lol no bike yet but I do a great impression of a nodder :P waiting for work to sort my cyclescheme out. I know the bike I want and just thought I would rather by cheap kit on eBay and things than pay Edinburgh Coop prices for them which seem between 30-40% more expensive.

    Met helmet - EBC £50 - eBay = £30
    Toptip Pun - EBC £5 - eBay = £3.60 for two
    Sealskin All Weather - EBC £35 eBay = £15.00

Can't wait to become a nodder.

Sorry to laugh but when you shouted "You daft tart" I did pee meself

It was one of my finer moments.

Look at some of the other vids where I've pointed out some great driving - there are some very good drivers out there and the number of considerate overtakes you simply don't notice as they don't intrude on your thoughts is countless.

One of the best things about Winter cycling (apart from those frosty mornings when the world feels like it's holding its breath) is watching the sunrise. You just don't get the chance to enjoy this when driving; riding along and seeing the sky change from the deepest black to blues, reds, oranges and the clouds radiating out... priceless.

Yep, most people are fine, a few are excellent and even fewer are bad.

Just yesterday a HGV hung right back for about a mile, which is good because he also holds back the rest of the traffic for me. Once I reached a little layby I pulled in to let him past, waved my thanks and got a toot of the horn in return. Then later on a car did a similar thing, hung back for ages, and eventually went past nice and wide. It's really not all bad. If you can find a nice quiet route it gets even better. I ride down roads that would be slower than the main routes in a car, because they're narrow and twisty, but on a bike it makes no difference (20mph is safe, as it is on the main roads, but in the car it's 30 vs 60) and you get a peaceful, picturesque commute, chasing deer and pheasants down the lanes while the sun comes up and burns off the early morning haze over the fields.....mmmmm!

I love it when cars hang back for me, always make sure I give them a thumbs up as they pass. Makes the world alright again... till the next car cuts you up

To the poster on the last page, I also scared myself after watching a few video's, but once you're on the road, you'll see it's not so bad after all.

    Hi all.
Interesting thread. To provide balance has anyone got any footage of bad commuting riders?! I'm sure as others have said there are good car drivers out there and I'm sure people will recognise that there is some bad riding out there and this may provide an opportunity for people to learn from other peoples mistakes.

I'd get the ball rolling but sadly I'm a perfect cyclist who does not have a headcam!

    So anyone feeling brave??

Yep, that's worth a watch for new riders.
Basically don't go up the left of stationary vehicles, don't jump red lights, don't be a d*ck.

I can't really help as I don't see (m)any other cyclists on my commute. Usual maximum is two going the opposite way to me.

I guess I was wondering if anyone would be brave enough to post videos of themselves doing silly things!!

From what I've seen, most of the cam users on here are pretty sensible. I'd certainly say I am, I'm not perfect, but I know that being hit or coming off the bike will hurt, so I try to avoid it, and I always ride legally.

If I did something silly I'd probably be brave enough to hold my hands up and share it, if it stops another cyclist making the same mistake then it's worth it.

I don't know if it qualifies as silly but it did start a debate about undertaking:

I watched loads of CycleGaz's silly cyclist last night and as a new cyclist it taught me a few things what to do and what not to do, some of them where quite shocking to watch.

I was more shocked at the amount of cyclists in London, Leeds has nothing like that amount I am lucky to see/gorp at a couple of bikes per commute.

Nothing though beats the "You daft tart" shout, I still chuckle to myself on that one.

Lol, glad everyone was ok. Was watching some YouTube clips and it just seemed that it was all abit 1 sided. Thanks for being so honest, makes a change from all the ranting about 'idiot' drivers!!

Well, this is a cycling forum. Cyclists are going to post about incidents in which their lives were put in danger. This is always due to bad drivers, and never due to bad cyclists.

Do you think a few "cyclist going through a red light" clips will provide "balance" to those clips in which drivers, either through ignorance or malice, have assaulted, abused or threatened the lives of forum users?

Cyclists killed/seriously injured by bad drivers every year: approx 1000
People killed/seriously injured by bad cyclists every year: approx 0.3

    Not much "balance" there.

Thanks for the reply. I asked the question originally as I was browsing the clips and it seemed that there were a lot of clips showing what people felt to be bad car driving, and I felt that there must be footage of bad cyclists too. Someone further up the thread kindly pointed out the 'silly cyclists' YouTube channel and someone else their own headcam film which was very kind also.
I felt the balance in showing poor cycling would help other people learn from mistakes and make their own riding safer.
Thank you for the statistics. Can I ask is the 1000 serious injury/deaths caused by 'bad driving' or from collisions with cars? If the former have you got stats for road deaths caused by bad cycling to compare?

After yesterdays near miss i may have NO option but to invest in a cam.

I almost got wiped out in a near head on collision with a van coming towards me down a dark single track country lane. Had i NOT done some cyclocross thru a ditch i'd be typing this from the purley gates.

The rider wasnt your fault. He didnt give way and put himself in the dangerzone. I had the same thing happen a few years back, she shot out thinking "cyclelane to pull into", forgetting cyclists might be riding down it. I JUST managed to ride around to her right and miss her, proper wheel lock too - must have been instinctual control as I have no idea how I missed her. I shouted back to "look first" and get her shouting "lycra lout at me". :?

Wasnt even in lycra that day. Normal clothes.

Well, he also has to take most of the responsibility for it, the dumbass. In retrospect, it might have been better to go to the right of him, but I don't know what was on your right quarter. I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. Snap decisions are not always the best ones, and he forced you into it.
