    @CP and Sewinman...

A locked cabinet would not stop me drinking your scotch, but rest assured I'd appreciate it.

And she'd probably buy you some more too... :)

Ok I should have said that more clearly as many, many posts being confused.

Roleplay gaming (yes I am prepared for people to call me a geek if they want to)

    Bah just one geeky hobby

    my hobbies include:-
    table top gaming (WH40k)
MMORPG's (online games) SWG and LOTRO
othe PC Videogames, oblivion, Dawn of war, Dirt, old elite games, X-series games etc etc
Collecting Star wars lego (have over 100 sets) this picture of just the boxes is 4 years out of date: DSC03450.jpg
building furniture out of wood. (most of house is full of furniture Ive designed and built myself.
Collecting allsorts with a starwars logo on it
Building a large scenery board for a train set (3 of them actuall all connected up)
rereading the same few books, mainly Tolkien, occaisionally harry potter or homer
Planning the easter holiday including a trip to see "real" steam engines (thomas has a lot to answer for in our house)
Typing overly long posts \ essays on internet forums
daydreaming about creating the ultimate mmorpg
thinking about relearning programming for the above (one day I will take the next step and do something about it)
daydreaming about a triumphant return to national championship rallying, doesnt sound geeky? no one outside of the sport realises just how geeky rally competitors actually are, seriously we memorise the number of teeth on crown wheels and pinions and can talk for hours on the subject. Ive had long conversations on the theory of exhaust design...

    Yep Im officially a geek

Oddly enough there was a time between leaving school and getting married when I had no geeky hobbies at all in fact my hobbies then were limited to cars and girls...

That is one sh*t load of lego, coool. For some reason I can just imagine an entire backgarden after a snowfall being made up to be a replica of the Imperial invasion of Hoth.

wouldn't lock it unless I had kids... The rage at finding someone put unfiltered water into one of my bottles would be mighty.

I even buy monmoth for work and now really enjoy having coffee at work rather than the rancid filth the peas.. err... other people drink

I am pretty sure it was behaviour like this that made Australia in the first place

Oi! I still haven't forgiven you for this tendon thing you know... ;)

And instant coffee is vile. Monmoth is nice, I also quite like Illy, but since I got a nespresso machine last xmas I've gone all lazy... it's so damn easy and yields decent results.

I'm lucky at work, we've got 5 of those Jura machines where you put beans in the top and get really good coffee out the other end, as well as a portuguese guy who's really seriously into coffee who's job includes keeping them stocked and running...:)

NOOOOOOOOO step away from the devil!

Problem is... it's pretty good coffee. For real. I too hated the thought of it and dismissed it out of hand until my mum - also a coffee snob who has a hand-pumped chrome machine at home - made me one. I can't fault it, in my limited knowledge of coffee. And there are a dozen different varieties so you can find your favourites (mine are the purple ones and the green ones).

I'm sure it's a bad thing, and is a horribly obvious example of over-packaged, environment-killing nonsense as well as obscene laziness (along the lines of, say, pre-grated parmesan or pre-diced carrots), but it's so easy and so tasty...

Back to the question. I spend altogether too long on the computer, mainly looking at forums, sports websites and MSN/gmail chat. I watch telly as the default activity, and spend as much time as I can in bed, sleeping or otherwise.

I cycle, every now and again, but all other sports and fitness activities have fallen by the wayside. I try and go to nice places when I can - since me and the missus got together 6 months ago we've had weekend breaks to Devon, Sussex, Wales and New York, and they're brilliant for fun and for having something to look forward to (next one *may* be Moscow, but the cost/weather might put paid to that for now).

I also read, but not as much as I'd like to or indeed should (as my job requires a lot of reading and inevitably I don't do it all). I like computer games, but almost exclusively with company - I get bored and have a creeping sense of "OMG I'm wasting my life" when I play them on my own.

In honesty, I'm not sure I have many other specific hobbies. I live to eat and drink, certainly, and most of my social life revolves around one or the other. I see friends a lot, and my gf even more often, which means I appreciate alone time for relaxation more than if I was on my own more often.

    Hmmm....

lots of time out with the kids - parks, painting, cycling - anything outdoors or creative/fun (ballet and pony trekking are big at the moment!)
    Walk the dawg
    Build/repair bikes in my shed
Train for Triathlon - run and swim
    Clean the house!
    Repair the car
    Read
Get angry at VR TV programmes
    Rowing (when I have time)
    DIY on the house

Fix everything that I did not fix properly in the first place!

Exactly, it's good, and it's just so incredibly easy! I totally looked down my nose at them and the other capsule systems, until my brother bought me one, now I have one in Essex and one in London while the gaggia and grinder slowly rot in the cupboard...

I like the mauve ones, the green ones and the gold-ish ones. Oh and the decaf. It's handy!

Yeah I wish the gf, who is basically mainlining nespresso at the moment, had some decaf ones - she doesn't keep booze in her house, which I find staggering (I have 20-odd bottles of wine, even more bottles of random spirits, and a fridge salad drawer* full of beer at all times - I might run out, god help me), but instead only buys it in when it's going to be drunk. So as an alternative liquid evening treat, I guess a quality decaf is the only choice.

