Actually, thinking about it further, I wonder whether they ever show the video to the driver... That quote implies that they only send a letter for a first offence but where a video exists I wonder if they mention it in the letter at all.

I can't see the Met sending people YouTube links otherwise it would probably have been ridiculed in the press by now so I guess they probably don't, but it's a shame. Getting a letter in the post is good but getting a letter and being shown a video of the incident is even better.

Answering my own question, I emailed RoadSafeLondon to ask about the video thing and got this response:
Thank you for raising this, you may not be aware but the ROADSAFE system is in the development stages where we are ironing out many issues before we launch it for the whole of London.

This was not something we had thought of and is a very valid point. We have discussed the issue and from now on when we have been given evidence via a 'you tube' or other public domain link (If we think the informants details could not be found from it) we will indeed be including the link details if we send out a letter to the driver.

Our intention is predominately to raise driver awareness / behaviour, however if the video / evidence is compelling enough it will be forwarded to the relevant department with a view to prosecution.
This will entail the informant being contacted and being asked to provide a statement (Along with a certified copy of the video)

Unfortunately in this case because the systems are not yet in place we are not in a position to look at passing this on for further enquiries, but very soon we will be and this driver would most definitely be looked at closely for prosecution.
The vehicle keeper was in this case sent a letter warning re the driving manner.

Please don't feel we are ignoring the information, it is only because we are in the development stage it has not been progressed. Please send in any more such incidents via the ROADSAFE system.

Couple of April Fools just have to overtake. Ho hum! Reported to Roadsafe for the sheer pointlessness of it.

I also worked out how to join avi's VirtualDub when they have different sample rates.

Why did you suddenly veer to the right?

Which one? I wasn't aware of any veering.

The second incident, it`s not so much a veer on reflection but you move over to the middle of the two lanes.

Oh! There's a filter lane to the left ( you can almost make it out but I was too busy looking over my shoulder). I take it quite wide to discourage the left hook. I wasn't really doing anything erratic (although my head is a bit wobbly at the pothole-y bit which looks kind of wierd). What you don't see is approaching the previous lights which turned red and I shoulder checked and stopped in primary behind the saloon. The driver would have seen it because he was right behind me. He must have known I wasn't going to be a gutter hugging wobbler

There's a lot of examples of bad driving on here, so thought I'd post a good example. This guy was the passenger in a Barnard Marcus car at the lights at Oval Station this morning. He wanted to get out of the car, and rather than just swinging the passenger door open, he gingerly opens it a fraction and has a peek to see whether anything's coming up the inside.

    Good on him 8-)

I prefer to use the door mirrors even when getting out to the pavement, not been a victim of the door yet and don't want to be and don't want to be the culprit either.

Fail!! You rode right past the Morpeth Arms, pop in there at 6ish on a friday and meet some of the other London commuters for a bevvy or 5. In the clip it was at 1:44, white building on the corner.

My latest hollywood blockbuster  Sat at some TLs with the fragrances of Bart Spices drifting across the river and the motorbike opposite me intends to turn right so does the blue car to his left. Who got it wrong?

Other than the angle of the camera, it needs to be rotated into a more vertical positiion. Is it mounted on your helmet? A class 6 card might improve the footage, all my clips of recent times are captured on a class 6 card. A bit blowy on the riverbank and you're riding on the pedestrian side of the cyclepath as I do too, makes sense as we drive on the same side when we hit the roads.

I am actually on the cyclists side of the cyclepath with the occassional overtake onto the pedestrian side to get past the pedestrians. For some reason in Exeter the cycle paths change sides with alarming regularity so pedestrians can be forgiven for being on the wrong side in some places.

At the moment the camera is mounted to the handlebars, I can't quite get the angle right on the helmet at the moment. it was actually quite a blowy day in Exeter today dispite the sunny weather, also the river bank is like that most of the time. I will look into a better memory card though at the moment I am using the one that came as standard.

If you're talking about the kind of wobbling effect you can see then it won't be helped by a better memory card so save your money. It's because of the way the Muvi (and even more so with the cheap clones) record data from the sensor one line at a time.

The best you can do is try to minimise vibration.

My clone is OK with the wobbly effect, hopefully so will the second purchase.

Either mount the Muvi on your helmet or live with the wobble (like i do) ;)

I would have taken the lane there personally, still no excuse to pass that closely, it seemed like he was cutting across you a bit.

A short clip from my rear mounted Muvi camera in the centre of Bath yesterday. Should have uploaded it yesterday but VM were playing silly buggers with my U/L speeds.

This is the custom designed, handmade bracket.

Do you stick an elastic band around the camera and the mount or do you find that the clip is enough to keep it on?

I've used your photo as an inspiration to replace the front reflector on the bike with my MD80, but I'm afraid of it bouncing off the next time I hit one of London's finest potholes. Up to now I've had it perched on the top of my helmet, but it does look a bit daft up there. (Still at least the car drivers notice it)

    Cheers

Hadn't thought of a red royal mail laccy band but I use one of the velcro strips that come with the camera. The clip might be enough but don't fancy losing something off the back of my bike I can't see.
