Not getting too concerned over it.. Guy was okay & all (he fell over onto the pavement.)

Only real difference I could have made was by going considerably slower. I had seen him but expected him to stop at the junction.

I think I did start to head to the right of him (not sure about the uploaded video, but the full version in slow shows a minor change of direction to the right) but changed my mind as that road is an offset crossing that is part of a cycle route - they head straight across & so I guessed he'd do this, rather than the sharp left that was his downfall.

Ahhh... Monday, Monday... what a terrible day to be stuck in a car

bloody marvellous if you're on a bike and overtaking 2 miles of traffic. Damn cars slowed me right down... diabolical liberty if you ask me :)

I'm still thinking of posting a short clip of the same trip in (about a couple of miles earlier) where the sun is shining over a hill, the fields are mist laden, and farmyard has this huge pile of manure steaming gently in the freezing morning air...

Beautiful bright sun, blazing clear blue skies, glorious mist laden fields tinged with a golden glow and a steaming pile of sh*t.

You city lot - you don't know what you're missing.

Its quite sophisticated, far more functionality than an individual might really need. i can see how it would be useful in a driver or race training school or if you did regular track days... then its a bargain at $50

Wonder how hard it would be to create a simpler fixed format version...

Speak to Cyclegaz on youtube, his friend iirc made his own coded version to work with the Garmins. That one took speed and RPMs off the cranks (so you can see a drop off/increase in acceleration more easily)

    This'un? http://sites.google.com/site/verymadmart/cyclecam

Takes a while to get going but easy enough once sorted (probably a few more editing steps than your trial-ware)

Not a commute as such but worth seeing:

not often you see such a clear double rainbow. The fact that I was now cold WET and knackered from the wind did not escape me.

I liked it. Couldn't believe how a rain drop smacked the lens RIGHT as I saw the rainbow!

you should forward the vid on to both companies - plus, it's nice to let the drivers know when they're past, so they can pull back in promptly:

Cheers for that, useful plan. It's not often I get overtaken by HGVs as most of my commuting is in rush-hour traffic in town.

As for sending it to the companies, I'm having a think about making a formal complaint to Brighton and Hove Buses about what happened, partly because I was riding in today when the same numbered bus at the same time (can be assumed it was the same driver?) did a similar thing to the cyclist just in front of me. I'll check out the footage when I get home and see what it looks like.

I must come past you in the opposite direction on Lewes road for a bit (green Kona with orange rims)...

Having a look at that video of the bus shows a silver estate car, in the outside lane, with its wheels well over the white line, the bus driver would of had to move to move over to not hit them (not making excuses though, the driver should of slowed down).

What camera are you using btw?
  • I'll keep an eye out for you, sounds like a distinctive bike! Must admit by the time I'm riding up the Lewes road it's usually a touch after 9am, though... (the joys of working in IT). You're right, hadn't spotted that - it could well be that the bus driver was moving over to accommodate the traffic shifting because he was committed by that point. Ultimately he should never have been committed to the manoeuvre in the first place, though... I think part of the thing that makes substandard cycle lanes so dangerous is that overtakes no longer go through the thought process associated with "overtake", they drivers just carry straight on regardless.

Camera is a Contour Roam. Very happy with it so far, seems well-built and well-designed, isn't a pain to use with the computer and it's got some very usable footage from my rides home in the dark, too.
  • I had two close overtakes yesterday, but what really got me about them was that neither of them did the driver any good at all. Felt a bit of a mug waiting behind the cars in the queue too, but after recent experience I don't like filtering past drivers I think are foolish unless I'm sure I can get properly clear of them...

It is sometimes good practice to have the bad driver away and in front as you've noted. Its what many of us have learned to do.

I was referring to the fast forward bits. I was watching it with no sound and it looked just like Knight Rider comedy sped up bits. I even had the music going in my head.
Good speed all the same. Did she comment on it?

She did say something as I first passed her but I couldn't make out what was said. The turbo boost sections were down to Sony Vegas, my new toy for videos.

Did look very well done. Amazing how good home kit is now.
My Dad had a Ferguson Videostar top loading VHS that you could carry the tape section on a shoulder strap with a camera attached that was the size of a couple of house bricks. it was impossible to stand up straight with all of that weight and you could get less than half an hour of really poor quality filming off it in good light conditions.