*I'm allergic to lettuce so the space would o9nly go to waste otherwise.
  • Selfridges sell them... that's pretty near you... get her some for valentine's - they're red!

And yes, they are great as an alternative to booze, especially with my current plan of only drinking at weekends.

So Monday night I was fine, tuesday night had a whisky, wednesday night got quite pissed and opened a decent bottle of red last night.

    Epic fail.

    Work,

look after the little man (11 months aww)

watch TV- I LOVE CSI vegas and NY watch Miami just so I can moan about it and I'm addicted to motor sport of any kind the mrs doesn't know how i can watch some of it although she was impressed that one of the aussie V8 supercar drivers was on the aussie striclty come dancing.

Do weights thrice a week I want to see what I look like with a healthy BMI!
I'm trying to start canoeing again but I can only manage training once a week i'll be starting that up again next month.

I try to avoid all housework/DIY it's good for the economy if I get someone else to do it.

I'm trying to work out how to make good espresso but it's like watching porn, I see how it's done but my equipment is inadequate.

The rest of the time I'm trying to decide what to buy next and what to sell to pay for it.

Jaysus, 8 pages! I'm beginning to think that I stopped looking at the forum far to early last night :-)

For me when I'm not cycling I'm normally at work during the week.

Weekends are normally spent trying to recover some sense of normality in the madhouse that I call home :-)
Spending time with the kids takes up quite a bit of time, my fault for having 5!
Having said that they are all very helpful in their own ways, even down to the youngest (9 months) helping me empty the dishwasher - albeit by pulling all the cutlery out and using it to whack the door!

    Other activities include:
Watching TV - Most crime shows (pretty much anything by Jerry Bruckheimer)
    Tinkering about with PCs
    Tinkering about with bikes
Tea & coffee tart - I only recently discovered the joys of "proper" coffee and try to avoid instant stuff when possible now!
    Planning bike rides
    Spending time on this forum

On the subject of coffee@work I'm quite enjoying sampling various companies coffee offerings! Some have cr4p machines that turn out rubbish whilst others have ones that use fresh beans! In fact the place I'm working with at the moment is one of the best but the latte option has broken :-(

Sell me your Gaggia then Lit. I have an excellent Italian deli over the road who'll grind beans for me.

Nespresso is IMHO foul and irritating. We have one in the office and only 1 director uses it. It's also constantly being descaled and that appears to involve sending away for some sort of kit. Ridiculous, especially as we are round the corner from Borough Market and coffee loveliness.

I can't believe the number of posts in the space of a day! You guys spend far too much time on this website... :P Some of the things mentioned I can't help feel are just social things and not hobbies such as drinking (unless it is actually tasting and learning the intricacies of said drink, how it was made, what makes it different - but each to their own).

OK along with cycling, my following hobbies are:

Watching Sci-Fi: Star Trek, Star Gate, Heroes and other Sci-fi programmes. Reading Sci-Fi books like Isaac Asimov's collection.

Reading up on Science Fact - Theories on space, time, light, black holes etc and to a lesser extent genetics.

Films: Any genre any type. I was a film student, I love the moving image (done right).

Going to the theatre watching plays (I really have a passion for this, always wanted to be an actor) I absolutely love musical expression whether played through an instrument or dancing (professional not the stuff in the clubs) as a side mention my Aunt has an MBE in relation to this Brenda

Going to Museums, mostly historical museums, I also adore seeing ancient ruins. I also like art galleries but am not a fan of the fancy stuff like a garbage bag tipped on the floor the rubbish spread around - photo taken and someone telling me that THAT is art...

Reading up on historical events, cultures and people/person - I.e. Rome and Ceasar Augustus. Also reading up on Mythology.

Internet - for a time I web-mastered my own website. - This also includes building my PC.

Reading books normally girly books.. written by women, about a female character. Such as: My Lover's Lover

    Cooking

OH and I collect the following comic books:

    Marvel titles:
    Mighty Avengers
    New Avengers
    Captain America
Fantastic Four – Millar’s run only
    Astonishing X-men
    X-Factor
    X-Force
    Wolverine Origins
    Thor
    Nova
    Guardians of the Galaxy

    DC titles:
    Teen Titans
    Titans
    Green Lantern
    Green Lantern Corps
    JLA
    JSA

    Darkhorse:
Starwars: Knights of the Old Republic
    Starwars: Legacy
    Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Note: I don't really see playing computer games as my hobby but I do play computer games - especially Sci-fi Fantasy, and Role playing games

Drinking is a hobbie! I just choose to try different teas, coffees and ciders!
I've seen how tea is blended on "How it's made" (I usually watch this on Discovery every weekend over breakfast on the +1 channel!) and have a good selection of loose leaf teas and various different tea-pots at home!

I've also had a tour around the Western's cider factory to see (and smell  ) how that's made, not to mention a few samples at the end

I think that by understanding what goes into your tipple of choice you have a better understanding of just what you are tasting!

I have yet to indulge myself fully in tasting different blends of coffee, but have my eyes set on a sampler box at Whittards!

What's wrong with the ese pods that go into a regular machine?

I've been sufficiently impressed by them to buy a delonghi for work (it's preferable to trudging off to shEat/Starfcuks/Costalot/Cafe Drearo). I just have to keep myself down to two shots a days. Really nice crema, and that's from someone who never used to touch espresso.
