this morning.
But it's fine, he's got a bike shaped dent in his rear bumper,
my bike is fine AND I GOT IT ON CAMERA :o

What suprised me most is whilst I lay sprawled on the tarmac,
the car drove off, and the motorists behind me just looked on.

Don't try this at home! Rural-ish, edge of plymouth, stupid downhill, dartmoor to sea level in about a minute and a bit...

Only ridable in the summer, once it starts to get a bit moist and leafy its too slippery to ride down safely... Until it snows...

I've had another reply back from Leicestershire Police about that woman on the phone (Dog Walking company)

They'd initially decided her driving was not sufficiently poor to prosecute, so I sent back an email pointing out that they'd missed the fundamental problem:

The fact that her poor driving was due to her being on the phone

and enclosed a still that clearly showed her with a phone held to her head while she pulled out on to me.

The email this morning has told me that they've reopened the file and are making further enquiries.

    Good stuff.

I was out on a test ride of the new CX at the weekend. Pulled up at a roundabout and a kid appeared next to me in a Saxo, phone in hand, texting away, with the window down.

I said "put the phone down"
He said "f*ck off you tw*t, I'll run you over".

Unfortunately no cam, so no 'making threats to kill' report to the police.

That takes me back - I used to ride like that down there when I was 13 on my Muddy Fox Courier. Not a care in the world and cajones the size of melons...

Coming from Roborough through Plymbridge to Plympton (and vice versa) I have fond memories: hittiing a fallen tree at 20mph, clipping a deer, falling on ice repeatedly, and the scariest by far - a laden truck sliding down the hill on ice straight towards me.

    Take it easy down there....

PS I used that route all year round.

:D I'm quite happy to wuss out, i've developed a sense of self-preservation in my old age... :D Plymouth when it snowed last winter was a lot of fun to ride around though..!

    My first youtube vid! Woo!

Sorry for the swearing. Must cut that out.

Sent Fourways an email this afternoon. It was the 2nd pass right at the end which appeared to be deliberate, going by his hand gestures.

What do you think? I probably shouldn't have bothered overtaking when he slowed down, eh? Better a crap driver in front of you than behind.

I'm quite often cynical about helmet cam "incidents" but both of these incidents were terrible. When he drew close and alongside you towards the end of the vid, that was dangerous driving.

Me too (even of my own!) because sometimes you sort of know what's coming and make it look a bit worse (I admit to sometimes doing this). But this genuinely caught me by surprise how close he was both times.

The first pass I was aware of a bus overtaking, and I was about to check my shoulder to overtake a parked car anyway, but no reason he should be that close.

Second one was blatently deliberate seeing as he didn't even need to overtake as there was a slower line of cars in front.

I've sent an email to the company, if I don't get a proper response I'll contact local police.

This one is now closed with the driver getting a roasting from his employers and Notts CC deciding to target him with more Inspectors on his bus for a while

I think it helped that the Transport Manager for the Council is a cycle commuter

Close pass by fast car in rain. I was scared...
  • Had a altercation with a 4x4 last week, he did a strange maneuver and I went into the side of him, tbh I could have probably made the gap on the left but my tyres were both locked so instead of risking falling I went into the side of the door, the passenger started giving me dirty looks as if I was in the wrong

Almost went to overtake this taxi, then thought because of the next traffic island it might be pushing it a bit. Glad I aborted the manoeuvre.
Also a good example of how traffic calming can cause conflict between road users.
