When you're not cycling what do you do?

I'm off work, not cycling and mostly stuck in my flat.

Today I woke up around 8.00am by 8.30am I was on my X-box. I thought to myself "I need some food". Looked at my watch and it was 4.45pm  I hadn't moved or done anything from 8.30am, sure I completed Fallout 3, saved the Capital Wasteland (Washington DC) and died a hero but this cannot be the extent of my life, surely?

So I searched my soul for other activities and hobbies...

SO, I ask, when you're not cycling whether to work or a social ride what are your other hobbies.
Food Chain number = 4

    Well

    I run "Hotel linsen"
    I mother my children
    I read books
    I walk in the countryside
    I talk to my friends
I sometimes knit (well I have done in the past)
    I sometimes do puzzles
    I daydream
    I plan adventures

Thank you DDD - a nice thought-provoking question
I waste too much of my time doing things I don't want to do. Like tidying up!
Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome

    That is AWESOME work.

Top tip, though: when the gf gets home, best not to describe your day in those terms. In fact, may be best not to say that the x-box had been switched on.

Tell her your tooth hurt really badly all day.

Otherwise you might find your nuts hurting all night.

    Climb
    Climb
    Buy climbing gear
    Climb
    Learn Chinese cooking
    Climb
    Climb
    Learn Tai Chi
Watch DVDs (usually other people climbing)
    Visit other countries and climb

Think I may be in some kind of a rut
  • I windsurf (badly), and play sax(es). Both can end up as quite pricey activities. A bit like cycling really. Must try tiddliwinks next...

A week off work typically involves a few big rides, so the rest of the days are usually recovery. This involves (in order of importance, greatest first):

    Sleep (lots)
    More sleep
    Just 5 minutes more sleep?
    Food shopping/eating/more food shopping
    Planning next ride
    Bike cleaning and tweaking
    Watching telly and dvd's
Catching up on books and mags
    Maybe housework (doesn't happen often!)

I have an unhealthy interest in current affairs. I also sleep a lot.

I do a lot of things less often than I'd like, including:
    - rowing, preferably in the dark, in heavy rain and wind
    - going to the gym to avoid having a cyclist's upper body that is completely useless for rowing
    - skiing; you can still occasionally ski in Scotland, for example this weekend in heavy rain (but not the dark)
    - the odd walk
    - the odd hike (i.e. an odd walk requiring something other than what I happen to be wearing)
    - the odd "rent-a-kayak and nearly get one's self killed due to inexperience and changeable weather" trip
    - diving

I think that putting the bike in the car and driving somewhere so remote that it makes you almost think that you aren't jealous of the Alps after all, then cycling around a bit, should count, because its so distinct from commuting.

Finally, I sleep a lot, did I mention that?

DDD - YOU ARE A GROWN MAN SO STEP AWAY FROM THE GAMES CONSOLE AND READ A BOOK.

Hold on, hold on. Everyone drop everything and just stay right there. This is very important.

There are new episodes of House? Where can I obtain them?

  • Oh. My. God.

This is almost as good as finding out I can get back on the bike. Almost.
  • Hmmmmm... I don't really care for things about war, especially american things about war.

Watch The Wire first, then Generation Kill. Both fine fine pieces of work.

    Trust me 8)

Edit: and it's not really about war... just set in a war, sort of.
  • The Wire... I haven't heard of that either!

Yeah, well you were sniffy about BSG too. Just goes to show. You play too many video games and do too much knitting.

Get out there and watch some TV, girl!

Yes, I was, wasn't I? Mostly because it's tripe. However, I do watch CSI, which I'm sure is just as bad...

Yeah yeah yeah. If I had a tenner for everyone who's said that, watched it and then said OMG and gone out to buy the boxed set, I'd have paid for the discs I've bought.
