Stayed well clear of this car tonight. At least the SMIDSY/SMIDL line would have been true :xI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Had a bloody close call today just outside Luton today. A sodding large dump truck overtook me way too close at a very fast speed. I was doing over 50k/ph and he just screamed past me.
Sadly my Muvi decided to fly off while i hit a bump at over 50k/ph and as i was in my own TT mode today there was no way i was going back to look for it0 -
Oh my God... YouTube have now also removed the new version of that video which had the number plate blurred out.
I'm actually incensed.0 -
I'm thinking of buying the Muvi Pro , has anyone else got one ?

Those idiots are obviously flagging you. Give it to someone else and get them to upload it. See what happens!0 -
And now the video has re-appeared... This is insane.
I did email them to ask why they removed the second (blurred) version, maybe it worked.0 -
I must say I'm loving all the support in the comments on that video. Thanks everyone, it's much appreciated.
That Scouse bloke really is a bit of a tit.0 -

considering the amount of "copyrighted" material on youtube it is a bit strange that they are picking on you??0 -
I can totally understand that as a company they have to take privacy very seriously because I do a lot of the same stuff at work and I know exactly how stringent you need to be with these things. In fact we all had a talk from a media lawyer yesterday and Privacy in the media was the first subject she covered.
If people are posting material that could legitimately be breaching somebody's privacy then they (YT) absolutely have to react to that, of course they do.
The question is whether the person had a reasonable expectation of privacy in that situation and furthermore whether they were clearly identifiable in the video.
I say that no, there is no reasonable expectation of privacy pulling out of a junction and furthermore that they were not easily identifiable. YouTube obviously think otherwise and it's their site and their rules so there's very little I can do but abide by them for now.
I'm trying to decide about what to do in future...
On the one hand it might be better to carry on posting videos where the reg is visible and mentioned in the title and then only re-post (ie blur) the ones where a complaint is made... But on the other hand it might be better to make sure that none of my videos can ever be removed again so that they stay up from the beginning (and the person's complaint is rejected when they try to get it removed) and then all the comments stay up on the original video and don't have to begin again after the re-post.0 -
Maybe just leave the reg out of the title??0
-
I thought of that but after the thing yesterday (with the media solicitor woman) it seems fairly clear that the law wouldn't draw much distinction between the two - either someone is identifiable or they're not.
If one is OK then both are ok and, similarly, if one is a step too far then both probably are.
Incidentally it wouldn't be me that was prosecuted, it would be YouTube.0 -

Terrible traffic on my way into Docklands.

This mornings close encounter with silver van man. I'm just in the area of the zig-zags when SVM appears in the clip. I can hear him approaching and ease off the pedals as I can forsee what is captured on the camera.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Do you think it's worth reporting either of these two incidents?

The second one was a ******* disgrace.
I've found myself in that situation a few times, if I can't get primary in good time ( and I mean the lorry would have to be 50m behind me) then I've either stopped or jumped onto the pavement, depending on the situation.

Had i a little bit of fun today on the commute in. Saw an A2B Metro electric bicycle up front, those things can do 20mph just on the motor. add in pedalling and you can easily do 25mph.
So i set a challenge to get past him.

One thing to add on number 2. How aware were you of the truck before moving out? You probably could have avoided it by being in position sooner (assuming the driver was paying attention) or waiting behind the parked car till he'd gone by.
Admittedly, its easy to point out things that could be done different after the fact. I know that section of road and it's really not nice with the s-bend and all the parked cars. It's still a cr@ppy bit of driving.0 -
Yeah, you're right, there are lots of things I could probably have done to improve the situation.
I first passed the truck at Earlsfield station (about half a mile back from where the video begins) and he overtook me again about a minute later. This first overtake wasn't as bad as the one on the video but it was still bad enough that I should have properly taken note of his driving style.
Then he got stuck in traffic at lights and I passed him again.
Like you, I know that S-bendy part of Garratt Lane well as I cycle it every day and drivers usually get quite impatient there despite having roundabouts at both ends and not being terribly long, so once again I could have been more alert.
I did become aware that the truck had caught up with me but I wasn't sure he was going to overtake, I still thought he might wait as the roundabout was only 15-20 seconds away.
So yep, I probably should have been further out in the middle of the road.
If you look at the video, though, I would add that he (the truck) has no oncoming traffic so he could have actually given me more room if he had wanted to.
Obviously it still wouldn't have been an ideal move because frankly he shouldn't have overtaken at all, but I'm just trying to make the point that even once he'd committed himself to the overtake, there was still a better way for him to do it.0 -

I had to work that day. While everybody was basking in the sunshine, I was locked up in an office in Canary Wharf. Booohooo, poor little me! At least I got a fantastic ride out of it! Another reason to love cycling!0
